    Some additional tips to anyone looking to assemble their Fanatec Porsche 911 GT3 R Podium wheel kit. Some things to do different from this video: 1) The small paddles should be attached the opposite way to shown in this video so they sit farther from the rim. 2) You should use the spacers to bring the large paddles closer to the wheel rim. This way the paddles are easier to reach and it is easier to manipulate the different paddles as they are offset distance wise from the rim. 3) When attaching paddle wires to the hub, use the cut out holes on the top, not on the sides. It will be a much cleaner look wires-wise. Also, FYI: I just received two sets of the Advance Paddle module and the carbon is now 3 mm thick.

    I have the podium shifter kit on my F1 rim and the paddles are solid. I've never had an issue with mine in over a year of heavy use, despite them being thin. Because of the magnetic actuators and short throw you don't put the kind of lever force on them that would weaken them. The original shifters were much easier to yank on too hard and on my original Formula Carbon rim I have absolutely bent the metal shifting plates on accident.

  • @momorious
    @momorious 4 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    Barry, you forgot to use the spacers on the APM Paddles for easier distinction between the upper and the Shifter Paddles. Also, the upper Paddles should be mounted from the back, not from the front (which already gives a slight gap for distinction between the Paddles so you don't accidentally push the wrong Paddle, especially when driving in VR and with Gloves).
    The cables of the APM should be as deep in the Podium Hub as possible, it's fitting well so no reason to not push the cable all the way in, looks much better and it doesn't popping out ;)

    • @simracinggarage3026
      @simracinggarage3026  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Spacers were not used because I did not want the paddle reach staggered. Muscle memory works well enough for me. But yes that is an option. Stuffing the thick cables against the PCB to take up the slack certainly is an option. But I would rather not take a chance of any cable rubbing on the PCB. The way the BME covers that part of the APM and captures the cables will keep them in place quite nicely.

    • @ErnieGaming
      @ErnieGaming 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Agree with the small upper paddles. I've mounted them from the back to get a little extra gap to the GT paddles.
      And i think it's the way it meant to be mounted. Upper paddles from the back, GT paddles from the front.

      I would like for paddles to be 1mm thicker and smaller paddles somehow easier to reach. I don't know why, but this replica doesn't have quality and durability written on it on the first sight. I don't like Fanatec their brand name everywhere possible and their support isn't something to write home about. ... Still searching for a new wheel... Since the rim as a “stand alone” product gets a recommendation it would have been interesting to see how an Ascher button box worked with it.
    The competing teams right now when it comes to new higher-end gear seems to be Fanatec DD vs Simucube 2. So this rim with a SC2 compatible button box like the wireless one from Ascher could be a very interesting product for many!?

I currently have a momo 350mm deep dish for nascar, drifting and regular road cars, 320mm for performance street and exotics. Completing my ‘end game’ set with a formula rim, is 250mm to small or would a 270mm be a better compromise? 🤔🤔🤔

      @@basementracer I have the V3's sadly not the inverted version. I've spent a lot of time getting the correct feel - for me - by using the various polyurethane inserts. All my kit is Fanatec which is why I've stuck with their handbrake and H-pattern shifter, I like the simplicity of everything plugging into the DD1. On the very rare occasion it gets plugged into a console, so there's another reason. Now, if I was in your position I'd be going all out. Yes Fanatec's pedals are fine and I've them as close to one of my IRL vehicles as possible, but looking at Barry's setup there are so many choices and if I had the money I'd be grabbing those sexy Wave Italy Imola's. I mean for a motion rig you've got to get the best. Like I said, Fanatec's are perfectly fine, but honestly I think there are many better. I wish I could be of more help. I have the exact wheel combo in this video. My stuff is brand new and only two weeks old. During multiple races it would just stop working. It still had power but nothing worked. I added dialectic grease to the pins and all connectors and haven’t had the problem since doing that. I think this is something you should look into on your show as this is a BIG problem for many Fanatec owners. It’s a very cheap and simple fix. For one, why is it happening and two why did dielectric grease fix it?! Check it out. Thanks

    The wheel as a whole package is gorgeous as hell, there's no denying. Aesthetically especially, Porsche fanboy here!
    But i'm not a huge fan of the Fanatec quick release system and what i've seen in various reviews of the podium DD system, the amount of play and wobble in the connection is worrying. I wish someone would make an adapter to have this wheel work with a simucube 2 wirelessly, with the simucube dovetail-style mount or a Q1R . At least my simracing future for now looks like a Simucube 2 instead of a Podium DD, which is a shame, since i've drooled over this wheel since it was unveiled.
    And maybe someone has an adapter made or in the works, but my knowledge on these matters is still too incomplete. But all this thinking might be hoping for nothing..

