The 10min rule really does help. I have been using it to build the habit of showing up at the gym. I tell myself I am only going for 10 min. It has made a difference in my showing up. I am doing this to build the habit of going to the gym. I show up I work out for 10min I go home. I am starting to see success in my ability to show up. I will incrementally increase the time as the habit is formed for me.
This his home! My task list is mixed with tasks and projects causing a feeling of being overwhelmed, leading to really not getting anything done. Great video!
There is an other way to consume productivity videos : as a compagnonship to do smthg. When I feel lazy and don't want to clean and tidy my home, I watch a TH-cam video of cleaning content in the same time I do my laundry or wash the dishes. Same for productivity content, it can help to not feel lonely when boring tasks are coming : administrative papers, groceries lists and budgets, ...
Separating tasks and projects -> brilliant! As you are -> brilliant! Thanks so much for providing a much-needed life-line of clarity amidst a sea of planning content.
I like the term armchair productivity. I tend to describe it as “playing productivity”, like playing business, when you make a plan and organize and sort it all out but you don’t actually do the things. Just subscribed to your channel, excited to see more f your content!
Momentum is such a great concept. This is why I can't eat the frog, ever. I need appetizers and once I'm in flow, nothing can stop me. But also, telling my brain I'll work for 10 minutes and then I can use the rest of that 15 or 30 min period to do whatever I want. The thing is, often the flow that kicks in feels really good, so I keep going. But it's important not to trick your brain ALL the time. Once or twice a day I'll it for the break instead and just good around for 20 minutes. That's all right too. The idea of constant productivity is really toxic and only creates unrealistic expectations and shame.
Thank you for the "eating the frog" comment. I no longer feel alone. LOL I have to work up to the things I'm dreading. It's just how I'm hardwired. I hope you have a wonderful day.
The thing with me is that different things work at different times. Sometimes biting the frog works for me, other times doing the first 10 minutes works for me. So because of this, I don’t do either one of them regularly, lol.
Omg it’s like you knew exactly what I needed to hear! You made me realize my hobby is learning but not actually doing as I’d like to do. Thank you for eye-opener!
This video is amazing! When you broke tasks and projects it was like a light bulb went off in my head! I'm an Admin Assist and I've been struggling with organizing and procrastinating. This simple explanation was definitely a "wow" moment/wake up call for me. Thank you so much!!
I’ve been watching hundreds of vids even those for us with ADHD. This by far has been the best and I so excited to get thing rolling using these tips. Thank you!
I feel so called out 😂😂😂 Actually this was extremely helpful. I realize now that if I’m procrastinating on something, it’s because I haven’t broken it down into small enough steps.
I'm always seeing videos and clips and posts of people setting up or starting a new system, but never how the follow up with it and show it in use. It's why I've enjoyed diving back into bullet journalling, because people will show spreads after the pen. Dismantling perfectionism is also a key. I have a time log and I've decided that if I haven't logged my time in hyper detail, I haven't failed. If anything, that blank space in the data tells me information too. Instrumental music is to best for my background noise, or Animal Crossing New Horizons silent playthroughs. The best method is to only listen to that background music/noise when I'm doing work, not when I'm doing leisure.
Lol. I was just thinking of this...all this work to set up planners/goals, etc. and nothing to actually include in them since spending so much time setting them up...
This video gave me so much clarity today, I was doing the "build a website" as a task and I've been postponing it for months 😢 I start working on it and I get distractated easily as I don't have a set of tasks to do everyday, thanks for sharing these tips
You got into my head. You knew why I was not tackling that task. You explained to me that that task was not a task, but a project. You defined that a project is a series of tasks💡Never heard a project being defined so simply, but it is so profound. Thanks!
Rachelle I really appreciate these productivity videos. You have a real talent for explaining these concepts and the writing with the sharpies is a really great reinforcement to your words. Love it.
good video but I wanna jump in and suggest that the 'no podcasts no youtube no music with words' advice depends on the task - I think it's fine (and good!) when the task you're doing isn't language-focussed - eg. cleaning, drawing, painting a wall...
You're spot on! Implementing your advice for a goal of mine that I've been procrastinating on. I think switching from a goal focus to a productivity focus will put me into action. Also like the timer idea bc I struggle with adult ADHD.
