It finally happened: we disagree about a figure, and I see your point. My brother and I came to GI JOE in late '87, and we couldn't find a BAT v1 for love nor money. V2 was our BAT because it was the one available. I love v1 design best, and you're right on all points about v2's faults, but there are a few important points to admire about v2. He can balance that ridiculous launcher on the end of his bent arm and still stand up! You can use them as walking missile launchers, and there's accessory storage. End of the day, I tend to be more forgiving of those faults because he was on the pegs when v1 was nowhere to be seen in my area. Top notch review as always.
When I was a kid you couldn't find a V1 BAT anywhere. I was happy when V2 came out, I had two which was something back then. I love the 2003 Troop Builder of this guy. It is the V2 body with the V1 color scheme. I picked up a bunch for my kids to use.
A Boston Dynamics robot with a gun isn't far fetched anymore. Especially as described in the version 1 file card, where they shoot at anything that moves, friend or foe. That aspect was lost in the cartoons and comics.
As a kid I imagined the BAT Mk1 as the tank of the line aka T-800. It was slower, heavy, and could run at a standard human pace if needed wasn't known for it's agility but was stronger than humanly possible and armored all to hell. It took some heavy weapons to bring one down. The Mk2 was the fast attack vehicle of the line less armored and could be taken down with concentrated Rifle fire, but that's if you could hit it. They were faster and more nimble even with the launcher. #CobraConvergenceV
I love this BAT his colours, weapons, shape of his helmet and faceplate and did I mention his colours I think the black, like green and orange go together very nicely I went out of GI JOE in 89 so I never knew about the BAT II until the early 2000s. Good timing for the review because on this same day I scored another BAT II (He's in the mail) Top tier figure for me 👌
I'd say that Flash was realy light-core sci-fi - his laser had backpack which at least showed that it needs a lot of power. If you consider filecard of Sci-Fi which states that Sci-Fi's lasser is more of an anti-materiel long range weapon and not a "pew pew pew" kind of laser gun (like in cartoons), which means that Flash's gun is the same (Sci-Fi's gun is developed version of Flash's gun), it is not that bad.
Wonderful, insightful and thoughrough reviewer. Great comedy, really look forward to watching all your videos. Keep up your great work. Really appreciate it!
Another gem video. While there is no wrong way to watch an HCC788 video, it is fun to stack them up by topic. This fits perfectly with the video 1 year before on the first B.A.T.S. All the video are always well done. P.S. I thought B.A.T.S. stood for "Bad Ass Tin Soldier".
Man, I loved this one. Though I was somewhat thrown when in the comic, Lady Jaye, Roadblock and (I think) Rock 'n Roll attacked the BAT production facility in 1993/4... And they were all Gen 1 BATs. Super eerie seeing that they actually had Terminator skulls under those helmets.
I think the reason why their orange and green is based off the fact Cobra May have accidentally stolen Nickelodeon design for a robot, instead of stealing it from a secret, military file weaponry.

It's funny you say that bat 2 looks like a guy in a suit. Nine year old me thought the same thing. I like it overall. Sure the neon is terrible, but it makes sense for the new BAT to be more streamlined than the early versions. I really like the version four the one guy showed off.
Version 1 is just the best but I do own the inferno bat and that’s where the version 2 shines; the gernade launcher always looked more like a blowtorch and the lack of clothes makes sense since they’re going to incinerate everything around them
I army build all of the BATs (mainly the v1...not so much since they surged in price), but i also troop build the v2, v4 and the Inferno BATs. The v4 look cool to me by combining the look of the v1 & v2 BATs. Plus they're pretty cheap to army build. All the different styles of collecting is what makes the toyline so cool.
@ David S-I share your view regarding SF & MK being a part of the GI Joe Universe. It gives Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow and Ninja Force a plethora of enemies and allies to contend with. Cobra has Night Creeper Ninjas and Strike Force. The Joes have Colonel Guile & Lui Kang and their comrades. Yo Joe!
