Hua Chenyu is one of the new generation of Chinese artists who is changing the face of music in that country. crandf the monk didn’t rap. He just chanted a Buddhism prayer mantra repeatedly in the background for Hua Chenyu’s rap part. It sounds totally different from the main rap vocal part, but adds texture and meaning to the song because the song is about the Monkey King Wukong fighting against the Heavenly Gods and Buddha limitation. So the rap of Hua Chenyu is representing Wukong fighting against the quiet but powerful Buddhism chant. The song is telling a whole story of the character Sun Wukong - the Great Monkey King and Sage who declared himself equal to Heaven.

The guy in white robes behind is doing a type of scripture chant （六字真言）using a very cool technique called 'HuMai' (呼唛）or Tuvan throat singing/Kargyaa/undertone singing (too many different names) that is used by the Mongolians/Siberians. It is a technique that can produce at least 2 different sounds at the same time. It is very difficult to learn and is generally passed down through the generations by the Mongolians/Siberians/Tibetans.
The part that the guy in white sang is totally different from the rap that Hua sang, although it truly has 2 different vocal layers in this song. If you guys here the recorded-on-stage mp3 version, you will clearly know the differences.

I’ve been thinking about Hua Chenyu actually and thought that you guys should react to him and I’m glad you guys are. He’s an amazing artist, he’s a genius. The company he belongs to originally wanted him to do something mainstream, but eventually he became known for his own style and so his company let him do what he wanted. You should definitely check out his other performance like ‘Nanping Evening Bell’. He rearranges all his performances on shows himself.
He started with flute lessons, then piano lessons, attended one of the most prestigious school of music, learnt the singing techniques but rejected them as they didn't fit for conveying his emotions. The Superboy team recruited him in this prestigious school, I think it's Wuhan Music school (but not sure of the name), Hua didn't just show up randomly at Superboy, he was sought after ...
He learnt the flute when he was around 7, but wasn't too impressed with music yet. He then learnt the piano and only started truly loving music when he realised he could transfer his emotions into his composition around the age if 15. All these info was from the horse's mouth, said in interviews. So, he studied music since 7, and picked up other instruments - guitar, drums, bass, other wind instruments - along the way. He disagree with the "genius" label as he said "I started music earlier than most artists".

Here he learned a lot, the most useful thing he learned was how Pentatonic scale, but also finding that many of the techniques suited English songs more than Chinese ones.

Singer 2018 and Singer 2020 is the best way to explore him. It’s the biggest singing show in China (for famous singers), in China there are multiple shows for famous singers which is so fun. It’s great, I had so much fun watching it. I started watching because Jessie J was on this show and then I saw Hua Chenyu, I became a fan of him ever since.
Hua is simply the best. He is so incredibly talented. He plays piano and flute, writes a lot of his songs, raps perfectly and he becomes the Song. His vocals are incredibly unique and that’s why he comes across the way he does. His duality of Mando/Pop and Classic Chinese singing creates such sublime sounds. My favourite song is Jackdaw Boys which covers all octave ranges of his voice. Literally he is Pure Gold. He does a lot of covers. Two that come to mind are Sia’s Chandelier and Gotye’s Someone that I used to Know are incredible. He puts his own mark on them and makes them his own. Welcome to Mars! 😊 Yes , there are many excellent voices on Singer, but Hua Chenyu is on a different level alltogether. Traditional mainstream cpop against innovative HCY-style. Mesmerizing and highly addictive. Fireworks on stage. Qi Tian and I dont care from 2018 are both his own works, hes a composer. The others are adapted and rearranged covers because such were the rules. In Singer 2020 he performs his own, except one. I hope you will react more to him. And actually it doesnt matter much which ones you chose cause they are all mindblowing. Personally i prefer his concert performances, but ofcourse the audio is often better in Singer. I'm afraid you were misinformed. There was "the other guy" who was in the white robe, invited by Hua Hua to chant in a "humei" style for rap part. There was also live background singers for harmonising, all part of Hua Hua's composition. If you listen to the CD version of this song, the monk's guttural sounds are significant throughout the song.

