    I’ve watched every Fextralife deadfire video so many times. They are simply the best. I know the game is long past relevance for the algorithm, but I would LOVE some “The Ultimate” guides or PotD videos. Either way, love these!

      I've spent about 12 hours over the last few days picking what class do I want to play...I've still not made it out of the first island. I love such in-depth and flexible character creation systems. But I also hate them. Because instead of playing the game I play the damn character creator. I'm that kind of person who makes a character and literally 5 minutes later decides I want something else. Over. And over.

    Very helpful video. I'm not the type to do more than 1 or 2 playthroughs, so being presented with the choice of single or multiclass characters, I immediately felt that "uh oh... what if i make a weak multi character?" anxiety. Starting over would not be something I'd easily resort to. This video put my mind at ease. I'm now confident that my rogue/paladin hybrid will work out.
    Thanks.

    An additional comment about wizards, I still found that multi-classing evoker, and fury is probably the best for sustained aoe damage/control. By utilizing both relentless storm, and ningauth's shadowflame, your enemies will be stuck in a stun paralysis loop. The only thing is you'll be lacking in boss killing potential, but those are few and far between.

  • @pali1d
    @pali1d 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Blood mage/psion is a lot of fun. Probably not the best for a solo run, given how squishy both classes are and its tendency to hurt itself, but a character on the backline that just never stops casting is a VERY potent member of the party.

  • @Julian-cn1ey

    Blood Mage is probably the strongest spec in the game. I've found a lot of success pairing it with bleak walker on a human for an offtank build, greatsword (for the weapon art), heavy armor, 16 con beefy boi. Human racial is 15% damage and 7 acc when bloodied, once per encounter. Paladin has the Retribution passive that generates a charge on every Blood Sacrifice use. Buff up for melee, blood sac your spell slots back to drop down to 50% health to proc the human racial and Retribution, Sworn Enemy a target, and swing in with a Black Flames at a +70% (30% on greatsword, 25% on Retribution, 15% from human) base damage buff with +32% lash, with a 15% post damage calculation multiplier. This is all before gear.
    Run bloodmage into melee, buff in melee, stack retribution and proc human racial, Sworn Enemy a target, turn on greatsword weapon art, flames of devotion, turn off greatsword art.
    Between the melee rotation, you can heal back up with lay on hands and spam spells. Necrotic Lance might not be the best spell in other wizard builds, but in a bloodmage build, it's incredible, two Lances will put down most enemies weak to fort. Corrosive Siphon is also a very solid spell and naturally fixes your sustain.
    I innitially thought the Steel Garote+Bloodmage would be good, and it does have good sustain, but I don't find the healing to be quite reliable enough to justify losing the 12% lash, while we have so much bonus base damage to multiply with it. Garrote is a very, very good ability, especially in that it comes at level 1, and the healing is solid, but I can't call Steel Garrote the default paladin class. I have to give that to Kind Wayfarer. Every time the KW procs Flames, they will heal their party for 3-4 times the amount a Steel Garrote would lifesteal for on any given hit, and that value potentially doubles on a dual wield character. Garrote and the lifesteal takes deliberation to use, and flames of devotion spam doesn't.

    Fury shaper is great for setting up firing lines along with the chanters knocked her arrow with speed. Especially if everyone is multiclassing as various spell casters. You'll breeze through the whole game no problem, because the raw damage taken from totem loss is a drop in the bucket, and berserkers don't really have any other support abilities to speak off for high difficulties.

    I was wondering what difficulty you would recommend for a playthrough with a full story companion party. I played the game a little around release, but decided to wait until all the dlcs were released. From what I remember, the stat distribution for most story companions was weird/unoptimized. Maybe you could even do a full video on story companion builds, I bet a lot of people would love a video like that.

    Made a furyshaper barbarian/paladin multi-class character on my previous playthrough. Admittedly, as much as I liked the concept, I found that I rarely ended up using totems. The benefit felt way too marginal, and since I was playing in turn-based mode, you really feel the need to make each turn meaningful. My character ended up just being a barbarian with healing spells and a bunch of skills that I'd only use if I was bored during an easy fight.

    A bit off topic, but: how do mixed melee/ranged dual wield loadouts work with Primary and Full Attacks? Do Primary attacks use the range-appropriate weapon, or always the one in your main hand? The Full attacks get the -35% damage penalty for dual wielding, despite only attacking with one weapon?

    chanter is a really weird class, single and multiclass wise because the bonus of subclasses on it are so much better than no subclass that you should never choose no subclass on it. if you plan on making a variety chanter where you support and summon/do damage you should choose troubadour because it's most well rounded and beckoner if you plan on only using summons because you won't have time of doing anything else because of the reduced duration + amount of phrases you need for the last summons in the game. the other three subclasses(counting no subclass) are not good compared to those two, they really need to buff Skald and nerf the lingering part of troubadour.

      I'm not using one. You can press "F" to run fast.

    Is it just me or building fighters through might sucks in this game? Perception and dexterity look way more useful in terms of killing everything as soon as possible.

      @RJMacReady1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A tank might not need it, but with a dps fighter you might as well dump resolve and go all in on both dex perception and might. This gives you the potential for stupid amounts of damage. I dont think you should ever need to choose between might and dex/per.

      @@RJMacReady1 dumping resolve kinda makes you a glass cannon, no? I played with superfast dps monk+rogue with no armor or watershaper's robe on, and I had to keep resolve at least at 10 not to die from the first hit))))

      @@romanscherbakov9561 A rogue monk with no armor will always be squishy, so I think its a waste of a lot of points to give them pretty bad deflection instead of really shitty deflection. Much rather put those points into damage output and just keep the char in second row until the tank(s) has/have aggroed melee enemies. Hell, with rogue talents you can just have the char zipping about, only killing ranged enemies and casters. With 18-20 might, dex, and per + whatever youre getting from gear, you will be ANNIHILATING the back row enemies without being in any particular danger.
      I almost never put anything in resolve. In my current custom party potd run, I have a melee dualwield barb paladin, and he has 3 resolve. Hes all about constitution and armor rating, and he can take a goddamn BEATING, while also being very fast and the best damage dealer aside from my main character.

    Considering that you can just mod the game however you want, there has never been not such thing as unbalance or sub-optimal/invalid builds. You can make the game as "balanced" or "unbalanced" as you see fit. This is one of the main reasons why I prefer PC over console, you can do whatever the heck you want with the game. As such, this update changes nothing for me in terms of "viable" class combinations.

    ALL the Barbarian subclasses suck. The penalties are way too harsh, to be worth it. Berserker is probably the best one, but constantly harms yourself, and harms your teammates in melee range. It's ridiculous
