Well my time has come to change my own cv axle, was wondering how many splines did the replacement one you bought has. On rock auto they have 2 options one with 27 and the other with 34
So far so good. I only have a couple thousand miles on them but everything is working great. I did need an alignment after installing them. The alignment shop said the toe was out pretty bad.
I'm from the UK. I have a 2010 S204 T Model rear wheel drive. Judging from what I heard from the video it sounded more like a knocking from your suspension. It doesn't take much of a pot hole to make the knock and bang. The same was happening on my car. Change your upper and lower track control arms both sides and the old girl will drive like a new bus. One of my lower ball joints was toast. The other was OK but if you do one side you do both. The upper on the right side the ball joint was OK but the metalastic bush was split from the outer bush tube. The left upper ball joint was good as was the bush but again, you do one side you do both. Let's face it, they were put on at the same time and have done the same milage. When doing the upper arms you have to remove the two bottom strut bolts and push the hub down to get the ball joint out. Annoying but a sad fact. 🤬
i replaced the cv axle in my 2010 mercedes c 300 and now i have a humming noise from the steering wheel when you turn the wheel happens in all gears and idle but gets louder when i turn the wheel
It sounds to me like the axle didn't get locked all the way into the splines. Maybe pull the wheel off and check to see if the axle is moving around or not
@@MarkGeorgeFantasticAdventures I was searching online and found out that I should check my fluids to see if I was low and sure enough my power steering was empty poured some fluids in and sound was gone but I appreciate the response and you’re video if I didn’t have a video I would not of had my cv axle replaced
I NEED HELP I AM GETTING THE SAME NOISE!!! HAPPENS ONLY WHEN TURNING SLOWLY IF IM TURNING AT HIGHER SPEED OR JERK THE WHEEL A LITTLE HARDER THAN NORMAL IT WONT MAKE THE NOISE. EXAMPLE WILL MAKE THE NOISE IF IM PARALLEL PARKING OR PULLIN OUT OF A PARKING SPOT LOW. ONLY HEARING THE NOISE COMING FROM THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL HUB.THE NOISE WONT HAPPEN IF IM CRUISING AT LIKE +10MPH AND MAKE A TURN. IVE ALREADY SWAPPED OUT SWAY BAR LINKS. WHATS NEXT??
i replaced the cv axle and still does it. Im thinking its the strut mount bearing at the top of the strut. Ive read that causes a noise as well. @@MarkGeorgeFantasticAdventures
@danielcastrejon1741 I recently replaced my outer tie rod ends and the creaking sound when I turn the wheel went away. I would have never thought the tie rod ends would make noise like that.
I usually go for the cheaper parts. Not the cheapest but I try to save money where I can. Just piecing it together to keep it on the road for as long as possible.
JUST DID THE SAME EXACT REPAIR AND HAD ALL THE SAME ISSUES. UPON REPAIR I HAVE THE SAME EXACT NOISE AS YOUR WHAT IS THIS PROBLEM DOES ANY1 KNOW?????? Replaced cv axle strut and sway link
Also update before I had no noise like this just a strange wobble and I inspected and saw 2 torn boots so I replaced the piece. Also switched my old strut out which wasn’t bad but did and switched it back. I now have the same exact noise. Has to be cv axle related so how I wonder what we messed up because now I have this noise over bumps
I suppose a junk cv axle could be the cause. When I first installed the new axle, I didn't have it locked all the way in. If you got it together but the lock ring wasn't completely locked in, I think that would cause these issues. Something to check.
@@MarkGeorgeFantasticAdventures I heard it click in seems like the lock ring is in place. What was your problem previous to the repair if you don’t mind me asking? Did you have that same noise
Cv axle one used should run 200-300 instead of $75-80 I’ll update and let you know. My car didn’t do that before so I’m almost positive it’s the cv axle this Chinese aftermarket ones suck
@@MarkGeorgeFantasticAdventures yea I have checked my tie rods they seem okay. Will update brother that was what else I thought it could be but being that I didn’t have the noise before I’m leaning toward the cv axle
Great video, thank you for taking the time.
I have the same car and doing the same job. Took my car from Alberta to Texas. I think the Canadian roads ruin the axels.
I had the same clunk and it was upper control arm. Fixed
Sir you awesome. Thankyou so much. Me and my wife subscribed you together today. ❤
Thank you for subscribing. I appreciate it and I'm glad you liked the video.
That clunk could be a drive shaft mine made that same noise on take off

I'm not sure. I didn't see that on anything. There was only one option for my axle.
Inner or outer tie rods?
How are those struts and axles working for you? I'm installing the exact same ones on my c350 today.
So far so good. I only have a couple thousand miles on them but everything is working great. I did need an alignment after installing them. The alignment shop said the toe was out pretty bad.
Dr google says it could be tie rod damage, power steering rack damage, or a failing strut/shock.
I think I'll just live with the klunk for a while. Lol

Thanks for all that great info Alec. At some point I think I'll just do an entire front end rebuild.

How was the ride ? Is it more bouncy?
I haven't noticed any difference really. Just no more noise.
Is the strut mount a part of the strut assembly?
Yes, you can buy the strut only but if you buy the whole assembly it comes with the spring and mount all together.

It sounds like a cv joint to me. You can get the whole axle with cv joint petty cheap and its not super difficult to change

Awesome! its getting warmer in chicago so Ill be tackling this soon. TY@@MarkGeorgeFantasticAdventures
Replaced my cv axle with oem no clunk. Not sure if was your issue but was mine.
I still haven't torn into mine yet. I'm thinking the rear spring bushings might be causing me some sounds. Eventually I'll do a video on that.
You are using cheap parts on your mercedes. They will not last.

Genuine Mercedes Benz part's don't last long either. Especially control arm bushings and ball joints
Same issue any comments would be awesome
