  • Today is International Women's Day, and so for our featured video for today, we shall take a look at an extraordinary family that is matrilineal, rather than the usual patrilineal, in descent. Thank you for tuning in to another episode of the Filipino Genealogy Channel. This is a brief narrative about the family of Teresa de la Paz Tuason Legarda. Her descendants are unique (or one of the unique ones) because their kinship is based on the female, rather than the male, line. The Tuason-Legarda-Prieto-Valdes clan identifies itself with this very small but strong lady.

Unfortunately the Tuason family name was pretty common throughout Luzon and not all were related, at least not very recently. Probably at some point in the distant past in China but not so much in the Philippines.

@@TheFILIPINOGENEALOGYChannel how was it common if it were the surnames of nobility?

@@TheFILIPINOGENEALOGYChannelTuazon is the common one, not Tuason. Filipinos were not allowed to take the name Tuason, when the Claveria degree was publish in 1849.

Tuason is not in the Catalogo, only Tuasun and Tuazon.
