Fun fact: The reason Sonic appears so late in Subspace is because Saukurai asked SEGA if he could be in the game, which their initial response was no. At the end of development, SEGA changed their mind to have him in the game, so they had to rush him into the subspace story.
Then I’ll admit, they really made a close call. But I’m still bummed out on his move sets because I can excuse Brawl for being rushed but the later games, he just keeps them with only a few minor changes.
Don't forget the fact that in the trailer for Steve, Sonic punches Mario so hard he sends him to Minecraft. This mf punched him so hard he traveled to a completely different game.

Tabuu couldn't hit sonic bc Tabuu didn't even know he existed. And I think he saw it the first time Tabuu hit all the characters with the first wave, so he knew that he needed to Suprise attack Tabuu. I think the characters knew that they needed to doge the attack the second time.
When I first did that fight as a kid all my characters died, but as soon as I spawned in as Sonic for my LAST character. I dodged EVERY attack and defeated him with ease without taking any percent of damage. Even I was shocked I did that 🤯. But man it was the coolest thing ever

More in depth explination: Sonic has accomplished feats of reaching light speed minimum in thanks to the light speed dash. IN HIS BASE FORM! Sonic in the smash universe has been shown to be in possession of the Chaos Emeralds which he probably could've used to fly away from galeem's blast as super sonic as being at least light speed in base form would make him fast enough in super form to get out of the smash universe using just his speed therefore escaping. The only reason he didn't was because he was so selfless he decided to try to help Pikachu. He could've also gone to little planet and time traveled to after Galeem's blast as in the smash verse Sonic's world is guaranteed present as in the level select screen in Subspace Emmisary shows Angel Island. Which while Little Planet appears only for 1 month of the year, Sonic could just use his super form anyway. Sonic is also able to react to and dodge lasers as shown in several boss fights such as the Oil Ocean zone boss fight and that was classic Sonic who is a weaker version of Sonic from the past. (I know Forces retconned this but Generations is the superior game so L to forces)
There is no most important stat. Sonic would beat Mario 80 times over before the fight even began, yes. On the other hand, try as he might, he’ll never win against Bowser. The Koopa King is just way too durable for Sonic to any meaningful damage, even if we give him a full year of free hits. And Bowser isn’t unbeatable either, since we all know how poorly he performs against Mario, who is strong enough in base form to deal more damage than getting launched through one star, into a second, which then went supernova and sucked the turtle into a black hole (heck, Mario is the one who launched him). On top of that, immunities have to be factored in, too. None of these individuals could deal any damage to Ganon, since he’s immune to all but the holiest of holy power. Chaos can’t touch him, he has Bowser’s weakness (magic fire turns him into Dry Bowser, who can’t even handle a big fall), and Mario/Bowser’s nature as star children isn’t enough holy power to make him feel more than a tap.

However, in Generations, Sonic was able to beat Perfect Chaos in his base form. Sonic's Boost and Homing Attacks are enough to tear through hordes of robots with little resistance, and he has a variety of combat abilities from Frontiers he can use. Even the classic games have pretty good feats. In Sonic CD, Sonic could travel through time just by running really, really fast. Another example in Generations- he was able to move freely in White Space, an area that was described by Eggman to be without time. Seeing that speed is calculated by distance over time, this makes Sonic's speed immeasurable if he can move in a space that lacks time. And by running through White Space, he was able to restore the locations that were put in limbo by the Time Eater. Speaking of, Sonic survived the attack from the Time Eater and was the only one to not be turned into a motionless, colorless husk, so his durability is no slouch either. None of this is even taking to account Super Sonic himself, who has triumphed over: - Perfect Chaos, who was powered by the Emeralds himself - Metal Overlord, a version of Metal Sonic powered up with the data of various other Sonic characters - Dark Gaia, an ancient primordial entity within the planet that wakes up periodically after many millennia to destroy the planet - Solaris, a transcendent, super-dimensional god who "eats dimensions for lunch" - Time Eater, a being with dominion over time and space - The Titans, gigantic mechs created by the Ancients and powered by the Chaos Emeralds to fight against The End - The End, an incarnation of death set on annihilating all life Needless to say, Super Sonic is incredibly powerful. Sonic's nigh-invulnerable state bolsters even greater speed, strength and durability than his base, alongside the reality-warping Chaos Control ability. That said, I don't think Sonic particularly needs his super form to beat Bowser. As for Ganondorf, Chaos Control could perhaps seal him away, or Super Sonic could send him flying into space where he can't come back. Alternatively, he could use the Excalibur Sonic form from Black Knight- I think the sacred sword of Arthurian legend will most definitely suffice as a holy weapon to kill Ganon. And even without any of those, I don't see it ending in anything worse than a stalemate for Sonic. Don't sleep on the ol' Blue Blur.

