I never thought it was about a break up, the symbolism and focus on a woman with a baby was so strong. One look into her eyes, her hovering about like an angel, running down a corridor, seemingly like between life and death, towards a woman being resuscitated, then a newborn being brought to her, convinced me and my heart about her...how a baby means so much to her still...made me not only cry, but to pause about my life since my ex wife lost two...Britney you are never alone in this life or the next. The abortion pills didn't become available until September 28th, 2000. Britney claims she had the abortion in 2000, so it would have had to be after that date. I just looked up the Britney Spears and Nsync tour dates for 2000. After September 28th (the absolute earliest date she could have gotten the pills) she was touring in Europe doing nightly shows, and Nsync was touring in the US, again doing nightly shows. They weren't even on the same continent! I already knew she was lying because you can't get the abortion pills without a doctor, and she said she didn't tell anybody but Justin including a doctor. The fact that they weren't even on the same continent at all proves he couldn't have gotten her pregnant.

It's been three years since the conservatorship ended and I'm still concerned about her. And I'm beyond furious that NOTHING has been done about her abusers. Another infuriating factor is that people still continue to shame and mock her. The rest of Hollywood doesn't seem to give a s**t about her either.

Beyond heartbreaking!
This song makes perfect sense after 20 years. A true artist. So sad, but so beautiful in a sense that we all didn't know her demons. When this song came out, it was so unlike of her other songs & made me think "What is going on here?" It is definitely her masterpiece. An apologetic song to her unborn child, whom she gave her virginity to the love of her life, only to be screwed over by him & her family. It's very tragic.

I vividly remember the first time I saw this video and thinking it sounded like a terribly sad lullaby.
And with all we've learned, I can't help but believe she wrote this for her baby while she was navigating through grief.

She didn’t. She’s confirmed it was just about her breakup. The lullaby type sound is simply because she had relatively rudimentary piano skills. It adds a beautifully haunting layer to the song, but that is just a coincidence. Her and her cowriter confirmed it was not about her abortion and that Britney had no say in the video concept.
Here, like everyone else, listening to this with a new perspective. Crying my eyes out screaming. I, too, lost my baby because a man wanted me too and I was to young to know I had other options. This has always been my favorite by Britney and now it makes sense. I'll have this on repeat for awhile thinking of what my unborn child would be like today. What could have been. He chose to leave this world before entering it. He was born sleeping at 9 months. 16 ¹/² years later and I still cry for my son. Sending you lots of love and hugs. 🫂

I’m in tears knowing she tried to tell us so much and was hurting so badly in silence, while JT was living his life as though nothing happened, throwing her to the media wolves. This world owes Britney some love right now.
You need ro also remember her and Justin were still only young. They were both put under a lot of pressure from a young age, their relationship was constantly all over the media, who knows who else was all up in their relationship at the time too, influencing whom knows what. We are only hearing one side to this too. Justin has also admitted to many past mistakes, that he regrets and states he was very arrogant back then. People are constantly on the blame Justin train for everything. We now glorify Brits past mistakes due to mental health, and Justin still cops backlash. They ensured she had the bare minimum education from 14 onward because she was their cash cow just needed to perform. They allowed her to be put In adult situations that she was not mature enough to be in, and when she did get older, she never learned how to ease her way into anything because she was thrown into adulthood and missed that experimental time of her life. She was 16 when her first album was released. Before that she worked for Disney as a stage performing Mouseketeer. So yes, you’re right, she made choices, but only look at the circumstances that led her to make the type of choices that she made, None of us can fully understand the impact of being a super celebrity at such a young age.
The fact that she fantasized about dying to see the baby she was pressured into giving up, enough to make this song and video makes me so repulsed with jt on such a new level. It should have been so obvious what she was trying to say with this.

The fact that the tune of the entire song is a baby’s lullaby is absolutely heartbreaking and haunting. I remember watching this video as a teen and thinking “I wonder what this means, the video is so dark and sad.” Now as an adult (still a huge fan) rewatching this it all makes perfect sense now.
