My mechanic warned me how expensive the output shaft was. I avoided every slight dent in the road like the plague afterwards. Glad to know they really know their stuff.
I own an F30 and love these videos but even if I didn't I think I would watch them. I did follow your guide for the carbon fiber vinyl wrap interior. It turned out great. Not sure how you only have 42k subs.
Hey Brian I have a x1 35i with the same "new style" allen bolt CV joint and all I had to do is remove the two ABS sensors, the link to sway bar nuts and take off the four sway bar bolts. that's it. The half shaft comes out towards the front with the wheels turned max. On the passenger side, because the shaft is so long, you need to jack up the suspension so the half shaft can be taken out horizontal, that way it just clears. Keep up the awesome vids.
Hi. Its great video, but you can only replace the boot (BMW original) and put new grease after cleaning everything. In Poland this inner cv joint tripods are also available for 35 USD. I’ve made it in my F36 🙈
Hey just wanted to say thank you this video helped me alot today. Ended up not having to take of the caliper when I did it, but this video was a HUGE help and saved me alota monies!
Amazing . Perfect speed . Just what i like every step explained with great attention to detail . I have slight play up and down and was hoping to just change these tripple bearing and end by the whell.
Don’t forget that if you remove the inner side of lower control arm for this that when put it back on you tighten it up about 90 percent while in the air and when you set the car down finish tightening that up 100 percent
One more thing: since the suspension is still there and in the way you can't use the mallet technique to pop the CV back in. So I held the ball end with both hands and hit the inner part with it once it was properly started in the differential. The rubber booths keep the two ends apart and there is about an inch of play. That gives enough impact to pop the snap ring in place : )
Another quick tip if you dont have anyone to hit the brakes to torque axle nut then stick a screw driver through rotor vents and it will get wedged with the caliper and stay in place so you can torque the axle down i did this on my e46 too many times 😪
Another trick is to put the lug nuts/bolts back on, then place a prybar between two of them. Place a jack stand level with the prybar. It will keep the rotor from spinning
Looking forward to this. I had my axle replaced and rotors. Is it weird that everyone I reverse my bmw in a 90 degree angle I hear a weird noise because of it?
i broke that plastic piece and thought i could replace it . i dont see it on real oem listed as a part now im thinking it wasnt supposed to be broken if just changing cv boots, is there anyway to fix it?
I had broken right side outer Boot . It will be OK if I replace new Outer CV Joint only instead of whole new Front Axel ( with outer and inner CV Joint)?
Look at the axle boot on the output shaft, pull on the axle, you will see the joint separate inside the boot, now try pushing it back in, notice it will only mesh completely in certain positions. Rotate your brake disc, push again, and keep rotating till you can fully seat the axle. Now do that while trying to put your strut back in in a position where the cv joint cant be pushed in completely, hope that helps.

I did this job on my previous car. Getting the axle out was a PItA. I wish I had that oversized fork! Nicely done

Very helpful ... couldn’t ask for a better teacher
Can't wait for the rear wheel hub bearing or axle shaft DIY. Probably more involved than the front axle.
Just broke my rear passenger axle!

My axle keeps popping off after an accident. Its my 3rd front right axle. I barely drive it 10-15kms and it pops right out. Anyone has suggestions?
Something else is probably broke or bent
