What they are referring to about dishwasher tablets is to use a non-sudsing (no foaming) cleaner to remove oily residue from metal. I used an old diesel mechanics trick with powdered Cascade dish washing soap diluted with water to throughly clean the inside of the block on my 82 Mercedes 300 diesel. Worked like a champ.
I didn't think I could like your videos more, then you kept the sound in at the increased speed, I got a few good chuckles out of the ticy-ticy-ticy-ticy walking sounds!
Hi Matt. Really good content and standards. I use any washing machine liquid in our oil cooler clean out jobs, couple or three flushes does a great job. I’ve spent my life working on my own in the workshop and it’s challenging but makes you come up with some neat jigs and tools. I’ve spent more time making something to fix something than enough. Keep up the good work and look after yourself in that cold workshop this coming Winter. I hope to meet you one day and thank you for the time taken to post your endeavours on TH-cam. Stay safe. Regards. Chris.
Matt, get some zinc spray paint we call it dry zinc . spray all the rusty places after a good wire wheel brushing then spray Rustoleum paint of your colour choice and you will not have any rust problems for years to come. the zinc we get in Canada comes in spray cans, I recommend you give it a go. Again nice work, most people have no idea of the time it takes to fab a job up.
Done the dishwasher tablet trick many times Works a treat, worth flushing it a couple times over a couple weeks Changed a good few transit oil coolers and never had any probs doing it this way
Just want to say thanks for all your videos. I have learnt a lot. You said about not filming stuff as it might be boring. I just like hanging out in the work shop - Nothing your doing is boring. I would be interested to know about spraying it, and how to stop it chipping off so easily. Thanks.
We use dishwasher powder to clean the cooling system when they get oil in them on Kenworths at work. Make sure it has phosphates in it as the the no/low phosphate detergent doesn't work as well.
I've done the dishwasher tablet thing to clean out an old engine block which had had mixed coolant in so full of jelly and white sediment shit. I mixed it up in a big tub then put it in the coolant system while spinning the water pump with a drill. It worked a treat, I also ran a couple of bottles of diet coke through it but I think the dishwasher stuff did the most work. Still using that engine 2 years on.
I have used all the Wynn's products and have found that all of them do what they say on the tin. I have used their stop leak, seal treatment, oil supercharge and all have proven viable products to me.
Good work as normal i have used bio washing powder loads of times in the coolant system about half a cup full works a treat drive it around for a day or two then drain it and flush backwards with a hose then job done look forward to the next update
I had the oil to water cooler burst a couple years ago... tried the dishwasher tablet idea but it foamed like crazy in the reservoir and left oil residue in the pipes so used a product called a cooling system biodegreaser by a company called forte... i got it at the garage i worked at then, and it cleaned the system nicely.. hope that helps bro, loving watching every bit
I use washing power to clean out cooling systems. Use about half a cup mix with hot water and pour it in. Normally takes about 3-4 flushes to get the system... the oil could be getting into the cooling system from the oil cooler when they crack internally. Its a common problem on the mk7 transit not sure about the mk6 tho
Use daz washing powder use it all the time to clear oil out of cooling systems half a cup eachtime get it hot run it for a bit then drain do that a couple of times
run washing powder through it it doesnt foam, then flush with normal water after a good run, then put the hose in the header tank after a run to get the oil out eventuality it will clear
That "Wynn" brand engine oil additive is good. I have used these additives at each oil change on older engines and the results were; clean, shiny internal parts and oil ways. It is a detergent and removes tar and other dirt. However they are not compatible with catalytic converters, as I have seen this on one of the labels. So please check before using.
I used to look after a fleet of mk6/mk7 transits after an oil cooler failure the ford service bulletin said use some cheap liquid laundery detergent in fresh water (about a cap full) run the engine for 30 mins on idle then flush 2/3 times until clear Then add coolant water mix Easy enough job Trucks looking good have built 3 my self rather heavy duty ones for local scrap guys Fully decked with 4mm steel dunbar sheets
Ive used soap powder to get the oil outta the cooling system.... need to get the engine warm first , wack it in and run it for 15-20 minutes then flush out ... i would say do that 3 times for a nice clean system 👍👍 cant see why the ole dishwasher tabs wouldn’t work ?? Worth a go ? Cant do any harm !
You need a detergent to break down the oil, washing powder (for your clothes) works wonders. You might have to do it a couple of times to get it prefect but it's cheaper than engine flush.
U can just put dish washer liquid in and run it then drain it and do that a few times and then put water and antifreeze back in it we do all our trucks like this at our diesel shop
epic as usual bro, thanks for making more vids , i knowits alot of work but is well appreciated , my brother has a channel, Sailing Yaught Zora, so i can appreciate the time and effort. keep it up mate,
Good idea stitch welding the chassis, I think it's common practice to do that to the panels when building a rally car. Is that style of chassis like a semi monocoque? do the rails we see disappear as it blends in to the cab?
Have you ever heard of RUSTOLIUM PAINT. It was designed for oil rigs. You can have it made up with what ever colour you want with a paint code. I use it all the time. If you paint the back body it will last for years without showing any signs of rust coming through. The chassis and cab will come up amazing and the tin worm will be defeated. You are doing a cracking job. cheers
Fill your coolant full with diesel fuel, let it sit for a good half hour and drain it. Everyone is saying dishwash soap, but I dont think that will break down the hard sludged up oil like diesel or kerosene.
Matt great vids as always. I'd be keen to see how long it you were recording for to make a 16 minute video (for all future vids), for eg 8 hours of work compressed to 16 minutes
What I do is put the newest tyres on the front as they always go bald faster so I would put the new ones on the front and left the alright tyres on the back as they don’t do much they just sit there wont even need balancing really, but yeah maybe just personal preferences
That paint it spot on, used it a few times now with no issues.
Slamming your service bits and tins onto your welding table was making a satisfyingly solid ‘bang’ lol
nice job Matt, builds always take longer then you plan and we all think we can do it in half the time lol. Cheers
No waffle, informative, great workmanship and dry as a bone humour, superb.

