You’re human! Anyone that cares about what they do will and should reflect on their job to see where the improvements would be for next time round. I enjoy your content and the honest way you present your work.
Looks bloody good, mate. I first saw this in the mongrel build and had to go back and binge watch the series. I just finished my car trailer and made it way too strong, heavy and complicated. I suffer from a serious lack of motivation so I didn't tack properly and the whole trailer has a bow in it. I really like this idea and hate towing trailers so I'm looking into doing similar. Vans like this are rare in Australia and quite expensive plus I would need a crew cab as well so I might end up getting a van and doing full custom 4 door, 3 axle, chassis stretch car carrier/tray back so it's multi-function. Thanks for a whole nother project I don't have time or money for!
perfect timing for this upload cause i binge watched the whole series this morning! It is fucking awesome and I can't understand why you're beating yourself up so much. This is loads better than most other trailers like it.
Nicely done my friend. Don’t over think things and question your decisions. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. I’m sure it will stand up to the use that you intended it for, as a hobbyist/ light work truck.
Good video Matt, we all think we have it covered in a build, then look back and say I should or could have done it this way, that's life mate. Keep up the good work. Cheers
I like the ally tread plate, it keeps it light, don't need paint/finish it and looks far better than using steel . No bother fit really with good drill bits and the air riveter .
Reflection on the finished job is part and parcel of what makes a good engineer, you want to achieve perfection but cost and choices will always limit that. The realisation of that, especially choices like painting it himself being a mistake just mean he'll be able to do a better job next time. Better to make a mistake making something than making the mistake of making nothing at all.
Looks really nice. You should be proud of it. There's a lot of hard graft gone in there but same as any project it's easy to get disheartened 3/4 of the way through as there seems to be no end in sight just hard work and money being thrown at it and no reward as the thing still not useable. First time you get a car on the back of it will be like that first drive (or burnout) in a new build car. Suddenly you remember why you started the project in the first place. Three years on and off into my rwd b204 Saab motored spaceframed eurocar Mondeo project I'd forgotten why I started doing it. Then got it on the Dyno (296hp td04 15t) followed by some victory donuts in the car park outside and I remembered what it was for. Drift days here we come!
The thing I like about this build, is that you could unbolt the whole thing and put it straight on to another transit, or make a separate flat deck, and be able to swap them over for versatility. Great to follow this build, and a great result. All of us here have the same thought after completing a project .... if I did it again, I would ........
Fit an isolator on your winch live. Some scrotes attached a friends winch rope to his tow bar over his range rover roof and shorted the solonoid connections out, you can imagine the damage that caused.
Yea, looks the part bud. I like the ally plate. I think your vids are just cool. Maybe show us more of your tricks as you build. In the beginning of the vid looks like you sharpened the hole saw with the grinder. Cool idea, didn't think of that. I would have put a triangle file on it. Keep it up like your build.
Lidl tools are awesome, I now make a point of heading there once a week to see if anything new is out! I’m yet to have one of there power tools fail on me.
Amazing videos amazing work on that recovery truck reminds me of when me and my cousin got in business with a motor bike recovery guy we got a crew cap recovery truck was worn down so we ended up Sanding back every part of the chassis and recovery body back to bare metal got it under coated and resprayed the recovery bed even replaced the steal plating with aluminium like your self but with a crew cab it's heavier then a single cab so we replaced what we could with the stuff that weighted less as we all was planning on driving it with a car licence instead of upgrading to a higher weight licence we managed to get it down from almost 3 tone too 2 and a half by upgrading wasn't enough as most cars are slightly over a tone but we managed to get away with it for ages then me and my cousin desired to build our own truck but a single cab like you self brought a truck with recovery body and ended up loaded a car on and the body mounting legs where so