      Z-Ring = no wobble. Yes it has wobble from the factory. No it should not be sold with a wobble. Print/buy Z-Ring. Install. Problem solved.

      Youre better off with the Simucube 2 mate. Plenty of wheel and button setups out there. I know fanatec has been hitting it hard these past 2-3 years to get that market share and theyve been releasing some great products but I think you can easily get something similar like this for your Cube. The one thing I dont like about fanatec even though I own their stuff, is the fact they nickel and dime their customers with their whole "Eco system". With the money I spent on a CSL Elite Setup I could have just got a Simucube if I was patient and pad the little bit extra. Its like buying a motorcycle, get the one with more power because if you get the slow one to learn on youll grow out of it quick and want to upgrade shortly after.

      @@iamjamen I saw Barry review that on this channel too, and it seemed to eliminate alot of the wobble out of the system which seems like a very goof add-on. But it didn't seem like a "rock solid connection" even after that. Yes, i'm being really anal about it but at that price point especially, i would expect more rigidity out of a DD system. Maybe if fanatec would redesign their wheel mount system to include something like the z-ring in metal, then i would probably consider it seriously.

    Amazing review, but i have one question: Can you test the compatibility with Clubsport Wheelbase v2.5, do the buttons still work and shifters? Would like to know, as always thanks for review and your work.

    • @momorious
      @momorious 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can find all this information by using Google or have a look at the Webshop page. For now it is ONLY working with the Podium DD Bases. Other Bases need a firmware update to get compatibility which is coming later this year. So, no, it's not working with a CSW v2.5 atm.
      But, because you asked, the shifters are working because only the Button Module is not compatible yet.

    @Sim Racing Garage hi Barry, There is a set with the same rim and podium bottom module endurance but with the universal hub. Could you please tell me if there's a benefit to get podium hub over universal hub for 100 €/$ more. I want to buy this set but can't decide between podium and universal hub. Thanks in advance.

    • @TrAcHannuzz
      @TrAcHannuzz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Universal hub comes with the standard shifters of the uni hub, so if you want better shifters a magnetic paddle upgrade will cost you 99dollar/euro making it a price of 650dollar/euro so actually if you want the podium paddles its the better deal with the podium hub because you get the podium paddles already in the deal so you save 80dollar/euro taking that one.
      I have heard though that the magnetic paddle shifter upgrade of 99dollar/euro is actually stiffer then the podium paddle shifter upgrade so it’s totally up to you if you want the extra paddles or not.
      Hope this helped you in any way and good sim racing !
      ( I’m looking for the same wheel at the moment so glad to share the knowledge)

    i love your info mate you have made some of my buying decision easy, i am stuck on now to factors do i get the fanatec eco system or buy the simucube dd and get v3 peddles from fanatec and then what i am confused on is there way to hook up say fatantec wheels to the simubue dd base. cheers if anyone can share some info on it

    • @berrydex
      @berrydex 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe you can get Fanatec wheels to work on Simucube but it needs permanent cable between the steering wheel (Clubsport or Podium hub) and the PC (And a Fanatec - Simucube adapter ofcourse). As for the Podium wheels I think a lot of the functions of the wheel will NOT work. If you like the rims go for Fanatec, that is what I did. Even though I initially was looking for Simucube. But I was also already in Fanatec ecosystem.

    • @MrFrosty888
      @MrFrosty888 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Explosivefibers yeah I am not in that eco system at all but I do like the v3 peddles and shifter and handbrake. But over all thoughts on dd wheels sc2 seems to be the option I might go if I end up with dd base. I am weighing it up as it’s looking more n more like arm and leg just to get what Eva setup really. That said my mind keeps telling me it’s sc2 I want.
