    This lesson covers Red a German Shepherd mix who is reactive / aggressive on the leash to other dogs and then redirects to me. Red is a very high prey driven dog and Will has had some issues with this drive. We did a session a few weeks back that really got Red better controlled so we were able to bring in Jimi for a casual introduction. You'll see Red's initial reaction and how we were able to manage and modify his drives with some simple corrections and rewards.
    Understanding how and why a dog acts aggressive is a key to solving the problem. Is it aggression or just a dog being dominantly playful? What's the difference and how do we handle to difference? How much correction is too much and how much is NOT enough? What are the best tools to use? Prong collar? Electric e-collar? Praise, treats, rewards?
    In this video you'll get a great idea on the methodology I've used on countless shelter dogs to help them learn structure and good behavior. If you want to see the full version of this video, check out my online dog training lessons at:

    I see lots of badly trained dogs LOTS. Most of the dog owners seem to me to have similar problems. Half hearted tones to their commands, refusal to use a correction and too long a lead or the use of a body harness or both. What do I know for sure? If they have kids at home, they are badly behaved as well.

      Andy Giabo some dogs are big enough such as a corso that small dogs look like nothing more then prey . Otherwise they act great , why judge a whole family on an action you see for thirty seconds , I doubt you’re that smart ,

    • @ruthacheson8604
      @ruthacheson8604 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think @Andy Giabo that many times it’s the case that the owner just truly has no idea what to do. I have 3 young kids and a reactive rescue dog. Trust me, it’s much easier to discipline kids than a dog if you don’t know how to do it, because you can reason with kids. Dog training classes don’t tend to teach what to do when the dog misbehaves...or they teach that you should ignore the dog, which in reality just lets it continue with the bad behaviour with no consequences. The owner here is clearly a lovely man, as far as I can see he isn’t sure what to do and so there is no conviction in his corrections. It’s a skill he will have to learn, like I had to. I’ve no doubt that with Robert’s guidance he will up his game and nail it, because he is clearly a very committed and caring owner.

      My parents groing up had one dog in particular who would run off all the time. All three of us kids would go chase him until we caught him bc we knew we had to. My parents go compliments all thd time on how well behaved we were. My point is that its not fair to assume dog behavior and parenting children is the same. To assume that someone has kids that are untrained bc of a dog is ridiculous bc the language is completely different. The only similarity I can find is need for being consistent. I am grateful this man is taking help from him as I can see how many people on here, including myself are benefiting from watching.

      Raising children is not the same as raising dogs. Children are human. It’s intuitive. Dogs are a different species. Lots of people have great children and poorly behaved dogs.

    I have a highly aggressive dog like that and she's been through training, and it's a continuous long term process but she's making progress. Unfortunately some of the most dangerous situations I've encountered have been people with their dogs off leash in public and out of control that have run up to my dog and in her space, and the owner thinks it is perfectly acceptable for two strange and unacquainted dogs to meet nose to nose. I've also been walking my dog in my neighborhood and had owners with their dogs off leash in their own front yard with the owner unable to call their dog back as it runs up to "greet" my (very dangerous) dog without permission.
    Please help owners and dogs like this by educating other owners on the dangers of keeping their dogs off leash and out of control in public. It's a difficult battle, since if an owner is irresponsible enough to keep their untrained dog off leash, they also have no comprehension of the dangers associated with it.

    • @sodium9920
      @sodium9920 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have had the exact same problem, I am now very assertive and make it very clear to the owner of other dogs "call your dog off " He will get bit! CALL HIM OFF NOW ! Manners after the event do help. Fortunatly the dog park I use, some of the owners now know my dog and put on leashes or hold back ( as i do to make space until I can get this dog fully compliant )He's getting there out of 7 dog sightings the other day, only one jerk and drive at it.

    once again Robert this is "real world" training. Red is exactly like my Australian Cattle Dog I rescued a few months go, every part of the video were he's completely checked out on the other dog. It's only after watching pretty much all of your training video's that I'm able to identify the whole escalation of my dog going from stare down.. to stalk mode then to full boil in a few seconds that I can correct it and try to get her to reengage, it's not easy but she's getting there. I wish I was in the states, I'd love to do a train session like this.
    Please do more of these with similar reactive dogs. Pretty much all of the dog training videos show a dog come in then 5 mins later it's Tah DAh! the dog's fixed Great video

    Hello Robert.
    We always follow your advices and trust you. I feel desperate about my dog’s issue.
    He is 16 months old intact male. We live in the country with tremendous amount of stray dogs. I don’t let my dog to contact them, because I don’t know what to expect from them. I think because of this restriction my dog became aggressively reactive to the dogs. I let him free in safety areas, but when there are stray dogs I take him on leash. Male dogs tend to come close to us and I use water spray to scare them away. My dog is always growling and getting aggressive when they come close. I correct him firmly with martingale collar or with e collar. Martingale makes him more angry, e collar stops him but not 100%. And we cannot just turn back and walk away, because the dogs are on our way. I see that some people allow their pet dogs to play with stray dogs (but their pet dogs are mostly neutered).
    What would you on my place? What makes my dog so aggressive? I feel like it’s my fault.

    thank you so much for this I can learn a lot...about engagement/with these two dogs. I did the same with my Malinois but what I learn most, I must
    pay attention to his movement then how I hold the leash in that way I'm prepared, I'm just 150ft tall and same time my grocery carriage I'm walking that time cause supermarket nearby, it is effective, I give command sit I hold his collar leash upright then let the brown labrador pass by an opposite of the road,,, in that I create big self-confidence, I can handle him cause he listens, I use to walk with him 7x when his few weeks old, to create discipline normally we are using without leash..just share my experiences
    AS I see in this video, I'm glad I did the same, and ok feel good too I do it right. it is learning you know

    A question, at minute 6 it felt like the dog was giving you (or at least tried to) a correction, cause he didn't want to do the sit and you corrected him. Instead of wanted to play with you?
    on minute 6:40 I think you are wrong.
    I think it's the opposite, like the trainer effect, the other person will have always faster and better results. just because the dog only knows you as direct, leading, dominant. The handler especially if he wasn't that structured has to work to get the respect from the dog first. So the trainer will always naturally have the better result.

    Hi Robert, hope I can ask something here: I have a mixed 2 years old big dog with a history of attacking dogs and adult people. Today, after very hard work, he loves humen but still wants to attack stranger guests (instead of crate, I leave him out on the balcony of my studio apartment). How can I be sure if/when he will stop being aggressive also to dogs? When meeting dogs today (after improvements): he plays immediately or get angry (and then I don't come closer), or.. he is stressed, few moments and it switched to play mode or attacking mode or I just take him away. I have him since he's 8 months. He is the cutest, but bully sometimes.
    Thanks so much! His life are happier because of your videos.

Can you please show us something about training when you have two dogs or at least when you are talking about something tell us about how we can implement this technique while teaching two of your dogs at the same time or anything because its impossible to do most of the things you are showing at the same time and ı am trying to train seperately but it is time consuming as you guess, just something!!!!!

    I thought sniffing was good behavior in the sense that it shows the other dog his intentions? Or that it is a de-stressor in a stressful situation, which can only be positive. Maybe I’m wrong.

    Be careful which breeder you buy from. Many aggressive, fear biting and other unwanted behaviors are genetically bred into a dog by bad breeders.

    You corrected the dog WHILST he was looking at you. You corrected the correct behaviour, and the dog was like WTF am I supposed to do.

      I don't think it is a pure breed German Shepherd Dog. However - not all GSDs have that 'black saddle' color pattern.
