I was wondering the exact same thing. People seem to forget him or just don't see the special guitar play he does. Don't know what it is but if the criteria are ' how they play, songwriting and creativity' then the definetely belongs on this list, let a lone an honorable mention.
@@jacocharzukanamericanautho2422 it’s debatable but I would say he is in terms of pure song writing ability. Hendrix has great melodic ability, but Harrison creates more complex songs
John Frusciante is the most underrated guitar player!! Maybe his solos werent the most difficult, or the most fast, or with more technique, but when you hear John play, you can feel the music through you, he put all his emotions and you can feel them, for me, after jimi hendrix, john is the greatest!!!
Absolutely right about Jhon Frusciante, but liking depends !! I really can say when Jhon plays i can feel the music. for us generation his music is "lovely".
RickJamesBitch8 There is no best guitarist since people will always choose the genre they prefer, which will most likely be Rock since is the most famous, but if you follow the logic of this list then Rock is the epitome of guitar virtuosity, which it's clearly not.
I love Alex Lifeson from Rush. He put power and intelligence to his playing. Yet Eddie’s style of playing is second to none! It was his technique that set him apart from other guitarists. He became the modern day Jimi Hendrix!
Watching Dave Gilmour at Pompei on TV I was welling up almost from the first note. His playing kind of envelopes you like a fog and you just get lost in the sheer emotion! No one else quite like it!
"Jimmy - the most influential guitarist of all times" Nope, no modern guitar god list Page as their primary influence except Slash. Most say Jeff Beck, actually
@@jeremytrudell7163 Jeremy....Jeff Beck admits that Jimmy Page is one of HIS greatest influences, besides being one of his best friends. The FACT IS....The Yardbirds approached Jimmy Page BEFORE Jeff Beck. Page didn't want to deal with the drama and the egos of the band, so Page referred Jeff Beck to Clapton and The Yardbirds, right before Clapton bailed. Clapton left the Yardbirds due to egos, and also musical differences. Clapton was adamant about playing his style of the blues while Relf (Lead singer of Yardbirds) was trying to take the band another direction. The irony is that Page ended up playing bass with his friend and later moving to lead after Beck got tired of the bullshit. You are also wrong about "modern guitar gods".....maybe your list and mine are different. I'd like to know who you is on YOUR list. What about Hammett and Hetfield? What about Zack Wylde? What about Jake Kiszka? I could give you a dozen more who are still very relevant
Ozzy Osbourne gave us Randy Roads, Jake E Lee and Zak Wylde. Alcatrazz gave us Yngwie Malmsteen and Steve Vai. Another cool fact: Page, Clapton and Beck lived a mile apart growing up, there must be something in the water.
What sets Ritchie Blackmore apart is his art of improvisation at the highest level. His art is, he improvises at high speed and almost flawlessly and combines musicality with aggressiveness in a spectacular way. Thanks to TH-cam and the live versions, many people (and me) only realized how good it is and how much fun it is to hear it and to continue to discover it. He's unique and so are other guitarists. I enjoy a lot of guitarists and Ritchie Blackmore. Anyone who knows nothing but his favorites has slept through the world !!!!
In My Opinion The fact that you love them doesn't mean they're good. I know their works well and they are fine but probably not in the big Ten for a number of obvious reasons, but not even those on Mojang's list, but they are very iconic guitarists and so they are on the list .a very common mistake in people is to think that the fastest guitarists are better than the slower ones. Not in this case but still; they chose the most iconic ones which is wrong. There are a lot of small ,unknown guitarists that are twenty times better than jimi hendrix with all of the respect and there is a lot of it. But in the end , after the Sound ,complexity and creativity it's all about personal taste so there are no "best". So don't get offended. this list is not really a list of "best, it's a list of most "iconic" Edit: sorry about the bad English
John Todd how so....? His music is phenomenal! He evokes emotion out of more people then any other guitarist on earth. Being able to shred is pointless and not musical. Playing guitar is about more then that therefor he is in no way overrated as THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING.
Ah, Jimmy Page wasn't co-founder of Led Zeppelin...he was the founder, he started the band, it was HIS vision and he's top guitarist for me...simply the most authentic, beautiful creative guitarist to watch live. wrote some of the most iconic riffs, music in history. NO ONE comes close for me.
Toni can create an atmosphere or Zeitgeist with his guitar riffs....like a real Black Sabbath with evil witches or Judgement Day and wrath. You are there ! Truly great guitar player.
As a Clapton fan I Will suffice seeing him any lower down the list the number two. Although I personally haven't listened to much Jimi Hendrix, I can't argue with his amazing talents.
@@julesrose7738 wb Hendrix u can say he wasn’t as technically skilled or maybe even overrated but his absolute control over the instrument and ability to do things no one was able to do gives him the no.1 spot for me
@@elstonngunn4193 I can relate to Hendrix having control. Try searching "Best Guitarist". Hendrix is always no. 1 - Jimmy Page no. 2. I found a "Best Guitar Bands" top list & Page was no. 1, Eddie Van Halen no.2, Gilmour no. 4, Brian May or Keith Richards maybe no. 3. Hendrix and Clapton didn't make this list. Hendrix was great but sadly his Career was cut short. Page proved himself as a Session Artist at 15. He only got better, in high demand, & carried Zeppelin for Decades. He kicked the hard drugs & it's great to hear him today talk about the 60's & '70's. Zeppelin were a top Sell Out Rock Band, who are still gaining young fans & Awards.
@@Shyarsonist Jimi Hendrix sadly had a short career, and unlike Zep he wasn't diverse. He wasn't around long enough to know if he had staying power. Jimmy Page had a great manager and JP was the Producer. They were 4, very well seasoned & talented Musicians who became an overnight sensation. Look at Pink Floyd, David Gilmour was under Roger's control, but stayed successful & Waters flopped!
CM PUNK IS META. JIMMY PAGE WAS JUST AS GOOD ! And him and John brought out the best in each other, but yes David Gilmore is the best ! He had a way of talking to you with his guitar..... Floyd and Zeppelin are the two best bands, and I'd throw Queen in there as well....
Duane Allman was at # 2 behind Hendrix at one time and he deserves to be there too. If anyone listens to Duane, a guy who is arguably, the finest electric slide player ever, you can hear his power, grace and originality on the Fillmore East recordings. Clapton begged Allman to join his band in 1970 but as it goes, he could never have left the ABB and his brother Gregg
Not to mention that he made Layla a hit by his guitar influence on not only his guitar but also on Clapton's. Duane and Dickie Betts arguably the best duo ever. There is no best because there is not 1 all knowing judge. I'll go ahead and throw Roy Buchannan in the mix since no one else has.
Needless to say!, these sort of lists are fraught for being so personal and arbitrary, but I do note that Hendrix is at #1 on virtually every list. I have personally never even listened to Hendrix, but feel that one needs only to see him play once, to realise that irrespective of the combined greatness of others, his headspace and fingers really were in some different universe.
The lyrics from the first album onward suggest that he came in on a spaceship for a little visit to the Third Stone from the Sun, looked around (Up From the Skies), and saw a world that had burned. "Well maybe it's just a change of climate". "I had been been here before, in the days of ice". Maybe he really was from another universe. His guitar playing sure was, and remember, nobody had heard anything like this before. He was WAY ahead of his time. I still listen to, and miss him.

