      Comparing yourself to others will often lead to disappointment, instead just be open to learning and remember to pat yourself on the back any time you're able to make something :) all it takes is persistence and patience.

      Haha... I'm over here just making my first game... a "Maze" game that is pretty dumb, but trying to learn... I've been watching too many videos and not actually doing anything...so one step at a time, even though this game I'm creating is "dumb"

    Hate to say it, but the fact that every game was a polished gem really made this video go from good to excellent. If there were 50 of these videos on this channel I would be settling in for an evening.

    OK I finished the gameplay with 6 hours to go, so now I'm going to implement a few decorative features I saw in other games.
    Me:
    OK it's been 6 months and I'm almost done making the title screen. I can't wait to start working on the game! (I can, and I don't wanna)

    • @Xer0neX

      I've been avoiding it so badly that I added intro splash screens with the FBI "winners don't use drugs", and the EPA "Please recycle" like arcade machines used to have lol

    • @mdo
      @mdo 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Starting with the art and polishing it before even having a single gameplay element implemented is what most new game devs get bit by. I know how it is because I used to do the same. Though I quickly discovered I suck at art so started to focus on gameplay instead. Which was good because that also meant I started finishing games (albeit ugly-looking ones)

    What a great video! This was a joy to watch. I think the format is incredibly smart because it breaks up the video into multiple parts and each developer had a reasonable amount of time to make a semi polished experience. This is partly thanks to the provided art assets, sounds, and music. The death animations and sound effects on the third game will cracking me up!

    Super impressive results! The level of polish is so high for a jam, I could see any of these games going the distance with some more time and effort if people wanted to. I also really appreciate the way people explained the tools they were using, as someone who's still pretty fresh to Godot it was super helpful for learning. On that note, are any of these projects available to peek inside? I'd love to see the full implementations of things like the state machine (rip interfaces) and on-rails animations.

    It's rare to see games like these in Godot... and they took only 44h.
    The difference is pretty visible when you have ppl who have experience with gamedev using Godot vs hobbyists... nothing against the hobbyists, but it's great to see what Godot is capable of.
