- This MatterHackers How-To will teach you how to make three substances out of ABS and acetone that can help you get the most out of 3D printing with ABS: Juice, Glue, and Slurry.

You should update the weights on the webpage. Based on the recipe on the webpage, my glue was looking more like a juice so I added some more abs. The weights listed here are higher than those on the webpage
I use ABS juice for everything including nylon and TPU. Sometimes they stick a bit too well. 1 cup acetone and about 10 or so 1" sticks of ABS filament. Just eyeball it. It doesn't need to be exact. Let it sit overnight and shake well for that milky appearance. Wipe where you want to print and there you go.
at 0:37 shouldnt it be "abs juice" instead of abs glue? you said that twice:)
I was just about to comment about that -_____- Now I need to adjust my concoction
I came here just to say that I thought I was inhaling too much acetone and ABS, despite taking all precautions, and its effecting my brain so much that I kept hearing "Glue" no matter how many times I rewinded and realized that it was an error on the video's part and my brain is fine. 😅
15 ml or 50 ml of acetone? Can't understand your words. Thanks ! :-)
ABS juice will also work to adhere PLA to a heated print bed (as well as ABS)
Can you create juice from PLA and acetone?
@@backyardbeesllc5691 no, PLA will not dissolve in acetone
Works with HIPS too. 👍
Can you use abs plastic? As in from sheets?
Can I use abs juice, glue or slurry to a surface repair? Can I apply them to 3d printed parts by using a brush? What it ll be the result?
Is it possible to make a mold out of the slurry mixture? And how long before its fully "cured" (acetone vaporized away)?
no its not, i tried it, the reason is the outer cured shell doesn't let the acetone inside out (or slows it to an extreme slow speed).
You can to up to max 3mm (1/8 inch) but then you better wait 2 day for drying. Dont use heat it will make bubbles.
smaller thickness up to 1,5mm need ~1 day curing time
Brim + Hairspray works also ;)
how long can i store this abs juice/slurry/glue
in airtight glas jar, cheapest option is used food jars.
better is to use a jar equvalent to the amout you want to mix (to make it practically full, so less air space is left - less acetone vaporises)
Can ABS/ASA juice be used in a spray bottle?
Using ABS Juice on my Ender 3 V2's glass bed achieved fantastic bond strength for the first layer, but made it almost impossible top remove the printed part. I won't be using it again!
Yeah, parts stick pretty good but need to thin out the mix if it sticks too well. It should look like skim milk.
Thanks a Lot
I just make slurry.. If I need it thinner, add acetone.
And it's faster than adding plastic, smart :)
Nice
Putting Acetone in a coffee mug is a disaster waiting to happen.
I also suggest adding protective gear to the list of tools for making ABS/Acetone mixture. The most important one would be goggles.
why? what will happen?
as "protection" nitrile gloves (the thick ones) prevent abs slury to glue to your hands. (not dangerous but anoying since it can be washed of easily)
Probably ruins the coffee flavor. and the goo sticks to teeth.
can pla be use to make a slurry or paste as well.... i am presumig it can be but thought i would ask before i waste pla filament
No, you can't use PLA - acetone is not a solvent of PLA.
use tetrahydrofuran instead of acetone
RamsesTheFourth ....thank you
What to do if print won't release from glass bed? To thick when applied?
how much ABS filament to use for each ?
Unless it’s edited he literally says it in the video.
Can MEK be used in place of acetone?
You do not want to be using MEK in place of acetone. The smell alone is enough to take your head off and the effect on skin is worse.
Have 2 questions, the first one - wich acetone?, the nails acetone works?, anyone try to make this juice or glue with black abs??
I've never tried the nails acetone. It's less expensive to buy the industrial cans of it at the home improvement store. I use whatever color of scraps I have available, black included. But if you're trying to patch or glue two pieces together you might want to use a matching color. I've never wasted time measuring and weighing. From my experience, eyeballing it for the right consistency works fine -- like an expert chef does without measuring cups or spoons. Ha.
You need to use pure acetone. Acetone nail polish remover won't always work. You have to look at the ingredients list to check if there are any additives. Some nail polish removers are advertised as 100% pure acetone, and those would probably work. Other brands that dilute the acetone with water will likely perform very poorly. I have used black ABS before and it works just fine.
yes all colors work , but some need more and some need less acetone(+/- ~15-20%). If you dont have a scale start with 50-50 and then add more acetone or more plastic to increase/decrease the viscosity
What’s the measurements for 1.75 filament
5 grams worth for juice, 10 for glue, 20 for slurry .
@@BeatlesCuber Thanks that makes sense as same as in video as the mass or weight would be the same just the length would be different as smaller diameter. For length 3 mm filament has an area 2.94 times larger (by my calculations) than 1.75 mm filament so multiplying by about 3 should suffice. Also a 1kg spool of 3 mm filament is 110 m and a 1 kg spool of 1.75 mm filament is 330 m according to the web which backs up my calc.
@@dalek-dan-1 it was in the video, but you're welcome.
@@BeatlesCuber I know but to me it was not obvious that measuring by weight will always be the same amount regardless of the filament diameter, it is now in hindsight ;-) As the easiest way to measure is by length.
@@dalek-dan-1 well I hope you have a good day.
Hi... natural ABS or color ABS
works with colour too
Can you use black filament
yes
you say 2 time abs glue when your measuring the filament
What's 'taffy'?
candy =D
cyzam Oh, he means 'toffee'?
@@StrathpefferJunction no.. Toffee is something completely different than taffy.
IDK, but I could go for some Coffee!
Hi, is dangerous the fumes or stick to your hand?
Thanks
Hello, I have some experience with acetone and can say while it isn’t healthy to breath in, it is not toxic if it occurs. It’s also flammable, including the liquid itself, so just keep it and work with it in a well ventilated area. Hope this helps 😁
Why don't just weigh the acetone instead of measuring the volume?
Who uses fucking 3 mm
People who need a lot of glue or slurry!
The olden days there was.
