I find the excessive motion blur and bloom lighting just too aggressive to the point where it's off putting during races. If you could turn those off it would be the best way to play it, so the Xbox original is still my top choice, and that goes for all the burnout games during that console gen!
I don't know why but the first HD games often had shitty blur effect (for exemple the first assassin's Creed or collin mc rae dirt) and also had grey/yellow piss filters like gta IV or mgs 4. The games looked good why did they have to put filters like that. The pcsx look the best in my opinion.

I think maybe a lot of these devs on those early games got a little too carried away with the novelty of having all these fancy new programmable shaders/filters at their finger tips without much work due to the nature of the "then" more powerful hardware, with little to no added cost. Thankfully this trend didn't last long... It's a classic case of "just because you can (slap everything on and crank it to 11) doesn't mean you should". lol

Just as a heads up, you mentioned that the game running on the Xbox One through backward compatibility is exactly the same, this isn't exactly true. All Xbox 360 games running on Xbox One through BC tend to have a more stable framerate, dynamic resolution games will hit their max resolution more often (or at all times), 16x anisotropic filtering, and forced V-sync to decrease or eliminate Screen tearing. This may be subtle improvements but they do make a difference.
Yeah, despite this man doing these comparisons for years and clearly having some tech knowledge, really doesn’t provide very good comparison or accurate info. Like all his videos boil down to is “this car looks better. This door looks better. This anti-aliasing looks better” like where is the actual in-depth analysis like “this object is comprised of more polygons on this console. This version is using decals overtop the texture to add the impression of depth, this version’s shadows are lower resolution, this version’s got higher resolution textures, this one is using additional shaders”. Like his work is so basic and doesn’t help at all. I can listen to a Digital Foundry or NX Gamer video and get the gist while on a car ride. With this guy’s videos, I need to be looking directly at the screen to know what even is going on because he doesn’t say anything of value aside from “better” and “more detailed”

In my childhood I played it in PS2 and now, I got the 360 version and somethings don't feel the same. One of things is that, when you are in the CRASH MISSIONS they leave the music in the background, something that wasn't there is PS2 Version. It's just the sound of the car and destruction but with the music doesn't feel good. Also, when you finish CRASH MISSION, doesn't appear the cost of every car and that was in the original versions. I will still playing the 360 version to watch more things. Great video bro lml
Seeing the 2 extra cars you could unlock with a save game on the memory card just took me BACK!!! I played this so much when I was a kid and my dad at the time was also into Madden and had been playing Madden 06 around the same time I got Burnout Revenge, so I had that Madden Challenge Bus to use in crashes and it was so awesome and actually really good!!!!!! I also managed to unlock the other car the Dominator Assassin without even knowing how because I ended up getting Burnout 3 and some other burnout games to see what they were like because I remember Revenge was actually my first Burnout game I owned
There's a way you can get the PCSX2 emulator to look closer to actual hardware by running it with software rendering instead of OpenGL or DirectX. I sometimes choose this option for certain games.
Oh yeah! My first ever 360 game. Was to come with another racer but next day at pick up was this. I don't feel it pushed the 360 but hours of play online and I pleasantly surprised hearing its BC for my xox.
I think I used to play this on the 360 and man I don't remember the bloom and blurring being THAT intense, I wish we could disable those. I just ordered a copy to play on my Xbox One X though, so I'm still excited! I'm also surprised that I never had it for my PS2 when I was little, I was always a Playstation kid lol
If only this game had a remaster. Even if it was like the remaster for Burnout Paradise, it would still be better than having it riddled with lootboxes and pay walls. Oh well, at least we can now play the Xbox 360 version on Xbox One!
@@Cyberbrickmaster1986 - I don't see why _Burnout Revenge_ needs a remaster when the Xbox 360 version still looks good today. Even the original version of _Paradise_ still looks good, but hey I wouldn't say that _Paradise Remastered_ was a waste of money or a lazy remaster.
That blur and bloom on the 360 version is horrible which is a shame because the textures, draw distance and reflections are all better. I think the OG Xbox wins this one because it's more consistent, it doesn't have the details of the 360 but it also doesn't suffer from the PS2 downgrades. One of the only PS2 games that used PROPERLY the VU0 & VU1 and Emotion Engine difficult to program CPU. Impressive for a system 3.5 times weaker than the Xbox. It was a very great game back in the day indeed, and still is a joy to play (though i prefer the brilliant Burnout Paradise for PS3/360/PC/Xbox One/PS4)
I feel like there might be an issue with your capture card when it takes in a component input as the game should not look that blurry on PS2 and Xbox. My capture card does the exact same thing when capturing 480p over component. Everything comes out oddly blurry for some reason. Anyway, it's great to have you back Rookervision!
Just a protip, the visuals on the PCSX2 emulator are partially so raw because both the fog and lighting effects are broken/missing when playing in Hardware mode. Maybe someday an emulator that can retain these effects and still boost the resolution may exist.
you can already run burnout revenge with all the effects. you just need to do some code patching. unfortunately i only have made patches for a pre release version of the game. the sparks still don't have the full bloom effect
To be honest, I don't like the 'haze' effect on the Xbox 360. A couple of the later Need for Speed games did that too and I always thought that they looked terrible.

