- Shot as tests of a new Super 8 Revere camera. Catches everyday scenes of commuters, student activists, GI's, pensioners. Big Detroit gas hogs, little VW's and big BVG yellow buses, Krumme Lanke U-Bahn trains, etc. Watch for special appearance by SP5 Terry Jackson.
I was born and bred in Zehlendorf! I am also a 70's child, thank you so much for uploading.
Ho vissuto a Berlino in quel periodo. È rimasta nel mio cuore.
Bin in Zehlendorf 1961 geboren.
I took the A18 and the A1 to get to school from Stoelpchensee to Dahlem. Waited often at U-Bahnhof for my connection.Good times then...
In 1971 I had a 3-Line Monthly Pass that included the U-Bahn from Krumme Lanke to Ruhleben (and points in between) and bus Lines 11 and 53. The routes have been revised since then! I've enjoyed reunion trips into Dahlem.
Lived in Zehlendorf from '70 to '77. Many fond memories of my days there, great city, spent a lot of time at BB hanging with my friends. Thanks.

I served in A-3-6 at McNair from Feb.1961 until Aug.1963. Thanks for the memories.
Thanks for this trip down memory lane.
I lived in Berlin (Riemeisterstrasse, Zehlendorf) with my mother and sister from 1961 to 1963 (my father was stationed in Korea). We experienced the building of the wall. I recall McNair PX, commissary, US military school (which I attended), movie theater (now a museum), Officers' Club at Wannsee and much more. Entering the movie theater felt as if I was transported back in time: I recalled the ticket booth, the popcorn counter and the sign (in the foyer) which was lit when the national anthem played before a film: "please do not enter while the national anthem is being played" or something close to that.
I need to visit Berlin again.
Wow, that brings back memories. When Dad was stationed at Berlin Brigade in 1970-72, we lived in the Zehlendorf section of Berlin. I remember the Onkel Toms Hutte and Oskar Helene-Heim U-bahn stations. Amazing stuff! Thanks for sharing!
I was an exchange student in Berlin in 1970, and lived in Sven-Hedin-Strasse in Zehlendorf, a 5 or 10 minute walk from Krumme Lanke. If you'd been there a year earlier I might even have seen myself in the film. Fantastic memories - thanks for uploading.
Brilliant video, thank you! Word is, that's Jim Biernesser in the '73 high school jacket.
Vielen Dank für diese wundervolle Erinnerung-Danke.
What an amazing video! I was born in Zehlendorf in summer 1972 and it's just so cool to get the feeling for the city at that time. Thanks for uploading this!!
Randy Bell: I was at Templehof whey you were ... I was in the 1946 Comm Sq- Electronic operations on the 6th Floor ; end of Hallway.
I was in Berlin from 68-72. I lived at 12A Taylorstrasse housing the last 2 years in Berlin.
I Love Berlin and miss it very much!
Thank you all for your comments. When I shot it, I wanted to show my family back home in the U.S. some everyday scenes. It's just lucky this film survived a half dozen moves, multiple border crossings, and exposure to heat. I hope that you have the time to visit my website, "Berlin 1969" for some stills.
Great video! Wached it several times over the past years. Do you have more similar videos like this? Most of the time I grew up in Berlin Zehlendorf and I’m always wondering what life was like from 1945 to 1994. would love to see more Videos like this.
My Hometown and district! Thank you for a glimpse into another time of it! Especially since i was born in 71. I remember the busses with the 4 winged doors. But the underground with the black roof i can't remember. Amazing!
As a resident you may have seen the villa at Sven-Hedin-Strasse 11:

thank you for sharing this, i was born 1982 in east part so i´m happy to see what berlin like in this years
Thanks for sharing this, like many other commenters, I grew up in that part of Berlin and of course this brings back many memories....
I served in A-2-6 at McNair from 1970-1971. These views are so familiar to me. Thank you so much for posting this video.
I grew up at Sven-Hedin-Str., close to Krumme Lanke and Mexicoplatz... a bit later in the eighties. Thanks for the great flashback!
There is now a history of the villa at Sven-Hedin-Strasse 11 at
www.berlin1969.com/stories-geschichte/sven-hedin-strasse-11/
Berlin is the only place I can remember seeing double-decker buses in right hand traffic.
Hey Randy, Walt, and R. W. my family lived in Berlin at same time. My dad was in the USAF, stationed at Templehof from about 4/67 till 12/69. We lived in the Sundgauer housing area. Have good memories from our time there.
We (my sister and me) know this all, we were children from the south of West-Berlin ( *1963 and *1960-my sister) and remember this time very well. We went there with mother and grandfather for trips and so forth.
It was a wonderful time with nice people and without cruelty or dirt in the BVG or so.
Thanks for the Berlin memories. Was stationed there '68-'70 at the ASA Field Station.
Great video. I was born in 1992 and grew up in Dahlem...always wondered what it must have been like when the US troops were still stationed in Berlin...thanks for the insight :).

