Yeah you should have bored a hole into the mount as an umbrella is the fastest and easiest diffusion option when stacking them together. A scrim diffusion would be nice as well but I never saw anyone try this or is even remotely interested in that array mode. Maybe support our fellow filmmaker to try and test this out? Im really interested to see how the shadows are cast.

Just heard about this light, and gotta say little disappointed about the lack of the LED protection. If I were to get one, I would design and 3D print myself a better and more robust protector cover I could slip over it. And at the very least it should have an actual piece of glass covering the LED at all times.
I do like the idea of stacking them together though, thats interesting. But then it eliminates the ability to use the mount? Perhaps that needed to be thought through more in the design phase, like maybe making the mount just attach at the front of the light, instead of going around the body of the light??

i would suggest making the protector cover use able.. what i mean is make it as 2 in 1..protector and also deffuser for the led in case if someone will use it

Great review-- I think you covered all of the real issues of the light. I bought one several months ago, and then two more. At this price you really can't beat the construction. Also, three linked together can fit into one carrying case (along with their power bricks) making it incredibly portable for 2-3 point lighting on the go. I DIY'd an umbrella mount using a hotshoe adapter, a washer (because hotshoe plates are just a hair too small for the slot) and a 50-cent cable clamp. With this you can have two or more lights in the umbrella.

Thank you for your thorough reviews and workarounds. I just picked up a used Neewer SL60W (identical to the Godox from what I see) and am looking forward to putting it through its' paces. As far as one of the shortcomings of the SL60W, the inability go below 10 percent - just pick up some ND (neutral density) gels. Rosco, Lee, and other generics are available in various strengths. You have to do the math for what you want to achieve, but with a constant light, you can just eyeball it as well. If you want some real fun, pick up a Mole Richardson Molette - it's a tungsten bare bulb 1K fixture (they also made a 2K), and it blasts light! I have a couple of those - a real gel melter! And you'll get thank you letters from the power company...

Good info, I wondered about that little Colbor light. It’s such a hard price point, you add another $40-$50 to your budget and you get into a number of other possibilities, seemingly with less issues. The lack of protection on the LED does seem a pretty significant omission.

Markus Pix has given a runaround solution for umbrella by using the hotshoe adapter & godox AD200/300s light stand mount (AD-E2).

The portability of the Colbor CL60M is incredible. It is sad that there is no possibility to put the umbrella.
I'm still breaking my head thinking about some adaptation or possibility of using it with an umbrella.
An excellent competitor of this Colbor is the YONGNUO YNLUX100. Same price range (sometimes cheaper costing a whopping $100) with really cool design and a bit more power with the 100W light.
But looking at the reviews, you can see that the way the Bowes adapter fits the entire body of the Colbor is unbeatable. In the YONGNUO YNLUX100 the fitting is frontal but the body of the led is all in plastic. A modifier of 90cm is the maximum limit. But at least it has umbrella support.

Oh dear, so close. NATO rails, if that is what they are, solve the lost mount problem and if anything are more flexible. No LED protection is a complete no no for a professionally used light. It's too vulnerable, not only in use but also in storage. It's the single factor that would stop me buying it. I'm not so worried about CRI etc and the low fan noise is really important to me and very welcome. Maybe a mark 2 released soon would be a very good marketing move. I'm a bit confused what you mean. Are you asking if people show it being used in production or if there are folks who talk about gear they've used for a long time and the best things to know about that gear based on all that experience?

    • @jamesburton1050

@@FellowFilmmaker people that use this type of gear a lot, and the best things to know about the gear based on their experience. How they travel with it, tricks they've learned, what brands hold up to heavy use, etc. Along the lines of a channel such as Gaffer and Gear, but more in the field, as well as closer to your level of experience.

I bought the Colbor RGB light and was thrilled until... it became a BRICK!!! In order to be able to use the app, you need to update it using the Edgemax App. The app us in Chinese and the Android version just kept going into a communication loop. Unfortunately, once i tried the update, there was ni going back. The light will no longer function. I contacted Colbor. Colbor told me that the Android app would not work, only the Apple app. WTH! Anyhow, now i have a brick, unless one of my friends with an Aplle phone will let me try updating with the Edgemax app on thier iPhone. Also, there is a cheap color scheme chart sticker on the back of the Colbir that is peeling off of the light. Really disappointed. I was ready to buy more Colbor and suggest to my whole office. Im Moving to Godox, then maybe Aputure.

The colbor cl60 rgb flickers at 5600k when battery powered by npf batteries. making it unusable for video shoots.

It was a bit more of a review for the Colbor since I've not talked about it on the channel before and since the Godox has been out a long time I figured many had heard of its features before :)

Did I see that right? the SL60W is MUCH dimmer at 10% than the CL60M is at 1%? - seems maybe the Colbor are lying about it being 1% and it's more like 20% in reality? - seems it also goes brighter at 100% too though.

Too bad you started talking so quickly and also cut out all the breathing space. Your earlier videos were much easier to follow and don't make me feel so rushed either. It's hype, but I don't think you need it at all. Or do you all have stressed followers 😀 I would also do a little more research. However, I understand the time pressure, but better a little later with the right information.
I have now purchased the Colbor because of the USB power bank option. However, this is not an ordinary USB-C, but a 20Volt connection. And calculate 5Volt on 60Watt. That is 60/5=12 amps!!! Fortunately I have the V-Mount version. I bought a V-Mount plate and use it together with 2 large NP-F970 batteries. At 100% you then have more than 1 hour.
I hope to have helped you and the followers with this. And on the road for a burnout. Hasty speed is rarely good, people said in my youth 😉 Keep going with your great channel. but not to fast 💡
