We gotta think that those helmets are actually not exclusive to River city. Game wise of course they're unique to River city because they programmerd it, but lore wise that helmet and armor certainly does not look like it should belong in a carrier. And it's police Gear.
If you go with one of the three combat options, new merchant encounters will spawn in the world claiming "Big Town put in an order for supplies." OR, if you choose not to defend the town, or everyone dies from the ensuing mutant attack, a scavenger encounter will spawn saying hes going there to loot it.
I thought by repairing the robot they'd be safe, found out from the scavenger that big town got raided and he was going to loot the town sheesh didn't see that coming 😳🫤

I kind of always liked this place. One thing I would have loved to see with Fallout 3 (and any following Fallout games or games similar to it) is actual visual changes to environments as a result of your actions. Big Town is a perfect opportunity for such, pity it's not exploited to its full potential. I'd imagine depending on how you dealt with the Super Mutants the town would have had a different visual outcome for it. Deal with the Mutants yourself, the town just looks cleaner, healthy and growing, even have a new merchant for you to trade with. (this part would come with the other option, this would just be the base idea for the outcome) Explosives, I would see the bridge having more cover to protect Dusty from the shrapnel from the mines and the road has more holes thanks to the mines used. Guns, the entrance has more cover for the people defending the town and ammo boxes behind said cover. Science, near the junkyard there's a workbench and a new securitron being put back in piece by one of the residents Stealth, the town from the outside looks like a ghost town but everything looks different when you enter the homes where everything is more lively. And lastly, let them deal on their own, the town is just dead, nobody is around and is deserted.
When i went and rescued the 2 i simply never took them back home. I could outfit them in whatever equipment i wanted and they would follow me anywhere in the game, effectively being 2 extra followers.
Yep. You can do this with sticky and Sydney to. And a exploit allows you to have all permanent companions. I'd have them all carry plenty of stimpacks wear a full condition hellfire set and carry a Chinese assault rifle.
Kind of wish there was a set of missions to help them out a little further only thing you can really do is bring that one guy there forget his name but he (shows you how much I cared for the dude). So here you go one guy delivered. Love Red dialogue after that.
I never felt that Dusty actually came from Little Lamp Light. To me I feel like he's a run or teenage wanderer away that happend to find some of the kids who aged out and just followed them.
Dusty feels like he is a man who left the security of rivet city for one reason or another and happened to stumble across the kids at big town, and feeling pitiful for them and worried about their survival he decided to become their protector. Say what you will but most, MOST, older humans, will have their parental instincts kick in when they see a bunch of starving orphan kids, even if they’re sixteen or so.
Dusty doesn’t seem to be from lamplight or probably the oldest bigtown settler, no one mentions him being with him coming to big town or even talks about him that much
I always helped them without reward; they're just kids. Maybe its against my mirals go extort people (thank goodness). Though maybe a bottle of water, a stimpack, two radaway and a hug would be nice ^_^
Now I'm gonna have to make Red a follower with that free healing ability. Never knew that the Lucky 8 Ball actually gave you luck though! Awesome video!
Lol on one of my first play throughs I got killed by the super mutants attack, so my grand idea was to rig the bridge with mines. Clearly unaware that people actually walk around big town too. Everyone hated me for some reason why I returned. Soon found the limbs of my unfortunate victims near by the bridge.
I tried the explosives option once, with disastrous results: the Big Town residents got in the way, and a couple got blown up. Robotics worked better, but unless you get involved with shooting the Super Mutants, some of the Big Town residents will get killed. By far, the best option is to train the residents of Big Town to defend themselves with firearms. After Red and Shorty help you to escape from the Germantown police station together, they're pretty ready for more combat
Ah yes, Big Town. Where I placed 20+ mines leading into the town up to the wooden bridge....I recreated NASA'S space program with the attackers lol Random: restarted this about a month or two ago, completely forgetting that Vault 112 is near Evergreen. Doing some exploring and come across my father completely randomly. Thus skipping Rivet Citys mission to locate people to find him lol
I was so disappointed. I found Big town early in the game. I did everything and when i got to the 4 options to help the town i chose the robot option. I for the life of me couldn't figure out what to do in the junk yard so i left figuring it was somewhere else in the game. I didn't know you needed 50 science points to complete the story. Once i returned later in the game everyone was gone. I didn't know till just now you needed 50 pts science. Too bad i guess.
@@dominickefrim3088 no right or wrong mate, just have fun with it! And put points into speech, lockpick and science so you can hack every terminal, pick every lock, and pass any speech checks, makes the game so much easier and that way you rarely miss anything!