Toller Film. Ja, das war schön früher.
The good old years, the Starlight grove was a great hangout without the distance of downtown for a brew to drink
Eine kleine Welt! I lived on Sven-Hedin Str. also at that time. The villa that I roomed in is in a TH-cam release of the 1968 U.S. Army counter-espionage training film. It plays the part of the bad guys' rendezvous point.
Thats ironic...I was there when they were filming it. Never heard it called a Villa..Although I did have a patio that looked out over the grounds. We probably used the same putz frau for laundry and ironing. I do recall the huge refrigerator that accomodated a case of BerlinerKindl no problem. My parting words..Doornkaat zum guten bier
Excellent !
@dan1701a -- It's fun reading comments from people who were there at that time. I wasn't around Clayallee as much as some, but there always was something or someone interesting to see when I did get there.
@rwrynerson you made my day ! Thanks !
Nice film, Bob. Brings back great memories. Bob Booker HHC BBde G2 Security April 67 - October 69.
This is for Bob Booker...G2? You may have worked with my late brother George Hazel...he worked as direct report to SGM Ponish
@@Zooboo1 - I don't recall either name, Zooboo. Might have been before or after me.
This footage was taken a year and a half after I left . My wife and I lived at 3C Dupplestrasse in Zehlendorf from NOV67 to NOV69. What a great town and a great time in our life. I was in the USAFSS at the time and stationed at Marienfelde.
We probably saw each other in 69.
+Randy Bell We lived at 7A Am Hegewinkel during that same period. I was also in USAFSS working at Marienfelde in the swamp.
Can you add some background audio? And also Berlin was nice and spacey back then.
zehlendorf forever
Top!!!
...wie, was! 1971 gab es schon den "Gorbatschow Wodka" ???. Siehe 3:02 Film-Szene.
And, the Berlin Brigade of not just the Army, but the U.S. Army. :-)
Now this is called U3?
When this was filmed, the routes were arranged to take the Wall split into account. The Krumme Lanke line ended at Gleisdreieck via Buelowstrasse. It was designated as Line U2. Now it is the Line U3 on the end where the film was shot.
I had lived at 25 Hohenzollern strasse before Housing
Nice apartment
11 Sven Hedin Strasse was my home from Oct 67 thru Jan69. I looked up some info that you might be interested in. Sven Hedin was a surveyor of roads in China late 1800s early 1900s. Adolf Hitler befriended him and they were socially friends. The poop that I remember in the HOUSE was that it was Gen Eisenhowers HQ after the WW2. The house at Sven Hedin Str. was more like an estate and when you were assigned there ...there was a pecking order. I was relegated to the attic-3rd floor until one of the occupants on the lower level rotated or was reassigned. As a draftee I was certainly one of the fortunate who could have just as easily been sent to Vietnam. The HOUSE was home to various Intel folks and an adjoining building that JROC utilized. There were a few VOPO visitors to the estate and one in particular I recall was twixt and between about his defection. He was 19 years old had a wife and a new born and decided that he would go back and face the music. He knew that going back would mean at the least prison. His associate took the monitary reward and resettled in the Fed Republic. One other thought---VW owners of campers should know that the Sven Hedin camper was named after Hitler's good buddy.
+Zooboo Blotsky I'm gradually working on the history of that 1915 villa. You can read about it in my website at www.berlin1969.com/#/sven-hedin-strasse-11/504570826 . I have not run across General Eisenhower, but its first post-war resident was a Soviet general who was not clear on the whole sector concept.
The address for the web history of the House at Sven-Hedin-Strasse 11 has changed and much more has been added. It's still not finished, but can be reached via www.berlin1969.com/stories-geschichte/sven-hedin-strasse-11/504570826/
@@rwrynerson great read!..good job.
The address has been changed again. It is
www.berlin1969.com/stories-geschichte/sven-hedin-strasse-11/
and we now know that General Eisenhower dropped in for a drink on the house in 1945 when it was the Press Club. The American part of the history of the house is located at

@@rwrynerson look forward to seeing Bob...would it be ok to add some more personal relevant history to my stay there?
ok. that`s the way it was. 5*
2:34 i SO want that letter jacket, if anyone knows how to get one of these, message me!
Add some background audio. This video is lifeless without any.