rusted they snapped was the moment we diceded it wasn't the right time for our own truck we ended up losing contact until a few days ago when he contacted me to help him repair his truck and we met up and one of the things we spoke about was when we owned a truck I feel like the moment I started watching these videos of your personal from scratch truck build has helped me and my family linked to my cousin reconnect around the time of the first video his older brother contacted me then a little while after his dad and mum contacted me about going for dinner then yesterday or the day before my cousin contacted me about his flatbed none tipper truck going in to limp mode on top of that you are the only person ever to do detailed videos of your step by step truck build from the ground up you are truly amazing and I saw the video the other day including the end where you asked us how we would like to see videos and in my opinion I believe your videos are perfect the way they are already being made step by step I feel like you are a true future British youtuber and if I'm honest I would love to meet you and learn how to weld like you as your welding is amazing I've only ever welded twice once was with a mechanic friend that has since started his own mechanical and body repair shop with a paint booth recently being added in the last year or so and the second time was during the first couple of months on level three of my light vehicle repairs course to become a vehicle mechanic when my younger boss which was the son of the main business owner let me do some welding on a car outer seal repair patch and if I'm honest I believe I didn't do to bad but you are a professional from what information I have got from watching you work on the truck I live near the Wimbledon tennis grounds and if you are willing I would love to travel too your location for a day or two so that I could maybe learn from you and also while there help you on any jobs you have going on to help you complete them I will fully understand if you don't have time to do any of what I've said but I no matter what will still watch you and any content you upload you are amazing at your work and you should carry on sharing content even if it don't include the recovery truck build I would love to see your channel grow in too the next big uk channel on here all the love from your London living fan
Thanks man I appreciate that, im glad to hear you digging it! I cant have anyone other than me in the workshop without having extra insurance which is why ive decided not to take on an apprentice. I would like to do classes one day but ive got a lot on my plate as is so I dont know when that would be. Cheers
Great vids I enjoy the content build looks great but as someone else said you should show some of your tricks along the way like sharpening a hole saw with a grinder never seen that one before
Keeping the content interesting is way more relevant than how often/how long the clips are which is what you have been doing so far, although a close up of how the gun put the rivots in would have been nice. You don't make us suffer through repetition by fast forwarding but never leave out the important how you did it parts. You also don't waffle on like a lot of people seem to do, especially Americans.
I think TH-cam likes videos of certain lengths if you want to get featured.. Also you could think about scheduled uploading/release so there is less pressure on uploading and releasing videos all the time... If you are doing projects creating a playlist at the end so new subscribers coming later on can watch the series is also handy... All depends on time in the end... I saw those air tools and a compressor in Lidl certainly there were potentially many budget bargains to be had... Great to hear your thoughts about what you would change or do differently in the future...
I think its turned out fine, you can always fit and adjust later. Are you familiar with CAD (Computer Aided Design). It is one tool that is extremely useful in the shop, especially a fabricating shop, and this build is a prime candidate for its use. You could have made the design, specified the materials, welds and fasteners and other equipment and finish.
I like it, but hope you don`t have to much of a problem with the skids, removing and replacing them when you have a car loaded on it, but a great job all in all.
Is the truck going to live inside? If not it might be worth welding up an alloy cover for the winch? Keep some of the crap off it. Got a cover on mine but just a cheap waterproof material cover. Always meant to make a decent hard cover.
Brilliant man love watching and learning thank you very much❤️👀👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Cheers for making
Truck turned out great. You should be proud.

