I am 5'10" on an FXLRS with the Saddlemen Explorer seat for size reference since that matters with figuring out buffetting issues. I have been lucky to get the Road Warrior to work for me with the 15" vented shield and tilted to the same angle as the front forks. I did leave the stock FXLRS fairing mount and the black plastic insert thing. I mainly left it for looks, but I have no idea if that is helping direct the air that is coming in through the vents and around the headlight up along the shield and over my head. Not sure if that makes sense without a picture.
Definitely agree with your analysis and results. I am 6’1” and I tried everything on my fat bob from the 17” to the 7”. Some vented, some not. All had buffeting just in slightly different areas and speeds. Especially because I like to run my visor open with sunglasses at times. Now I just run no fairing. Just easier with the clean air. At least I know I just ain’t alone lol.
Yeah man it’s frustrating!!! I don’t know how people use them. I feel like it produces buffetting for everyone and some people either just don’t care or are not as sensitive to it as others
I had the same problem with the memphis shades roadworrior. Got several windshields venter and not vented. Finally I tried the Cafe windshield and it is great now.
I’m also curious if the cafe one is the solution. I literally did the exact thing as the gentleman on the video and now I am back to no fairing on my 2018 street bob. Awful buffeting over 40-45mph
interesting i run the russwernimont fxrt faring with stock windshield, my seat is BMC widow maker set back 2". im 6' 1" and get zero buffeting. the seat is scooped out to get the 2" back. 2020 fxlrs.
I had the same buffeting problem as well and I got it figured out by trimming the top portion of the fairing off, this allows the air to come in from the vented windshield and eliminates the vacuum which causes the buffeting. I can send you pictures if I know where to send.
Can you send a private message, your idea makes sense and the fairing is blocking the vents which I did think it’s pointless to have vented windshield if it’s blocked by the fairing.
@RidinDad He shaved down the lip on the fairing "behind the (vented) shield" not the shield itself. That lip blocks direct/straight airflow from the vents.
Yupp. My bad. I didn’t even pay attention to the wording. That’s a good idea. If I still had it I would try it. I might do this sometime in the future with this fairing again. Thanks for the clarification too!
I agree with your assessment. I would rather have the wind on my chest than on my helmet and I do not like the look of a large shade. For safety purposes I prefer to see the entire road surface and not be looking through a windshield. I may try the Memphis Shades Club Fairing to redirect some wind and for looks. Have you tried the Club Fairing? I own a Harley Davidson 2023 Street Bob.
Get a MRA X-creen sport winddeflector added to your windscreen. It will completely remove your buffeting. I have run that setup with 11" road warrior for allmost 5 years with 0 issues.
I just watched a video about a guy who had the same problem. He has the same Memphis faring u have and tried different size windshields. What he did was get a cafe style Memphis windshield that sets a little lower on the faring and has a different curve to it so it pushed the wind out around him enough that it stopped the buffering. Might try that.. it also looked good. I have ‘23 fxlrs also and run stock faring with my handlebar tool bag that blocks some wind on my chest, that works for me.
Glad I ran across this. i like the look of my lowrider now but thought to add some wind protection. I would have hated to spend 500 bucks on something that wouldnt work.
I had the same issue on my street bob. I tried like 5 different sizes windshields on the Memphis shades and it buffeted on every one for me to where it was like unrideable. Vented and non vented didn't make a difference. I ended up moving to a Lowrider ST and haven't had any buffeting issues with that fairing at all.
In the video I spoke about all the different vented windshields I tried. If you mean the fairing base itself I don't think that would matter as its so low compared to the windshields
Im 6'2" riding a dyna on a Saddlemen SDC. 17" road warrior all the way rocked back helped which put the wind screen about at the bridge of my nose. I didnt find the vents to make any difference on a 13" wind screen
If you want to give it another go, I recommend a 15" shield and having it pushed up and forward to the maximum limit. I'm 5'6 and have no buffeting on 99% of scenarios. Only on super windy days I feel it.
@@RidinDad I'm haven't finished the video yet but when I did mine, the biggest results I noticed were from a different helmet. (You opened the video with helmets) I used to wear a NEXX XR2 and it shook so hard with the buffeting. I switched to the AGV K6 and it eliminated it. I could not figure it out with the NEXX, I was getting worried I'd have to get rid of the fairing. I use the 11" vented. I almost got rid of it but needed a new helmet anyways and I guess got lucky with the K6. I'm 5'7" with a 32ish inseam. Saddlmen seat and the thrashin risers 9.5" pull/stock bars.
