    Having bought my S4 at 40k miles and had it serviced regularly, looked after it with complete respect I can vouch for the fact that when the car reached 100k miles on the clock pretty much everything packed up, aside from the block I have pretty much done everything, top end, front end, now on its 4th cam belt, radiator, all hoses and fuel lines, thrust bearing, transaxle bearing, auto trans, cost me a bomb, now its the most sweetest ever, better than factory

    Owned a 1985 - 928S for 13 years. My important contribution to your video is that there is an ever-growing group of enthusiasts of the 928 out there. This means easy to access repair information and used parts too. Stay away from Porsche parts and dealerships like the plague. Just because you can find a 928 for pennies on the dollar, Porsche parts from Porsche are still priced as they were when the car was new and stickered for that 40K. The best owners of 928's are enthusiasts with a genuine love for the car. At that age they definitely need semi-routine maintenance, upgrades and repairs. I even see some cracked rubber in the engine bay of your car ;)

    My 1986 Porsche 928 5 speed odometer stopped @164000 miles in 2004 and my EPDM timing belt / water pump/ tensioner/ rollers were replaced 20 years ago still running strong. Actually it is one of the most reliable cars after my Toyota Matrix. I do my own car repairs and service and my tiny folding e-bike fits in the rear.

    I agree! I love owning rare cars like thus vs newer cars. A lady in my neighborhood bought a new Mayback SUV. Most people wouldn't even know it's an extremely expensive SUV. Won't turn many heads. A 928 would!

    Cool review brother! I'm 63 and have always had a side interst and curiosity about the 928.. it looks so unusual and has that exotic vibe about it.. and then theres the v8! I knew they were guzzlers but never thought they were as bad as 10mpg! Thats kinda mind bending! may as well have a small hole in ur tank leaking fuel when its drinking it that hard! Its the repairs and parts availability and cost on these that kept me from ever pulling the trigger... I still admire them from afar though!

    That car's in great shape for its age and 163k miles!
    I owned a nearly identical 1980 and finally sold it in the late 90's with 220k miles. Spent as much maintaining it as buying it (used). Can't imagine trying to keep it on the road now 25 years later!

      Thank you! It must have been a blast owning that car putting all those miles on it and having it back when they were still being made. Yours is the first transmission I've heard of going wrong. The auto isn't any less reliable than the manual. It's a Mercedes derived box and unless it's had hideous amounts of abuse and lack of maintenance they're rock solid.

    • @G928...
      @G928... ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd have agreed 20 years ago, but now the seals and o'rings have hardened, so it typically leaks externally and internally pressures are reduced. Plus at 40 years and 150k miles the bands and frictions will be worn. If a 928 is still on it's original un-rebuilt auto then pretty much all of those need a refresh.

    Okay, as a current '88 928 S4 owner with the large single spoiler, when you raised the trunk and the two side-spoiler pieces stayed put, I was surprised! Had no idea! I like the black edging around the front lights. if I had a 928 when I was 17yo, I wouldn't be typing this now,, 'cause that 6-foot hood would've put me 6-foot under! If an Arkansas black 928 opens it up on the empty highway in front of you...not it didn't! And last, for you 911-owners: us 928-enthusiasts have 17 more!