Yeah, he was a beast. I never realized it as a kid growing up watching on television. I hate country but he and Glen Campbell are guitar gods. John 5 was influenced by HEE HAW. You should hear him play banjo rolls on guitar... He should be on this list. Detroit rocks with John 5 our hometown boy!
Most of these guitarists have been a big influence for me, but my favorite guitarist of all time who is unfortunately not on this list is Steve Howe from Yes.
Prince is another one... I don't care what anyone says, prince has always been the most underrated guitar player to ever walk the earth and that's a fact
Brian is no wheee near these guys coming from a skillful perspective. But everyone ranks guitarists a different way. I rank them on skill and skill only but most rank on there impact on the instrument and the guitar community.
Jmmi Hedrix once said myself that I'm not the best guitarist in the world. But Rory Galliger. My father attended this concert where Jmmi Hendrix was asked. And you can also Google it is true

Budi Setiawan depends on the context, jimi is better then srv in terms of innovation and inspiration towards future generations, aswell as sounds and songs and writing never heard previously, SRV DESTROYED jimi in terms of of overall playing, with that mean ass tone, extreme intensity and also way more feeling then Hendrix as well and he could play smoother then basically everyone before him at that time, you cant really compare them.
@@sgtpepper6499 I would definitely agree with you in terms of innovation, but you should also recognize how I actually innovated a lot with the blues because people like JLH and Robert Johnson had a somewhat delta-blues style and I took that and turned it into blues-rock, which to my understanding had never been done before. Before I passed, I thought of Jimi as the best guitarist. Jimi was extremely innovative and I would agree with you there that he made these unheard of songs. But the thing is, most of Jimi's songs weren't the best songs in the world (not that they are bad they are quite superb) and he laid out a path for other musicians. Jimi was an amazing shredder, don't get me wrong, but I would agree with you when you say that I would outshred him. Thank you.