@RidinDad that's rough man. Like I said I know how you feel. It's frustrating. The "naked" look is good. People get hung up on the fairings too much I think. They help a little and look nice but naked is a classic. (Obviously)
I understand this guy’s point of view. As he says, you can live without a fairing in FL if you are not riding interstate all the time (which just wears you out without a shield) In my experience, and after seeing lots of posts by taller riders, it’s hard to find a shield or fairing setup for a 6’+ rider that doesn’t buffet unless you are ok with a really tall screen you have to look through and not over. This might be because as you push up windscreen height, you are disrupting more and more air. That in turn creates more vacuum behind the shield and more buffeting. Even with fork fangs, any shield I can see over creates a little buffeting so it just feels better to leave the screen in the garage.
Have you ridden an ST? I was pretty surprised at the rider pocket that fairing creates. And, companies are already starting to do aftermarket versions.
I'm the guy who suggested the spacers, it wasn't me who installed them, it was my Harley shop/mechanic who does custom builds and he did it for me and said will work (installed the spacers for free, as he was moding my FXBB), I can show you the pictures when I get it back from being painted in about 2 weeks, as he noticed a slight paint defect. It looks pretty cool as well.
Try the windshield option - speed demon, rio grande from Memphis shade. You will also need lowers from Memphis shade. I used another brand - Puig and it worked excellent. The con is it was handlebar mounted ( loose space on handlebar).
Always enjoy your videos great job. I kind of agree with you, I actually like the original fairing in my FXLRS. I wonder how the Baja light would look with it.
Thanks! And it can’t be done. Slightly bigger than the opening. That’s why you never see it lol You could do an lp4 super easy but then it would look weird and tiny
Love all your videos and they have helped me on a few installs, but the one thing your fairing videos have taught me, is to never upgrade the stock fairing haha
Lol yeah man 100%. I didn’t love it but it didn’t block a ton of wind. I love the look of all the ones I’ve tried but they don’t work at all for me lol. I don’t understand how people get them to work for them man
Im 5'9 on a Road King Special. I run fork deflectors and a Road Warrior fairing with a 15 inch vented wndshield. Still some buffeting but it doesnt affect me too much. I feel no buffeting when i wear an SOA style Crazy Al's helmet.
Dude. Going through the same thing. I’ve adjusted and tinkered with my OG fairing with 15” windshield for a week now. Original Garage recommend me getting a 12inch windshield as they think the wind is going over my head and hitting the back of my head creating the buffeting… but I’m having my doubts now after watching this. Have you tried a quarter fairing?
Hi man, since you tried it all I just wanted to ask you if a ROAD WARRIOR fairing would fit over a MOONSMC headlight bucket (I believe you had experience with an amazon fax similar) ? I was thinking to get both for my low rider s, using the fairing for the colder days and have a clean look in summer. What do you think?
I’m 5’10” on a 23’ Softail Std with a Saddleman step-up and 13” works for me and a 15” would probably be even better but I can cruise 80mph on highway and not get any of that Buffeting. It’s weird how it’s so different across the board for everyone.

@@RidinDad what you could try if you didn’t sell it.. I made a small bushing to go between the top two bolts between the fairing and the mountain bracket. Made it possible to get the fairing even more straight up. Made it a bit better
With the small shield, you will get buffeting. I'm from FLA, living in Washington State, out here if you ride year round, a windshield is something I had to get used to.
@Ridin Dad on my Road King Special, I put on 20 " HD windshield, it's good, and my Streetglide ST a 14" Clockworks, same. But on my 1200 Roadster Sportster the Mohawk directs the wind in my upper chest. There is no escaping it on short shields. Enjoy the spring weather while you have it!
No it’s not…..I stead of buying another $100 windshield I taped the vents to block the air to try it out and see if it worked. If it worked I would have bought the solid windshield obviously

Dude, at this point, you should just adapt the Road Glide fairing to your bike an be done with it. Not only does it look freakin' sick, it has zero buffeting especially with a Klock Werks windshield.
@@RidinDad True. It's just so large though that I can't imagine it wouldn't work for you. Dudes much larger than you and I ride road glides all day without issue. Yeah I’ve seen it. But it’s not frame mounted which I don’t like. And honestly at this point, I just want to call it a day with bearings. And I’ve written a road glide before and had bad when issues with that in stock configuration as well.