Do you know how many years prepping and researching and planning i spent on something as easy as keeping a clean house rather than actually cleaning my house? instead of vacuuming i’d sit there and wonder if i needed a new vacuum or better vacuum and seeing what the best (half your fb posts are people looking for the best of things, amiright?) and should i buy it now or wait until it goes on sale and millions of other way i could waste time, like watching cleaning routine videos. its ok to do from time to time as sometimes they can be satisfying to just watch, but yeah, just do the thing.
Hi, this is the first video I am watching of you and I am only 6 minutes in. I just wanted to point out that al the behaviors you are calling out, can be symptoms of adhd. I got diagnosed a year ago and all the things you are naming (well at least until halfway into the video) are symptoms I am always having a hard time with and learning it's adhd helped me so much. Doesn't mean you have adhd or maybe you are already diagnosed. It's not my business either way but I just wanted to add that in case it's information that is just as valuable to you as it was to me. Besides that, love the video and the tips❤.
I've never felt more attacked nor seen from a video. Jokes aside, really appreciate your content! Loved this video a lot. Resonated with me a bit too well 😜
Fantastic video! I just finished reading “Getting Things Done” and will be implementing the system. So it really helps to see you explaining the same concepts in a different way. Thank you!
I have been using it for years! You may modify it over time, which is also fine, use the parts that work best for you (and when I started we did not have electronic calendar options, so joining them together is great).
Omg i found this video and unfortunately this is me!! I completely set out my road map for want i am going to do down to the last detail but part of my actual plan demands that i have to make 4 videos a week and work on my amazon business for 3 hours every other day but i am not doing this at all! Im going to take your advise thanks!
For the music, doesnt necessarily need to be lyricless depending on your brain. I find songs I know very well function as well or better than lyricless music. Though Im the weird person who can listen to the same song on repeat for 4 hours while working so your mileage may vary
I couldn’t find your playlist for the music. I looked under Playlist and I looked for a link. Where can I find the deep focus music you talked about early in this vid?
Could you please talk about how to use planning to do activism and solidarity actions for Palestine?🍉 I find that a lot of people are worried about this right now and needing tools to manage time, effort, and effectiveness around it.
It’s not PERFECTIONISM. It truly is not a need to do it perfect or spectacularly. It is simply not exciting to do the same shit anyone can do. Watching humans is exciting. Fun sounds, crazy animals, and neon lights done right are fantastic. Then we want to go peacefully into our zen with ASMR, magic ear buds, and fidget sensory solutions to alleviate the exposed nerve we have become. You DON’T WANT TO PUT YOUR TOYS DOWN! Put your FUCKING TOYS DOWN and get up! You’re not the bullet journal guy. You’re not the next Hello Brain ADHD girl. You’re not the next Ted Talk. You’re not EVEN THE GIRL WHO MADE THIS TH-cam VIDEO. YOU are a spectator friend. A couch tater friend. An ADHDater my friend. You’re not here to learn productivity. You dug your own hole and no online personality is going to get you out of it. YOU are bored fucking bored with modern life. Go make it interesting again. The rest of the productivity shit will fall away or fall in line. This iPad is boring. This TikTok is boring. That planner is super fucking boring. Take your strength, go do what you do or did, however you can and stop looking to others. This shit is only interesting enough because it’s all become so very dull when you think of the daily grind vs the infinite online world. Shake things up. Be bold and don’t give your planners away. Burn them shits at a bonfire you initiated. Toss them in a giant duffle bag and write if found, “don’t call Marty McFly, cuz I’m out living my life!” . Go now, now, now! Great video by the way. None of us can truly imagine all the hard work that goes into making this video (and that’s why we lazy beyotches think we could do it). Peace…and see you at the bonfire!!!
When you say "you" do you really mean yourself? I wonder how successful your content IS for productivity and equals to you being the example. I find more real and relatable to speak from experience not just lecturing people, selling/vouching products just for the $ luring people into buying shit they do not need.
Thank you for such good ideas. May I just say that your hands are lovely but I am afraid very, very distracting. I love your content, but found myself trying to follow your hand move, ents more than listening to what you have to say. Thank you again.
What with the hands ? You really talk like that with your hands ? They are not really that beautiful and different colors painted are distracting . I can’t hear what you are saying .

