Looks like an incredible wheel, Dave! Can't wait to see future videos with it! I always admire your content and enthusiasm for the sport! Hoping one day to race against you!
Came into the comments to see if anyone mentioned the spacers. I think the spacers go on the smaller paddles at the top, I remember Barry from SRG had the same issue when he did his review as he wasn't aware that was the purpose of the spacers
For me this is the best wheel I’ve used. The size, button layout and display make it for me. After your last vid I did comment saying to get one of these. Can I claim that I’m the reason lol.
Ha! Just did the exact same thing today. Enjoying the wheel so far, be sure to use the chrome screw that came with the hub, it eliminated a lot of wheel wobble for me.
The allen screws can back out and cause wheel wobble. If that is what your talking about. You can solve that. When you install the wheel screws. Snug them down in a star pattern. Just snug . Tap around the perimeter of the wheel. Then tighten down again with a little more torque. Tap on the wheel again and tighten down the allen screws again in the star pattern. Keep doing this till the screws dont move. The screws will be properly seated and you shouldn't need lock tight or anything like that.
Dave.. I have the advanced paddle module on my R300 wheel. I used the spacers on the plus/minus shifter paddles to ring them a little closer and then flipped the upper shift paddles to the back side and that gives plenty of clearance to easily differentiate them.
Thanks Dave great to see you doing product reviews/unboxings/setup/build - nice to see your thoughts, and looks like a great rim, but wow Fanatec like packaging separate modules don't they. More like this please Dave!
Cool video Dave. I was hoping you would get one. I got mine when they went on preorder. I'm sure once you get it all dialed in your going to absolutley love it. Cheers !
Awesome video, and what a gorgeous looking rim. Would love to hear your DD1 settings once you've had the time to properly dial it in, and what / if any changes done from the formula - would be most appreciated.
Hey man, just to give ya something to think about. My kids are 11 and 14 now. I got a full racing simulator and my biggest stress is keeping my son out of trouble so he's allowed to use it :P When my youngest was 2, I was racing on a G25 I was obnoxiously fortunate enough to get discounted while working at a computer repair store. Keep at it. To be 100% though, pedals are the biggest factor in making the next step in skill. Get CSL elite pedals w/ loadcells and a basic G920 / g29, g25/ Thrustmaster TX etc wheel and you'll be able to compete with Dave here :P
@@ryanw1284ryansrants sounds good mate, give your son something to focus on. I've got a g29 and a decent rig which feels ok for now. Next step will be the csl like you mentioned. My breaking is pretty good with the g29 standard one, can't wait to use a proper load cell. I know I'll be so much faster with it. The DD base is a pipe dream ATM haha
@@heisenburg8608 I've tried the CSW 2.5 and DD2. If you are not wanting high FFB, its really just finer and more responsive details. I doubt even a pro driver would be more than a tenth faster on the DD2 over even the csl elite. However, they would be able to better feel slides and thus make more consistent saves. All that being said, I love my DD2 and would never go back lol.
I want one of these wheels so bad. But i think i would go for the new magnetic shifters instead of the APM if i do. If im driving a Porsche GT i dont see a use for the dual clutch or additional shift paddles. Also, you put the top paddles on backwards. Those ones are supposed to screw in from the back like the formula paddles. It will space it out a little and also give you more surface area when you use it.
Vincent Santucci That wheel (Fanatec's rim) seems to be a replica af the Momo MOD30 used on the real-deal Porsche. Fanatec made it cheaper likely through material changes and a strategic material reduction by making the "dish" metal thinner. And that's fine since it isn't going to steer a real-deal car. But, theory goes, you could build your own. It'll cost a bit more but, at the end of the venture, it'll work on any base.
@@toddlynch7282 interesting info but not sure how that relates to my comment. I was just pointing out that the Fanatec wheel is in fact larger than the Cube wheel, just as Dave said it felt though he thought they looked the same initially.
Hope you have a solid quick release on the podium hub which is not topquality (lots of wobble) as I have experienced, I am switched over to another brand base and wheel.
Do the thread locker, Dave. I built myself a custom wheel earlier this summer and didn't, and it decided to come loose at Indianapolis! LOL If you can get Vibra-tite in the UK, it's worth the effort to find it, a NASA friend turned me on to it years ago, and it's fantastic!!
You did not put the separators, the one that fell to the floor is for the large paddle shifts so they are closer to the steering wheel and separated from the small paddle
I have the 918 wheel. Love it but would rather it have the podium shifters for sure as I have those on my Formula rim and love them. Might pay for the magnetic shifter upgrade. I don't think you are a sellout. Fanatec get's a lot of grief but in nearly a year with my DD1 I'm still very happy. Love the rims for sure. Other DD bases it was not easy to figure out what worked with it and how while with Fanatec it's all very clear and simple and looks better to be honest.
Purchased one of these in early August as part of a mega Fanatec splurg..... Extremely happy with the quality of everything EXCEPT the 2 mm carbon fiber paddles which feel very flimsy. There seems to be a cottage industry on eBay of people selling better quality 3 mm paddles at a very reasonable £20 (available in various patterns including blue, red, and gold). Would be interested in your thoughts.

I've found I need to adjust FFB on the DD2 accordingly with bigger rims to keep ffb at that peak strength point before it starts messing with your driving. I learned this the first time i did a few laps on the Esports (formula sized) rim right after having my NASCAR Lenkrad rim on. 90% FFB in fanalabs and 6-7 in iracing was far too strong lol. I'm curious how it makes up for the lack of built in wheel FFB is compared to the BMW wheel I have. Have you ever used to compare? I'm assuming like the nascar wheel it doesn't have built in FFB? Perhaps I'm wrong.