I want to confirm they do have backvocalist (almost on every performance on singer people use the backvocalists, I think there are 4 of them) and it’s not really allowed to use any effect through the entire song, I think he had a backtrack as well. He didn’t have any effects on his voice. You are only allowed to do that as/with an intro. HE ALSO DOES ROCK! So he can do a distorted voice, one of the main reasons I became a fan of him is because he has rock songs as well 😂 he’s an all-rounder Hua Chenyu is one of the most famous singers in China due to his uniqueness. The crowd votes for the best performance of the night/round/week. Because it’s one episode each week, all in one night so yeah.

The double rap you're hearing is Hua's prerecorded voice so he kinda rap with himself to give that part of the song more power but there's bo effect on his voice. He has that naturally raspy-rock voice when he raps and he developed that through a lot of practice. The guy behind him was singing a buddist mantra in a very low voice that fits the context of the song! There were another small group of backup vocals behind the musicians at the left of the stage, while the guy wearing all white standing behind Hua was singing the very low deep voices that could be heard at the end of the song with the piano. The low deep vocal singing is a special vocal technique of Mongolian called Hu Mai 呼麦. Hua did recorded his own voice for backing vocals in octave and harmonies for this performance, in fact he usually would prerecord his own voice for backing vocals to give certain sound effects when mixed tightly together with his live singing, and for his rap parts as well. Btw, this song is composed and arranged by Hua Chenyu, for a movie indeed.

I'm suprised that you guys react to Hua Chenyu but I just wanna say that he is the best singer that I've known. Not only by the way he sing but also his life and attitude. Hua ChenYu (華晨宇) is not just a singer/rapper, he also write his own songs. He is a professoinal musician. In another music competition show, he rewrote an old chinese song called "girls of Ali Mountain". I recommend that song. And about the background singers, in China on this kind of music competition shows, there is huge orchestra behind the singer with at least 4 background singers. It is like to have your own concert, and for Hua ChenYu who is used to have his own concert, he knows how to write and work with other professional musicians. If you watch one of his concert, even the Chinese/Korean group, EXO, was in the audiens. They loved the performance.

I’ve been thinking about Hua Chenyu actually and thought that you guys should react to him and I’m glad you guys are. He’s an amazing artist, he’s a genius. The company he belongs to originally wanted him to do something mainstream, but eventually he became known for his own style and so his company let him do what he wanted. You should definitely check out his other performance like ‘Nanping Evening Bell’. He rearranges all his performances on shows himself.
He started with flute lessons, then piano lessons, attended one of the most prestigious school of music, learnt the singing techniques but rejected them as they didn't fit for conveying his emotions. The Superboy team recruited him in this prestigious school, I think it's Wuhan Music school (but not sure of the name), Hua didn't just show up randomly at Superboy, he was sought after ...
He learnt the flute when he was around 7, but wasn't too impressed with music yet. He then learnt the piano and only started truly loving music when he realised he could transfer his emotions into his composition around the age if 15. All these info was from the horse's mouth, said in interviews. So, he studied music since 7, and picked up other instruments - guitar, drums, bass, other wind instruments - along the way. He disagree with the "genius" label as he said "I started music earlier than most artists".
@@pattypetronillemartin2608 Exactly...He studied pop music, vocal performance at Wuhan Conservatory of Music where he also was vocalist of a college rock band, after that he study in Berklee College of Music where he learned singing and rapping skills. Here he learned a lot, the most useful thing he learned was how Pentatonic scale, but also finding that many of the techniques suited English songs more than Chinese ones.
Hua Chenyu went to Wuhan Conservatory of Music, one of 9 major conservatories in China, dedicated to the cultivation on professional musicians and performing artists.

Yes he also studied stage performance, and that’s how Hua knows how to occupy the whole stage, hand movements even when he doesn’t rap, interaction with the audience. Also designs his stage performances with lighting and all, a very very schooled musician with music genius in his genes.

Infos:He's 30yo and debuted as a singer after partecipating on a chinese singing competition at the age of 23, called SUPERBOY. He made a huge clamoir with his lyricless song and was defined as "crazy, alien..." for his music style and personality. He dwelves in ALL types of music from chinese opera to rap, rock.... (You'll see this when checking his singer 2018 performances). He plays different kind of instruments from piano, flute, drums... He's a really wise, detailed, perfectionist person and you can see it from his judging on competitions as THE NEXT or THE COMING ONE. He's also incredibly knowledgeable about music and perfect pitch.