Very cool! ❤ Well done
Me = Queen of armchair productivity and Procrastination 😂❤. Ok I will now get up and put on a 10 min timer and go do something

Real talk... Best hack ever! FACTS!
That’s an idea I had a while ago, but I never got around to actually doing it, lol.
It's a great hack! Washing up + useful video = time well spent!
this is brilliant :) Thank you.
Separating tasks and projects -> brilliant! As you are -> brilliant! Thanks so much for providing a much-needed life-line of clarity amidst a sea of planning content.
Getting Things Done is a great book for this. Was seriously life changing for me.
@@stephaniebograd3315 It's been a life changer for me too!

Not me sitting on the couch watching this video about planning because I have a lot in my planner to do LOL 😳😳😂
This video is amazing! When you broke tasks and projects it was like a light bulb went off in my head! I'm an Admin Assist and I've been struggling with organizing and procrastinating.
This simple explanation was definitely a "wow" moment/wake up call for me. Thank you so much!!

Brilliant. Clear. Love the “just do it” vibe. Thanks Coach!
I feel so called out 😂😂😂
Actually this was extremely helpful. I realize now that if I’m procrastinating on something, it’s because I haven’t broken it down into small enough steps.
I feel so seen and called out in the best way possible from this video😂
I'm always seeing videos and clips and posts of people setting up or starting a new system, but never how the follow up with it and show it in use. This is probably the best TH-cam video I've seen for a LONG time. Armchair Productivity - definitely me.... Thanks for the tips, Rachelle!
A lightbulb went off understanding task list vs project list. THANK YOU! 💡
Thread 1 of 500 in the procrastination blanket.
finally, the best advice on how to start doing what you need to do
These tips are awesome! I'm slowly learning how to be productive instead of being a planner. 🎉
You got into my head. You knew why I was not tackling that task. You explained to me that that task was not a task, but a project. You defined that a project is a series of tasks💡Never heard a project being defined so simply, but it is so profound. Thanks!
Calling me out like this?! In front of my crab rangoons?!
totally watching this while procrastinating.
Rachelle I really appreciate these productivity videos. You have a real talent for explaining these concepts and the writing with the sharpies is a really great reinforcement to your words. Love it.
I love movie and game soundtracks for productivity playlists - I've been using them for years!
GTD follower since 2005. nice to see it mentioned in 2024!
This video explains the productivity neorosis of my life 😂 thanks for helping me to now get out of it! ❤
There is no channel like yours- I’m so happy I found you the other day!!!!! I haven’t seen any other channel like it!
A lot of really great tips which gave me hope that I might finally be able to stop procrastinating! Thank you. 🌸
im over here "working on things", thinking, and researching how to make a great video but havent post yet. (you nailed it!)
the title and timing of this video 😩 kidding aside - thank you for regularly making videos like this one!! needed the reminder
This was exactly what I needed! Thanks for sharing

7:02 That's a huge mouse! 😄 Thanks for sharing tips on stopping the productivity porn.
The best productivity program for me, bar none, is The 12 Week Year!

You have no idea how much I needed this right now. Thank you!

Great video, thank you for the good tips and the inspiration to do better at the things I already know how to do without "needing another system" :)
Armchair productivity 🤦🏽♀️. These are good suggestions. Breaking out projects from the task list. I'm going to try it now
Gracias por compartir esta estrategia para poder lograr lo que tanto nos cuesta! Saludos desde Chile
This is so me! I’m also an armchair fitness expert :) great video, thank you
Wonderful video Rachel! Thank you so much! I will try these this week😊

I feel really called out right now 😂
Soooo called out... gonna go cry into my 8 planners
me when i see the graph paper and sharpie come out 🤓🤩
Could you please share your sound tracks playlist? My work environment is pretty noisy.
You describe me in the beginning of the video. 😅

Hey Mack. You're like my late Dad. He used to do everything 'by eye'. Sadly, I got born with 'crooked eyes'. LOL
The irony of saving this video to my Watch Later list...
🤣🤣🤣
Hi!! Do you make housecalls?!? 😂
I sub’d btw!! Not cus your cute as a bug but you are smarter than most!! 🤔 What kinda bug you want be; a lady bug would be good!

A lovely kick in the pants! 😅
The Get magical link doesn’t work for me
Ok just call me out at 7am 😂😂
Thanks for the videos. Love the Content. Also, your dusty armchair really caught my eyes.
Well i feel seen 😅
Could you please talk about how to use planning to do activism and solidarity actions for Palestine?🍉
I find that a lot of people are worried about this right now and needing tools to manage time, effort, and effectiveness around it.
RIP your notebook 😂

Hmmm 😂😂
Thank you for such good ideas. May I just say that your hands are lovely but I am afraid very, very distracting. I love your content, but found myself trying to follow your hand move, ents more than listening to what you have to say. Thank you again.
This is really cute coming from someone who has zero life experience.
"Dont let people give you free advice" (sneak in example that fosters hate between genders). in a video giving free advice :p
What with the hands ? You really talk like that with your hands ? They are not really that beautiful and different colors painted are distracting . I can’t hear what you are saying .
I wonder why you put in gender roles in your video about a “random” dude giving advice
This video is the devil.
Pls stop with the hands.
This was such a callout 🫣 but this is why I like your channel so much!