If you center the screen properly and don t wiggle it, you cut video's sides, so that you can t see things that you don t need and that may solve it. See you again...
There's also some differences in terms of cutscenes between the 360 and 6th-gen consoles, aside from the cleaner look of 6th gen and the rugged look of the 360. 6th gen had tutorials, 360 didn't. In the track intros, cars representing the location show in the 6th gen, 360 didn't or barely showed the representing cars. When unlocking cars, 6th gen uses different songs, in the 360, it is always Andy Hunter - Come On. 6 Gen had cinematic Rank Up cutscenes, 360 did not.
I wouldn't call it a bad port, rather it's more of how Criterion or EA (more likely the latter) wanted to present 360 version as a different game or something like "Check out this version".

I was hoping my original xbox disc would work but, no joy. I managed to get the 360 disc today for €4........it's still my favourite racing game of all time.
I absolutely LOVED the burnout series, more than the need for speed series. I was disappointed when there were no new burnout games for 1 decade. I absolutely loved the crash minigame, the closest thing I got was an Indy game I found on steam. I entirely played the burnout series on my psp and which soon caused the death of my psp.
Same for like how need for speed most wanted got sort of a remaster for x360 that honestly looked better and more detailed than the “base” pc version if u aren’t using graphics mods. Only thing that sucked about 360 version is it didn’t have a black edition, luckily I got it for og Xbox, second best in consoles, falls in 3rd place if u include pc version
I had the ps2 in those days. But I did buy an og xbox at some point for a short time. Then traded it in for a gamecube. But now I have them all. Which is awesome.
It's funny you say that. I wrote that in my script but never said it in the video. I played the game for 35 mins 6 times playing the same exact stuff and I never got bored.

I know the Og Xbox looks better than the Ps2, But i'm still more impressed by the Ps2 Version. PS2 was a lot weaker in its hardware but it doesn't really show.
The PS2 version will always reign supreme in my book, simply because they forced you to use those shitty trigger controls on the Xbox versions. Had they had the option to switch it over to using the joysticks for acceleration/braking like on the PS2, there would be no question that the Xbox versions were superior. Funny how something that simple can fuck everything up...

The missing fog on PCSX2 has to do with your emulation settings being incorrect, not upscaling the resolution.
And the correct settings are....?

You have to have a backwards compatible PS3 so basically it lets you play PS1 and PS2 games

So x360 is basicaly a slighty remaster of the game.. shame that they didnt remaster it in 2018 instead of Paradise City..
Same for like how need for speed most wanted got sort of a remaster for x360 that honestly looked better and more detailed than the “base” pc version if u aren’t using graphics mods. Only thing that sucked about 360 version is it didn’t have a black edition, luckily I got it for og Xbox, second best in consoles, falls in 3rd place if u include pc version
It need Burnout hd trilogy with takedown, revenge from orig xbox and paradise.
I didn't like Paradise due to the controls, and different physics/handling. Also no explosions. I wish they'd remaster Revenge one of these days..

I had the ps2 in those days. But I did buy an og xbox at some point for a short time. Then traded it in for a gamecube. But now I have them all. Which is awesome.

It's funny you say that. I wrote that in my script but never said it in the video. I played the game for 35 mins 6 times playing the same exact stuff and I never got bored.

Finally the Xbox 360 version looks best on the Xenia Emulator! Playing it at 1440p increases the sharpness quite some.

I know the Og Xbox looks better than the Ps2, But i'm still more impressed by the Ps2 Version.
PS2 was a lot weaker in its hardware but it doesn't really show.

The PS2 version will always reign supreme in my book, simply because they forced you to use those shitty trigger controls on the Xbox versions. Had they had the option to switch it over to using the joysticks for acceleration/braking like on the PS2, there would be no question that the Xbox versions were superior. Funny how something that simple can fuck everything up...
