- I am now a S1 controller at ZKC on VATSIM! Come fly STL sometime and say hi. This video showcases what it is like to be a ground controller on the network. Really cool. I'm a recently retired airline captain and fly on VATSIM and PilotEdge these days when using FS2020. I am considering becoming an Air Traffic Controller on VATSIM at some point. Good to see you are enjoying it!

This is interesting. It feels like a foreign language at times. But over time, it gets easier to understand. I respect everyone who does this in simulation, but especially IRL. It's not easy.

My thoughts talking to ground at my local international airport. It just becomes second nature
Best way to practice is by writing it down. Then you can't forget it.
Try controlling APP or CTR and doing that top down meaning your the only controller for every airport in your airspace.

You know when I first started VATSIM in 2011, I've always wondered why this never became a thing for you (I rememebr you're old fly with me series back in the day). Can't believe that was more than 10 years ago, now flying at a major carrier.

I just started this week. I am at the Salt Lake ARTCC facility. I have done one sweatbox session so far at Bozeman airport. After one more training session I may be able to go live supervised. ☺️
As someone with an accent that naturally pronounces 3 as 'tree', I appreciate the accuracy to the phonetic language on the radio, I literally automatically correct myself to a normal accent unconsciously when I'm on a radio.

Hey man sorry I was at on the ball that day wasn't feeling the greatest but decided to give it a try and then on top of that my sim being wonky and thanks for being so chill and appreciative from swa1855
I got my S1 just over a year ago, but I never pursued actual training cause of busy classes and I just enjoy the pilot side of simming more, but maybe some day I'll finish it off...
This is so cool and because its real players / people, Anything could happen like the real deal!

Congrats Jeff! I'm getting my rating soon to control in Australia. Here in Australia, we go straight to S2 rating as the first rating you can get. Over here we also use a programe called VATSYS which is used for all controlling positions!
What a difference to Europe. Over here Euroscope is dominating.

It’s difficult enough training to become a pilot. As a newb, I’m terrified about messing up. There’s so much to keep track of in your head. My ADHD brain would not be able to do this job at all. You must have an eidetic memory.

Hello another VATSIM controller (S2) here, welcome to the club. I am based out of ZLA and quick question is STL a major?
I passed my vatsim test for pilots, but haven’t connected to the network yet because i don’t think i can listen that fast and write down to read back, do you have any tips?
New pilots we will read it slower to you or send a PDC (pre departure clearance)

@@jfavignano Wow. That's actually not too bad. I imagine it is harder and takes longer to get into the busier airports, but I don't mind taking my time to work my way too it. I'm looking to start pursuing my private pilot license sometime next year, so learning all of this stuff now will give me a solid foundation to start from when I actually start the real life process. Thanks for the quick response.
