    Excellent video. Hayter service agent said it was the gearbox and it would be £300 to fix. Now with your video and a few hours on the spanners, my Hayter 56 auto-drive is driving itself again. Well explained and really helpful thanks.

    I bought a hayter harrier 41 with a drive problem at an auction (very cheap) on the basis that i could fix it - followed this video and managed to connect everything up with new belts - mine has a spring which i attached using a spring puller goes on the little notch on the gold bracket - couple of pounds off amazon made the job so much easier- However it still wouldn't work - thought it might be the pulley itself so have bought a new one - whilst waiting for it to arrive i realised the the gold bracket in this video is different - it has an extra hole at the bottom - looking at a parts diagram this suggests the cable from the lever goes into this and controls the drive. brilliant video and gave me confidence to buy a second hand hayter - £37 pounds bargain - learnt so much about cleaning carbs as well from the other videos - i knew nothing about engines and have now found a new hobby - just got to make sure i don't keep buying old mowers

    No not the height adjustment bar, it’s a pulley on an arm that is fitted to the plastic under guard (I think) and it goes between the rear roller and the auto drive belt. Think it’s held in place by a spring shaped like a “V” I’ll try and find the marker where I saw it briefly in your other video

    • @aliray7833
      @aliray7833 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just worked out that the “jockey assembly pulley” attaches by a half bearing which clamps to the under guard. That’s held in place with a grip washer. But still can’t work out the orientation of the spring

    Just watched the service film. Very insightful and useful. I have a Hayter Harrier 41 Quantum from 1999, so similar age to one in your film. I had the mower serviced recently, although, being ignorant of what was actually done, other than a new spark plug, oil and a new blade, (which wasn't given a sharp edge), I am now wondering whether a proper job was done for the princely sum of £120! Since then it has started to surge. I shall check the air filter first but if this isn't the issue, what else could it be?

    Engine has no oil; at 1:57 you show us a honking, gunked-up oilly spark plug and say it's running lean. I only really know about 2-strokes - is that a sign of lean running in 4-strokes? On a 2-stroke lean running would give a white-ish clean plug with electrode wear. I'd say that's where the oil is going: into the cylinder! On 2 stroke it would be. I'm really confused. Thumbs-upped though.