Singer 2018 and Singer 2020 is the best way to explore him. It’s the biggest singing show in China (for famous singers), in China there are multiple shows for famous singers which is so fun. It’s great, I had so much fun watching it.

I met Hua by Dimash, all the artists that I have discovered by Dimash are amazing, Hua, Lara, Laure, Igor, Tengri, Lola Astanova and many more.
Hua is simply the best. He is so incredibly talented. He plays piano and flute, writes a lot of his songs, raps perfectly and he becomes the Song. His vocals are incredibly unique and that’s why he comes across the way he does. His duality of Mando/Pop and Classic Chinese singing creates such sublime sounds. My favourite song is Jackdaw Boys which covers all octave ranges of his voice. Literally he is Pure Gold.
He does a lot of covers. Two that come to mind are Sia’s Chandelier and Gotye’s Someone that I used to Know are incredible. He puts his own mark on them and makes them his own. Loved your reaction to Hua, you will become Believers in his world for sure.

Welcome to Mars! 😊 Yes , there are many excellent voices on Singer, but Hua Chenyu is on a different level alltogether. Traditional mainstream cpop against innovative HCY-style. Mesmerizing and highly addictive. Fireworks on stage. Qi Tian and I dont care from 2018 are both his own works, hes a composer. The others are adapted and rearranged covers because such were the rules. In Singer 2020 he performs his own, except one. I hope you will react more to him. And actually it doesnt matter much which ones you chose cause they are all mindblowing. Personally i prefer his concert performances, but ofcourse the audio is often better in Singer. I'm afraid you were misinformed. There was "the other guy" who was in the white robe, invited by Hua Hua to chant in a "humei" style for rap part. There was also live background singers for harmonising, all part of Hua Hua's composition. If you listen to the CD version of this song, the monk's guttural sounds are significant throughout the song.
@@nocturnalowl5867 Yes, I'm sorry, you're right:) I didn't believe,that guy double dub rap, the guy raps aswell but in a lower tone and slightly slower than Chenyu.I acknowledge the "mantra" -like background,it needs to sound good,the background singers as well.:)But Hua didn't need help with the rap:)

@@tiabell21 The monk gave Hua's rap a unique quality and that was Hua Hua's intention. The layered vocals in some of Hua Hua's songs are his own decision. To say he doesn't need help for rap parts is not necessary because Hua Hua himself wanted it to sound that way and that in no way meant he needed help in rapping. Cheers 🙏🙏

I want to confirm they do have backvocalist (almost on every performance on singer people use the backvocalists, I think there are 4 of them) and it’s not really allowed to use any effect through the entire song, I think he had a backtrack as well. He didn’t have any effects on his voice. You are only allowed to do that as/with an intro. HE ALSO DOES ROCK! So he can do a distorted voice, one of the main reasons I became a fan of him is because he has rock songs as well 😂 he’s an all-rounder

The double rap you're hearing is Hua's prerecorded voice so he kinda rap with himself to give that part of the song more power but there's bo effect on his voice.
He has that naturally raspy-rock voice when he raps and he developed that through a lot of practice.
The guy behind him was singing a buddist mantra in a very low voice that fits the context of the song!

There were another small group of backup vocals behind the musicians at the left of the stage, while the guy wearing all white standing behind Hua was singing the very low deep voices that could be heard at the end of the song with the piano. The low deep vocal singing is a special vocal technique of Mongolian called Hu Mai 呼麦.
Hua did recorded his own voice for backing vocals in octave and harmonies for this performance, in fact he usually would prerecord his own voice for backing vocals to give certain sound effects when mixed tightly together with his live singing, and for his rap parts as well. Btw, this song is composed and arranged by Hua Chenyu, for a movie indeed.

Hua ChenYu (華晨宇) is not just a singer/rapper, he also write his own songs. He is a professoinal musician. In another music competition show, he rewrote an old chinese song called "girls of Ali Mountain". I recommend that song.
And about the background singers, in China on this kind of music competition shows, there is huge orchestra behind the singer with at least 4 background singers. It is like to have your own concert, and for Hua ChenYu who is used to have his own concert, he knows how to write and work with other professional musicians.
If you watch one of his concert, even the Chinese/Korean group, EXO, was in the audiens. They loved the performance.