Getting sticky there was hilarious, I gave him a melee weapon and an assault rifle trying to be nice and he just charged after a Deathclaw 😂 had to load a saved game a lot 😂
You know the first lamplighters would have been around the same age and would have all had to leave for Big Town around the same time. Even if there were a few younger they'd still left soon after. So how was there any kids left?
could be a whole slew of ways. -Kids who hear about lamplight winding up there. -traveling groups with kids in them arriving at lamplight, being told "no adults", and so they leave the kids there. -Merchants who find kids or orphans in the wasteland and so they bring them to little lamplight. -Parents who cant take care of their kids for one reason or another sending them to little lamplight. There is also the less uncouth possibility that older teens in lamplight, being unable to stave off the hormones of puberty, wind up with kids, and when they are eventually forced to leave for big town they just leave their babies behind to be raised by the children at lamplight.

Technically there’s two doctors who can heal you for free, one is red (of course) and the other is the medical handy in the brotherhood fort (gotta fix his subroutine first though).
i remember taking the robot option , everything is all normal and dandy , then i came back like in game weeks later everyone is dead , even the robots its a massacre

That's because the mutants that came later got them. I suggest you load an old save or else they're gone forever. I know it might seem arduous because you already done some quests and it's a difficult choice to load back to an old save, but it's your only choice if you want to see big town with life again. Here's my guess where you might have possibly messed up; You are given 4 options, after choosing one(e.g. robot repair), wait a couple in-game hours for mutants to show up and help defend Big Town. After you successfully repel the attack, the caravan/traders/merchants will start appearing there and big town will be a safe place. In addition, there will be a scavenger npc that will head to big town and become a permanent resident. Following this method, not only did you save big town, but also increased its population and improved its economy.

This happened to me too. Not only was the town deserted, I tried to use the console to summon Red and resurrect her but she just dies again the moment I do so. I can't even use my console God powers to save them now. :(
The town gets attacked intermittently after you finish the quest. Unless you teach them to defend themselves with guns they'll slowly get picked off. I've been in town when it happened too, saw a Yao Guai take off Timebombs arm with one swing.
There's not really much use from reds healing other than right after you get it or when you might pass by again. Getting the my first infirmary for whichever house you decide on does all of that for free. Fast traveling to big town just to heal is moot when it's all right there at home.
Big town is called "big" not because it's "big" but because its where the children from the vault go when they are big/grown up enough and can't stay in the vault anymore.
I was just playing. Found a scavenger and he told me everyone was either dead pr dragged off. For this one I had repaired the robots, I fast traveled over there and yup. No one, only mutants and robots. Like wtf all my work for nothin

I just did the shooting range one and reverse pick pocketed an AR and 120 rounds each too bad ammo is harder to find in this game compared to FNV.
I think the Big Town and Arefu questlines are my two absolute most favorites in the entire francise.

On my last playthrough i reverse pickpocketed cool armor and weapons to all the inhabitants of the town, is the least I could do for these poor folk
I armed all mine with power armour and a mini gun
you can give some nice equipment to red, shorty and sticky (the guy you escorted from little lamplight) without any karma penatly :)
I never thought you should get negative Karma from reverse pickpocketing unless it's a grenade or something. You're just subtly helping people out.

3 actually. Butcher from Reilly’s rangers heals you for free once you rescue them from the hotel.

After you fix the robot you still have to say there for a while because the super mutants will attack. After that I think they should be fine

Everyone in big town is gone in my version. Like no one died, I think the game glitched them out of existence.
If they're gone, it means the muties took them all away.
