    Guys, well done to the commentary team. As a person who lives outside the USA, we finally had commentators that actually ran through the names of runners as the race progressed so we knew who they were. Plus, this being a 5,000 METERS race, all the comments were about reaching 1600 METERS, 3000 METERS. Then with 600 METERS to go... etc. The old guard always, always keep talking imperial measurements throughout. eg reaching the mile mark, or 2 mile mark. (when they actually mean 1600m not a mile!) Thank you for being modern and professional in your presentation. Cheers.

    Jakob just looked so good there, it's hard to tell if he was really exerting much effort through that whole race. I think Mohumed took him by surprise. Jakob surely wanted to ease away there and make it look really easy, but it wasn't so. It's pretty cool to think that there's a new European who's capable of a sub 13. Can't wait to see them battle again at Euros.

      In an interview Jakob said he hasn’t started track training yet so he said he now knows he can run 13:02 whenever he likes. He also said his brothers told him that he shouldn’t have kicked and jogged in after knowing he got the World standard. But Jakob said he likes winning too much. So I think it was a decent effort from him, but also probably had the capabilities of running 10 seconds quicker. Which is insane to say he hasn’t started track training

    Ideally, race videos wouldn't single out the winner in the title, but since some do, I click on race videos without reading the title. I could be wrong, but I think anyone who cares can learn to do the same. However, watching the video and seeing "the guy in green" as the only runner who looked like he wasn't working, I knew who that had to be and that he'd probably be number 1. Still, it's more satisfying to deduce the result than to be told in the title. That said, this was a great video with helpful commentary. Thank you so much!

    Imagine if Jakob Ingebrigtsen was born the US, OMG, imagine how crazy people, sports fans, track fans, marketing companies, the press would be going out of their mind. As an 18 year old high school senior these would be his times ----- 1500m - 3:30.16, ranked number 2 in the world; 5,000m 13:02.03 ; 10,000m - 27:54.................... and a 3:56 mile as a 16 year old and a 3:31 1500m as a 17 year old. Compared to all the American high school records it would almost be like he was from another planet. And and an Olympic champ at Olympic record holder at only 20, basically college freshmen, European cross country champ at 20, OMG what he would do to NCAA cross country. And at 21 basically a college senior destroyed the best in the world in the 5,000 at the World Championships............................ It's great to look at American stars his age, but what Jacob is doing for a western raised runner, we've never seen before, ever. Maybe the only slight comparison is what Jim Ryun was doing as a high school senior and college freshmen, and he made the cover of Sports Illustrated and received all kind of publicity. In another sports possibly Lebron James in and out of high school. I am not sure when was the last time a distance runner from American made the cover of mainstream non running magazines. Jakob won't be here forever, but I am really appreciating what I seen.

    Remember, back in 1978 when Henry Rono set the NCAA record, professional runners were not permitted to compete in the same race as Collegiate athletes. (Same thing for Prefontaine's era.) I'm glad that they got rid of that old, strictly-enforced ruling. Also glad the the old AAU went by the wayside, too.

    • @johnwilson5743
      @johnwilson5743 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mate, I know this is being pedantic BUT... "Professional" is NOT a category of runner. They are simply "Open Grade" runners. Everyone becomes an Open Grade runner once they pass the age group categories, whether they get paid or not. It is the NCAA that has exclusions and require that all runners in NCAA events were NCAA registered. ie Going to College/University. If it were strictly enforced, NCAA athletes have to be between ages 18-24 but somehow some older ones do slip in. I'm not sure under which provision.
      That is why NCAA (College/University) is NOT the top grade athletic group and USA athletes, in particular, get very confused when they realise there is a higher grade. The Olympics are used as the prime example of the major, Open Grade events. NCAA runners get shocked to realise there are often faster/stronger athletes who compete in Open Grade events. College athletes can compete in Open Grade events but Open grade runners are excluded from "College only" events. It's as simple as that. If they are running in the same race, then it is obviously an Open race. Cheers.

      @@johnwilson5743 You definitely know a lot about our sport, my friend. I don't want to argue with you in any way. I respect your knowledge. Thanks for sharing. One slight correction: Because my birthday is in late November, I did indeed train with my NCAA team at AGE 17. I was barely 18 when I ran at my first indoor College competition. Had I been a XC athlete also, I would have competed at AGE 17.

    • @johnwilson5743
      @johnwilson5743 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Visionary0001 Congratulations on your entry at age 17. Well done. Obviously NCAA allows exceptions. You can check their own rules re age requirements and it is stated as 18-24 but no one is going to be pedantic about slightly younger or older athletes. But the ages are to stop Colleges from recruiting a heap of 30 year old, Olympic quality athletes, just so they can win Collegiate competitions. That's why USA Colleges are the only ones in the world that offer Sports scholorships. In other Countries, College/University is for academic study, not to play sports. I'm not saying it's entirely bad. It's often good for sports like swimming and re Track, the sprinters. But as middle/long distance runners don't hit their peaks until late 20's, early 30's, it destroys 98% of those athletes. It burns them out with their requirement to "peak" for Crosscountry, Road, Indoor track and Outdoor track. Plus, over-races them by requiring them to race in two or three events per meeting. Ok for sprinters but 5000k runners?? It burns them out over a 4 year Degree course.
      This is the reason the Athletic federations of most countries advise against their runners accepting Sports scholorships to USA Colleges. I know of around 20 of our New Zealand runners who accepted and only one continued running after College age. (Nick Willis) Note: he didn't hit his peak times until AFTER he had left the college system. Anyway, I hope you continue with your Track career. Good luck mate. Cheers.