His sound change the rock game since the Yardbirds with every record with Truth & Beckola, JBG2, BBA and Blow by blow and all the records he makes until his death in this year. BB King and Chuck Berry - these two are always on the 6th and 5th spot so im combing them as they both are as influential as eachother and as skillfull 5. Randy Rhodes - Just listen to Blizzard of Oz and thats all the proof you need 4. Eddie Van Halen - he needs no introduction, he is the creator of arguably the hardest guitar solo of all time and one of the greatest, his self made techniques are beaten by nobody, 3. Eric Clapton - 3 words, influence, skill and overall baddassery (yes i made a new word up), his riffs and solos are some of the most instantly recognizable ones ever and his succsess with different genres and his guitar writing and sogwriting techniques are close to number 1 2. Jimmy Page - the fact that if you play Kashmir, Stairway To Heaven, Whole Lotta Love and Rock and Roll to anyone and they'll know it instantly and the amount of guitarist hes influence is enough to put him on the number 2 spot alone without recognizing his skill speaks for itself. 1. I get a kick out of some of the comments on here. Gilmour should be way WAY higher on the list. Guitar isn't always playing as fast as you possibly can, it's about creating an atmosphere using dynamics, shredding is cool and all but sometimes you need to slow it down and let a note ring out for a full semibreve. His style is the perfect combination of atmosphere, skill and melody.

Mark knopfler doesn't even get an honorable mention? He really did play electric guitar in a way no one has before or since really. And no one is going to deny that his best riffs are right up there with the best of anyone's and completely original
I was wondering the exact same thing. People seem to forget him or just don't see the special guitar play he does. Don't know what it is but if the criteria are ' how they play, songwriting and creativity' then the definetely belongs on this list, let a lone an honorable mention.
Richie Blackmore, need I say anything more?
Prince and George harrison are very very underrated they surely deserve much more
both of them are not underrated that's like saying Led Zeppelin are underrated
I put a shout in for prince above...think it's lost on him being a showman n great writer but he could pluck as well as most.
@@jacocharzukanamericanautho2422 no question George is top 10. He’s a better writer than anyone on this list.
@@jacocharzukanamericanautho2422 it’s debatable but I would say he is in terms of pure song writing ability. Hendrix has great melodic ability, but Harrison creates more complex songs

oh and also brian may
John Frusciante is the most underrated guitar player!! Maybe his solos werent the most difficult, or the most fast, or with more technique, but when you hear John play, you can feel the music through you, he put all his emotions and you can feel them, for me, after jimi hendrix, john is the greatest!!!
🙏🏼
And Jimi Hendrix is the most overrated guitar player too. He's not fucking Jesus, he was just a very gifted guitar player that left us too early.
Amen, such a beautiful man, and fucking talented.
Absolutely right about Jhon Frusciante, but liking depends !! I really can say when Jhon plays i can feel the music. for us generation his music is "lovely".
Agreed! Same for Rocky George ex member of Suicidal Tendencies. Soooo fucking good and just way too underrated..

RickJamesBitch8 You don't know either.

Comfortably numb - Possibly one of the most powerful rock songs ever, Never fails to bring tears to my eyes.....
Greatest guitar solo, ever, ever.
Amen Kerry! Gilmore's playing is from the heart and so pure and true! He makes me cry listening to his music.
Watching Dave Gilmour at Pompei on TV I was welling up almost from the first note. His playing kind of envelopes you like a fog and you just get lost in the sheer emotion! No one else quite like it!
One of the very best guitar solos too. And beyond that, Gilmour has a large body of work to be proud of

The Yardbirds gave us Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page ……. unbelievable.
Angus Young is way more than just an honorable mention. For sound and time he has played he should be top of your list.

Hello Phillip how are you doing 😊
Even Brian May said not enough people talk about Ritchie Blackmore. And it’s sad😔

ritchie was the best maybe just jimi hendrix could be better
@@tycobb531 poor dio
agree, RB is king, should be on the list
What sets Ritchie Blackmore apart is his art of improvisation at the highest level. His art is, he improvises at high speed and almost flawlessly and combines musicality with aggressiveness in a spectacular way. Thanks to TH-cam and the live versions, many people (and me) only realized how good it is and how much fun it is to hear it and to continue to discover it. He's unique and so are other guitarists. I enjoy a lot of guitarists and Ritchie Blackmore. Anyone who knows nothing but his favorites has slept through the world !!!!
Beautiful Jimmy page
R.i.p Eddie van halen
So you’re telling me that neither Angus Young or Slash made the list
So don't get offended. this list is not really a list of "best, it's a list of most "iconic"
Edit: sorry about the bad English
Slash is DANGEROUSLY over-rated

Ah, Jimmy Page wasn't co-founder of Led Zeppelin...he was the founder, he started the band, it was HIS vision and he's top guitarist for me...simply the most authentic, beautiful creative guitarist to watch live. wrote some of the most iconic riffs, music in history. NO ONE comes close for me.