Matt I don't care what you do,
I'll still watch it no matter what .
Ritch.
Looks bloody good, mate.

7:25 Done. Finished. Complete.
Lol I love that movie!
Decent build mate, don't be tough on yourself
Overall a tidy job no corner cutting plenty of thought gone into it. Don’t knock yourself buddy great vids 👍
Great job
Brilliant video thank you ❤️👀👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Great job mate

Good video Matt, we all think we have it covered in a build, then look back and say I should or could have done it this way, that's life mate. Keep up the good work. Cheers
Looks spot on I think the ramp location and setting the lights in more is the only difference I would make.
I like the ally tread plate, it keeps it light, don't need paint/finish it and looks far better than using steel .
No bother fit really with good drill bits and the air riveter .
Great build
Great job mate don’t beat yourself up.

Would love to get an old mk2 transit and stick it on that.
Turned out tops mate. Been interesting following a long project like that. Thanks for putting in so much effort filming so much of the build.
Brilliant video.
Looks good, alot better than most of the tow vehicles out there👍
Fit an isolator on your winch live. Some scrotes attached a friends winch rope to his tow bar over his range rover roof and shorted the solonoid connections out, you can imagine the damage that caused.
Karl Hoyle WTF dude 😳 some people really have fantasy to use in the wrong contexts
Outstanding mate................Its a credit to you.
Looks great!!!....nice work...
Ya did an awesome job!! Wow!
Amazing job..
Good job well done 😎👍
One thing I would add is lights under the deck to light up the ground around the truck.
Good fit you done a good job on that Project is so much better job
Yea, looks the part bud. I like the ally plate. I think your vids are just cool. Maybe show us more of your tricks as you build. I noticed that too, was gonna say the same thing!
Well done Matt from one fbrctr to the next don,t be so hard on yourself bruv. You always produce nice clean work.✌🏼
That looks sheet hot Matt mate, really epic!!!!!
Looks mint 👌🏼
looking good man. leave a little slack in the winch cable or you can ruin the cable
Brilliant job glad youve took opinions off people like weld winch on and locks for ramps but you do need an isolator switch mate for winch
Looking very nice just need sum marker lights on the sides of the van now. Keep up the good work
Lidl tools are awesome, I now make a point of heading there once a week to see if anything new is out! I’m yet to have one of there power tools fail on me.
Looks really good unlike some of the shit you see on the roads that look like they should have been scrapped along time ago.
Totally looks like sheet!
great job you done well
Did you remember to drill drainage holes in the box in front of the winch. Great content keep it up thanks for sharing your thoughts
Very nice project....I can't remember anything I've done like this that I wouldn't do differently be it a big or small change. 👍
love your videos .....wish i had yr skills awsum welder......
Way to hard on yourself brother, it looks amazing well done 🏁🏁
Looks flipping awesome mate! Great job

Brilliant job ps love the more door hopefully that will be your next project for us all to see as I have a mk2 more door
Its not the next one but its on the list. Cheers
Looks good. I would have put locking side boxes behind the cab and under the bed.
Yeh Im gonna get some. Cheers
Looks the part matt , give the rims a lick of paint to finish it off :)
Loved this build thanks 🙏
Been following you for a while now and the 'finished' beast looks great 😎 Well done mate and keep the vids coming.. 😉👍
Great vids I enjoy the content build looks great but as someone else said you should show some of your tricks along the way like sharpening a hole saw with a grinder never seen that one before
Nah, she'll be right mate, no worries bloke.
Translation from Australian to English, "top job Sir"
looks brilliant can you make 10 more lol
Haha no!

Looks good Matt can we have a quick vid of the Mk2 and the other car in ur unit
Yep
Lidl do some good stuff, even if it breaks it's usually got a three year guarantee and they never quibble about giving you your money back

Yeh om not much good myself but I have a friend who is a wizard so hes drawn me up lots of parts in the past. Cheers
This could lead into a video about welding aluminum to steel. lol
All that needs done now is rims painted. Looks great tho.
Looks good. You could of used self drilling screws instead of rivets.
I like it, but hope you don`t have to much of a problem with the skids, removing and replacing them when you have a car loaded on it, but a great job all in all.
Is that marcus's mk2 escort in the background?
Great job, but looks bit heavy ,
How much have you saved converting it yourself overbuying one ready done ?
Not much if any. Cheers
How long how wide all that fun stuff
Your to hard on yourself .....you did a pro job ......caus ya are a pro
hi what is the thickness of aluminium you used tx.
I went to a bike shop here in Australia, and the guy behind the counter had no idea what a mudguard was. No idea.
Recovery truck is cool. Nice work! What kind of car is that in the back ground?? The black 4 door one. 🍺
mk2 escort. cheers
looks spot on, did you sort the oil cooler?
Doing it tomorrow. Cheers
What about side protection?
Is the truck going to live inside? If not it might be worth welding up an alloy cover for the winch? Keep some of the crap off it. Got a cover on mine but just a cheap waterproof material cover. Always meant to make a decent hard cover.
It came with a cover so I have that on, an ally one would be cool though.
Nice job but them rear tyres are too close to the mudguards
Nah there's loads of room
What thickness is the ally sheet
3mm
Sorry mate, on this side of the pond its called" ALOO - MIN - UM. lol
