Just discovered bits of this concerto a few weeks ago, giving it a full listen now. And by God , this is a legendary performance. One of my favorite concerto from now on, no doubts !!!

One of my very few recorings of any music in the late 1940's. Playing this on a player and speaker combo, I didn't hear much of the quieter passages. This music and a couple of other classical pieces got me through many "allnighters".

Such a deeply emotional performance of this glorious piano concerto. The first movement is so joyful and full of vigor. The second movement Is laced with sadness and beautiful emotional depth. The melody is so heavily influenced by Arabic music yet stamped with Khachaturian's unique harmonic style. The musical saw part adds so much more to the movement. It always sounds to me as if someone's crying and adds so much more to the sadness. Absolutely stunning performance

I saw this concerto on Nov 4, 2023 played by Thibaudet and conducted by Dudamel with the Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra. This was by far the best interpretation of this concerto I've heard in my life. Thibaudet was unbelievable and Dudamel was fantastic. Together they brought this piece to such a high level that would make Khachaturian extremely happy and proud. I can't complement enough about this performance, all I can say is that I couldn't stop yelling "Bravo" at the end.

JY is playing this piece in Los Angeles this week. I wonder how Khatchaturian would have felt about his Soviet music being played by a gay pianist.

A Piano Concerto and a Violin Concerto that both need to be programmed more. They stand up with the best that the 20th Century has to offer.

Purtroppo, per mia ignoranza, non conoscevo questo concerto ed e' stata una magnifica rivelazione, grazie!!! E' splendido e travolgente. L'esecuzione è, secondo me, impeccabile, CHE BELLO; BRAVI!!!!! Comprerò subito il disco!!!!!!

Long live JYT! I just adore this man. And yes, as one commentator noted, the orchestra and the conductor are equally as sublime. What a joy it must be to live in Paris with so many fine orchestras. And now the negative: TH-cam placed ads in the middle of the second movement. In. The. Middle. Of. The. Second. Movement. Ridiculous!

This might be the only concerto where you might considering bringing ear protection to assist

[SEE BELOW]Oooppppsss!!!! I forgot Rachmaninov whose four piano concertos and his RHAPSODY ON A THEME OF PAGANINI still give us beauty and joy.

Isn't 20th century classical music a real hoot! Think of the variety of composer and their varied music: Khachaturian, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Gershwin, Barber, Menotti, Chavez, Vaughan Williams, Hovhanness, Hanson, et al. It's truly a feast, with the mass communications to make sure everybody can have a slice of the pie. Was there ever such an age?

I am left speechless. What a brilliant masterpiece. Mssr Thibaudet is an absolute genius. Thanks so much for posting this marvelous performance.