David Gilmour was once asked “What’s it like be the greatest guitarist in the world? To which he replied “I don’t know, ask Kurt Cobain”.

While these men are great, I still don't understand why Brian May isn't on here as atleast an honorable mention, even if he was a solo
I feel the same way, but I’m more favourable to Duane Allman.

This list is biased you like what you like and thats that, i personally believe jimi hendrix does not deserve #1 but hey thats my opinion, no matter what the list says, all these guys are better than me lmao
@@tweakc9179 I get what your saying but this is a list of the most popular guitarists, and Brian May is extremely popular, popular enough to make it as an honorable mention
Stevie at 8 makes no sense
EXACTLY
While I'm not a particularly big fan of Prince, he is probably the most underrated guitarist of all time
SRV is the best of that group .. and the riffs are too short to really appreciate.

Isabella Hale How on earth would srv be the best lol? He’s just your personal favorite. There is no “best”.
Thank you very much for this video. Best regards.from Bali Indonesia🙏
SRV and Gilmore should've been 3 and 4 respectively.
Top 10 IMO
10. LIndsay Buckingham
9. John Frusciante
8. JImi Hendrix
7. David Gilmore
6. Santana
5. Eddie Van Halen
4. SRV
3. Eric Clapton
2. Jimmy Page
Honorable Mentions: Keith Richards, BB King, George Harrison, Mick Taylor, Slash
1. Lil Wayne
peter k I took this list serious until I laughed at the 1st one
RobinCoasterTycoon3 Bro have you seen Wayne's solos? He fucking shreds.
Yup true. Lil Wayne is way better
Haha
+RobinCoasterTycoon3 haha me too lol I love Lindsay but just no
A list that misses out Mark Knopfler, JJ Cale and Brian May is no list at all
agree
Amen
Agreed
Ha Brian may
Dave Mustaine
By the time it's all said and done. I think John Mayer could make this list. He's already got the versatility, chops, harmonics and not to mention writing skills he just needs more more years or "decades" under his belt. Clapton said himself "John" doesn't realise how good he is.
Hugely underrated.
10. Angus Young 9. Kirk Hammett 8. Randy Rhoads 7. David Glimour 6.Tie: Eric Clapton/Carlos Santana 5. Yngwie Malmsteem 4. Jimmy Page 3. Eddie Van Halen 2. Brian May 1. jimmy hendrix
You forgot slash at 2 tied with dr may
+lee smith A very good list by the way. It could be better if it would contained one of these: Herman Li,Dave Murray,Dimebag Darrell, Kai Hansen.
+Egemen Kaya I would put Dave Mustaine in there
Where the fuck is Dimebag?! :P
M00nFred_ He is too good for this list
Chet Atkins, while not playing rock or blues, was one of the greatest guitar players of all-time.
Roy Clark was much better...
Roy Clark, Andres Segovia, Alex Leifson,SRV. There are about 10 more to fill out top ten. Van Halen is not one. He wasn't even best in the band. That would be Sammy Hagar
Alex lifeson? brain may? Carlos santana? Ritchie blackmore? Duane allman? Les paul?
Chet atkins? Neils lofegren? Mark knopfler? Django reinhardt? Joe pass? Pat martino?
allen holdsworth? Dickey betts? Joe walsh? Andy summers? Steve howe? Frank zappa?
I can go on forever.
Marya Levintova it’s a top 10
i agree this clip doesnt take notice off different styles classical flamenco country jazz blues world/ethnic folk blugrass slide its just about rock players
lol u really want to put joe walsh and brian may in the same list as jimi hendrix?
Top 10 not top 48
Thank you MOJO - a quality list!
Stevie Ray Vaughan 8#????!!!!! Something is wrong
Top 3 for sure
Soul Sister And Gilmour should be top 5
I agree 101%. SRV, literally the best ever
Agreed SRV can be considered the best, but Eric Clapton was at his best with Cream and Yardbirds
I get a kick out of some of the comments on here. So many of these guys were gimmick players..example Eddie Van Halen for one, when he did his "fancy/fast" stuff, he usually turned away, many did these imitation runs up and down the fretboard, sounded like something it's not...anyway, I also put BB king on this list..did you know in the mid 80's Clapton was due on stage, right after SRV...he walked off after Stevie played, asked the promoter.."how do I top that?"
Nicely said.
Also - No Mark Knopfler? Curious. Who made this list????!
Totally agreed
And 28 people agree with what you wrote!!!
This should be a most influential guitarists of all time
Page is #1 followed by Eddie Van Halen, jimmy Hendrix, and don’t forget jerry Cantrell From Alice In Chains. Also Stevie Ray Vaughan And Prince you two were amazing. Thank you for all the wonderful and unforgettable music you have all given us over the years and for all of you Who are gone Rest In Peace.