More in depth explination: Sonic has accomplished feats of reaching light speed minimum in thanks to the light speed dash. IN HIS BASE FORM! Sonic in the smash universe has been shown to be in possession of the Chaos Emeralds which he probably could've used to fly away from galeem's blast as super sonic as being at least light speed in base form would make him fast enough in super form to get out of the smash universe using just his speed therefore escaping. The only reason he didn't was because he was so selfless he decided to try to help Pikachu. He could've also gone to little planet and time traveled to after Galeem's blast as in the smash verse Sonic's world is guaranteed present as in the level select screen in Subspace Emmisary shows Angel Island. Which while Little Planet appears only for 1 month of the year, Sonic could just use his super form anyway. Sonic is also able to react to and dodge lasers as shown in several boss fights such as the Oil Ocean zone boss fight and that was classic Sonic who is a weaker version of Sonic from the past. (I know Forces retconned this but Generations is the superior game so L to forces)

There is no most important stat. Sonic would beat Mario 80 times over before the fight even began, yes. On the other hand, try as he might, he’ll never win against Bowser. The Koopa King is just way too durable for Sonic to any meaningful damage, even if we give him a full year of free hits. And Bowser isn’t unbeatable either, since we all know how poorly he performs against Mario, who is strong enough in base form to deal more damage than getting launched through one star, into a second, which then went supernova and sucked the turtle into a black hole (heck, Mario is the one who launched him). On top of that, immunities have to be factored in, too. None of these individuals could deal any damage to Ganon, since he’s immune to all but the holiest of holy power. Chaos can’t touch him, he has Bowser’s weakness (magic fire turns him into Dry Bowser, who can’t even handle a big fall), and Mario/Bowser’s nature as star children isn’t enough holy power to make him feel more than a tap.

Sonic's Boost and Homing Attacks are enough to tear through hordes of robots with little resistance, and he has a variety of combat abilities from Frontiers he can use.
Even the classic games have pretty good feats. In Sonic CD, Sonic could travel through time just by running really, really fast.
Another example in Generations- he was able to move freely in White Space, an area that was described by Eggman to be without time. Seeing that speed is calculated by distance over time, this makes Sonic's speed immeasurable if he can move in a space that lacks time. And by running through White Space, he was able to restore the locations that were put in limbo by the Time Eater.
Speaking of, Sonic survived the attack from the Time Eater and was the only one to not be turned into a motionless, colorless husk, so his durability is no slouch either.
None of this is even taking to account Super Sonic himself, who has triumphed over:
- Perfect Chaos, who was powered by the Emeralds himself
- Metal Overlord, a version of Metal Sonic powered up with the data of various other Sonic characters
- Dark Gaia, an ancient primordial entity within the planet that wakes up periodically after many millennia to destroy the planet
- Solaris, a transcendent, super-dimensional god who "eats dimensions for lunch"
- Time Eater, a being with dominion over time and space
- The Titans, gigantic mechs created by the Ancients and powered by the Chaos Emeralds to fight against The End
- The End, an incarnation of death set on annihilating all life
Needless to say, Super Sonic is incredibly powerful. Sonic's nigh-invulnerable state bolsters even greater speed, strength and durability than his base, alongside the reality-warping Chaos Control ability.
That said, I don't think Sonic particularly needs his super form to beat Bowser. As for Ganondorf, Chaos Control could perhaps seal him away, or Super Sonic could send him flying into space where he can't come back. Alternatively, he could use the Excalibur Sonic form from Black Knight- I think the sacred sword of Arthurian legend will most definitely suffice as a holy weapon to kill Ganon. And even without any of those, I don't see it ending in anything worse than a stalemate for Sonic.