Nice work, thanks for making the videos for us to follow your progress.
nice build. lot of free space on both sides under the ramp, just behind the cab. extra storage boxes maybe?
Good job by not ignoring the rust on the cab and frame. Protect your investment. Looking forward to the next installment. Cheers.

Loving the dub music
Your welding looks really nice
Done the dishwasher tablet trick many times

your doing a cracking job, fantastic that we will be able to see it all through to completion!

Thanks, Im not a painter so its not gonna be a professional spay job I can tell you that. Cheers
I have used washing soda in the coolant system for cleaning it out ... it works very well.
Best stuff I’ve ever used for oil is made by Lucas. Their oil stabiliser is brilliant and I know a few people who swear by it
To perfection 👌🏼👍👍
Loving your detailed vids on the Transit Recovery build, i also found the links to the tools which you are using useful. Quality work. Cheers Malcolm
Yeah good to see the complete build .. awesome job
Brilliant video thank you ❤️👀👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I have used washing powder on loads of cars with oil in the water. It does work and works well.
Thanks for posting this!
Very enjoyable watching you build the platform

Painting is always 90 percent prep, good work bro
Yeh thats why I hate it.

I used daz on my jeep grand cherokee when the oil cooler went and mixed the oil and coolant and it worked amazing better than the purpose made stuff
Good work mate 👍
Use daz washing powder use it all the time to clear oil out of cooling systems half a cup eachtime get it hot run it for a bit then drain do that a couple of times
great stuff.....thanks
I used to work for the manufacture of the baufix paint very strange seeing it in the UK.
I know you said that you was gonna leave the spare wheel where it was... but have you just made sure you can wind it up/down with the bed on?
Great video, as always, nice to see your subs going up!
run washing powder through it it doesnt foam, then flush with normal water after a good run, then put the hose in the header tank after a run to get the oil out eventuality it will clear

Easy enough job
Trucks looking good have built 3 my self rather heavy duty ones for local scrap guys
Fully decked with 4mm steel dunbar sheets
yep
don't fall for anything they sell for the job, it's all crap! non bio liquid detergent or a dishwasher tablet, works every time
Ive used soap powder to get the oil outta the cooling system.... need to get the engine warm first , wack it in and run it for 15-20 minutes then flush out ... i would say do that 3 times for a nice clean system 👍👍 cant see why the ole dishwasher tabs wouldn’t work ?? i used dishwasher soap liquid when my oil cooler broke on my international. i had to flush like 3 times but i just had straigh oil in the radiator lol
I would make a mud guards bolt on. So you can put the bed on first and not hit the mud guards trying to put the bed on
epic as usual bro, thanks for making more vids , i knowits alot of work but is well appreciated , my brother has a channel, Sailing Yaught Zora, so i can appreciate the time and effort. keep it up mate,

user12345 yep it is a unibody truck so the "framerails" are part of the body

I've heard of it but its not something I've seen in shops here. Cheers
"Top of the bottom range". Made me laugh.
Beautiful welds. It's a shame they have to be hidden.
Fill your coolant full with diesel fuel, let it sit for a good half hour and drain it. Everyone is saying dishwash soap, but I dont think that will break down the hard sludged up oil like diesel or kerosene.
Again, thanks man. I enjoy the videos, but the Indio you share an responses to questions in the comments.
a profundity: "everything takes longer than it does".
Great job like always.
What's the story with your mk2 in the background ... would love to see more. 👌
Thats my track toy, hopefully get some time to finish it soon. Cheers
What is the gross vehicle weight rating on your truck?
you will be disapointed in how long the box lasts ,,, drill drain holes and try acf 50 ,
Matt great vids as always. I'd be keen to see how long it you were recording for to make a 16 minute video (for all future vids), for eg 8 hours of work compressed to 16 minutes
Its usually a day compressed. Cheers
Thanks Matt. Good to know.
love it, matt what editing software do you use, is it free or paid, and is it hard to use like making stuff fast forward and that,,,,,, Thanks
Its premiere pro, yes you have to pay and its way too advanced for me. Cheers
What I do is put the newest tyres on the front as they always go bald faster so I would put the new ones on the front and left the alright tyres on the back as they don’t do much they just sit there wont even need balancing really, but yeah maybe just personal preferences
Washing powder will work on the cooling system
Off topic but don't put fairy liquid in your dishwasher as it floods your kitchen.
So weird to me seeing a truck like that that's built with a unibody
dishwasher tablets are mainly salt...
dont put the injector cleaner directly into fuel filter , it will blow the engine . I did with disastrous results , follow instructions on bottle.
Hahahaha "top of the bottom range"
Hi we’re are you based
Dorset. Cheers