@@RidinDad No, I mean this dude: th-cam.com/video/3CTFPx08KjY/w-d-xo.html It's frame mounted and it's done so with a fairly simply fabricated neck mount that doesn't require drilling. But I get it. You've spent a huge amount of money and are probably very frustrated that you couldn't completely get rid of the buffeting. I hope you're able to find something in the future that helps!
I had the same issue.. But then I added lower fairings. I promise the buffeting will disappear. Also the vented windshield for the road warrior makes the buffeting worse
I taped up the vents on all the sizes I got. In my opinion, the lower fairings and look absolutely terrible with a smaller faring like this, so I would never run them. Even if they did help the wind issues. It’s not worth it to me to have them on because I do not need a faring to begin with. Literally never had one on a bike, my entire life up until experimenting with this bike and I’ve written many hours in miles in a day so I can live without it lol.
@@RidinDad I switched to the Biltwell Lanesplitter and the buffeting improved but it's still bad enough that I'm considering not running this fairing anymore. I'm on my third windshield too.

The only issue with that fairing is the no guaranteed fitment on the LP6. Maybe the dude could fab a bracket for it though? He's super open to new things and working with people.
Yeah I’ve seen it. But it’s not frame mounted which I don’t like. And honestly at this point, I just want to call it a day with bearings. And I’ve written a road glide before and had bad when issues with that in stock configuration as well.
@@RidinDad No, I mean this dude: th-cam.com/video/3CTFPx08KjY/w-d-xo.html
It's frame mounted and it's done so with a fairly simply fabricated neck mount that doesn't require drilling.
But I get it. You've spent a huge amount of money and are probably very frustrated that you couldn't completely get rid of the buffeting. I hope you're able to find something in the future that helps!
That looks so ridiculously huge lol
my struggle with the road warrior is how much it ends up leaning back, I have the thrashin gauge and it hits the hell out of it at 60+
Sounds like it’s just not adjusted properly and tightened enough.
I found the problem! Hot women bring more problems and you, you know where this is going! Makes sense!
😂😂😂😂
Try 15 or 17 inch
No. Way too tall. Even the 13 was starting to be in my line of site. You’re not supposed to look through ut
My buffeting stopped when I started wearing a Simpson helmet
Yeah I tried a Simpson helmet too with another fairing. No difference
@@RidinDad I switched to the Biltwell Lanesplitter and the buffeting improved but it's still bad enough that I'm considering not running this fairing anymore. I'm on my third windshield too.
That sucks man! Idk how some of us can just pop on any fairing and it work flawlessly
@@RidinDad I'm sure it genuinely works for some people, but I suspect a lot of people tolerate the buffeting cause it looks so damn good.
Yeah I know some people who do for sure. I also thing some people aren’t as sensitive to it as others and just get used to it overtime too. For me, the slightest bit pisses me off lol
Lookup Firecreek windbender...you'll thank me later 😢
I checked the site. Doesn’t seem like it would fit nicely.
Just get a spyder at this point lol
Yeah makes total sense…..
11 inch windshield
Did you even watch any part of this? I bet not since I explained I had tried an 11 inch in addition to the 7 and 13……
To tall for road warrior ! 5,9 with 11” shield no problems
I tried shorter and taller than 11 so that’s not the problem
Sad news haha but oh well at least now u no. Guess this why harley makes a road king
Agreed!!
Dude , i get that you want views but topic is misleading . No usable info on buffeting . Your naked bike setup is grate , but WTF?
lol what are you even saying? It was literally all about buffetting and what I have tried and my results
Topic is not misleading at all. Was it titled: this is what I did to fix buffetting? No, no it wasn’t
Just drive ur car than .
Oh wow. Big brain comment from you Sir
Hey i will buy tne road warrior fairing from you? How much@RidinDad and will it fit 2020 street bob?
It’s sold man. Sorry!
Idiotic comment
Seems like only the OEM Low rider st fairing can midgate the buffeting
Never test rode one. But I have low hopes for me. Road glide and street glide also give me buffetting bad too
Try the lowrider st! I have tried a bunch of diffrent fairings on my dyna and also tried other bikes with fairings. Then i testrode the st and now its on the top of my wishlist. 👌
That’s interesting!!
@ridindad ill buy
It’s sold already
