Controller works Heathrow Tower on VATSIM!

Re GA flying into EGLL, I once (over 25 years ago) witnessed a light aircraft land on 27L. It didn't take long to stop, so it did a U-ey on 27L (!) oblivious to a Saudi 747 that was on short finals. The Saudi had to go around.

So being a tower controller can you actually get a view of the airport and have a look at the landings or do you just have an over view of the airfield?

I would try and get 2 screens with one laying on desk and a second one in front with the actual heathrow with planes

I believe so, you can log in as an Observer (OBS) and configure Euroscope however you like!

Most of the VATSIM clients will sync other aircraft into each pilot's simulator.

Clarky could you point me in the right direction to get started in controlling in VATSIM? In the real world I've got most of my private pilot done (helicopter), but in the VATSIM world I'd like to start in the ATC side. I have 4.5 years real world experience as Clearance Delivery at Portland Tower (Oregon, US), and was immersed in the ATC environment there between Tower and Tracon. Although it's been September of 93 since I last spoke on an FAA radio, the tens of thousands of clearances I recited are still burned into memory. Picking that up in VATSIM would be a non-issue, then I'd like to progress to Ground, Tower, and on up. But as I've only discovered VATSIM within the past 36 hours or so, have signed up, but have been unable to determine exactly where to start to get into it. Do I need to test? Speak with the right person? Could you just give me a heading? Or a contact point? Can't make heads or tails of this whole thing.

It depends on where you are really, as each region of the globe normally has a local VATSIM section. In the UK you need to go through an Observer course, followed by getting your S1 rating (Ground), which can take a few months as it's run by volunteers. It may be different in the US, but I would start by finding your local VATSIM section and digging into their forums :-)
