    Even when you think you know enough about Reaper to get through your day, along comes Kenny with videos more geared for beginners and still learn something! This channel is the best. Happy New Year, Kenny and looking forward to more great info from you in 2023!

    Thank you! That was so incredibly helpful! I've been using Reaper for 2 weeks now and I can't see myself going back to anything else unless a collaborator insists. Reaper lets you customize pretty much everything in your workflow. Thanks for throwing the track color shortcut tip in there!

    Thank you, Kenny for your work. I'm on PC Windows 10 and to bring up Options in Reaper is Ctrl P. I wouldn't have known that if I didn't watch you. So, thx again. Now I'm on the right path to learning Reaper.

    I'm pretty much brand new to Reaper. I must say I was quite overwhelmed the first time I loaded up into Reaper, thinking I may never figure out what I'm doing, but these videos have been a huge help in getting a jump start on making some nice quality recordings. Many thanks.

      Ha ha, yeah, it took me a bit to find it (way before this video) one day when i didn't have a controller connected. Love Reaper but i do get why some people don't (option overload).

    Midi Overdub is such an amazing feature for drum programming! Thank you Kenny for teaching me this today. I’ve been a “This is Reaper 6” as I am producing my first EP and you’ve been so helpful in that process.

    again, excellent, sir. as a senior, though, i am still not too open to 'quantizing', but yet know i have to know its proper methods / procedures. i believe my 'ear' or hearing style appreciates the nuances, even misses of un-quantized music. i want to say such is more 'natural', 'live'.- whatever. much appreciation for your instructional videos.

    •  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you prefer unquantized music, you can quantize then use humanize to add a bit of randomness to the rythmic alignment (and velocity). Or you could choose the amount of quantization (from 0 to 100%, depending on the material), to keep a bit of the original performance (60 to 80% is usually a good amount).

    • @crysstoll1191
      @crysstoll1191 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you can do as Toko suggests and that will get you at least part way but it will Not put the Parliament Funkadelic grooves to your music. Ha ha i doubt there's anything yet even with ML that will do that.
      I'm "old" and wasn't exposed to gridded out 4/4 music until i had been involved as a noise maker and serious listener for about 2 decades or so. Tangerine Dream and Berlin style electronic music was my first, then some disco but these still are full out gridded out. When i first heard "psychedic trance" was probably my intro. I didn't like it but strangely i was invited to open a bunch of PT festivals. Should mention, a fantastic crowd of people, much different than any other electronic style of dance music or bands mostly for that matter.
      Modern sequencers can really push the grid although they certainly don't need to.

    If I use my MIDI-keyboard, connected with MIDI-input of my sound card (Steinberg), I should use "USB MIDI keyboard" as setting or smth else?
    And some vst (SWAM as example) didn't work with virtual midi keyboard. Maybe I do smth wrong? Make a video about midi vst connection, pls.

    Crap...I just downloaded Reaper (v7.09) yesterday, and it looks so different to this for some reason. I'm doing my best to follow along, though I can't seem to get the midi keyboard to actually do anything (I don't have a usb one, so I'm using the virtual keyboard). I'll press the keys, and no sound appears. I'll edit this if I figure it out.

    Hi Kenny, I want Reaper to control external midi devices, but my midi output devices aren't being recognised by Reaper (they don't show up at all in the midi output device list in preferences). They are recognised by other software just fine. Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Does anyone else experience the audio dropping from time to time while watching Reaper or other videos on TH-cam? I will have to pause and backup slightly and then resume watching. Or is this a iOS problem on my AppleTV? I have the latest AppleTV and software is current.

    Amazing video series, thank you Kenny! I had a quick MIDI question though: I bought a few VSTs/Sample Packs, and one of them was strings: I pulled in a oneshot of a cello into ReaSamplOmatic5000, and the length was about 6.8 seconds for one note. I figured out how to trim the note played, but when I select "Note (Semitone shifted)", the pitch changes and sounds fine, but the length of each note that I play is either extended or increased depending on whether I choose a lower or higher note from the original. (example: regular note is 6.8 seconds, but playing a whole step down is 7.4 seconds, and playing a whole step up is 6.2 seconds) Is there a way to address that? Is it because it's a midi sample pack and it doesn't work the same as typical effects? (sorry new to MIDI).

    • @joecrowe7062
      @joecrowe7062 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      maybe trying sound edit the sample and shorten it before you drop it in which you can do with reaper sound editor
      i could be wrong but make a new sample file all together

    If only there weren't ten thousand million different steps to take just to get Reaper to play MIDI. I've used Cakewalk (their old stuff) as MIDI editors, and it's by FAR simpler to use. Right now, I am trying to edit a MIDI I found on the internet but cannot for the life of me get the sounds to change. I want to change a synth brass sound to a trumpet and nope. Nothing I do works. I've created new tracks that have a trumpet sound assigned to it, but to make matter worse, opening up the piano roll only plays a "piano" sound on the keyboard on the left. If I copy and paste the events from the synth brass track into the new "trumpet" track, the notes are still synth brass, and the piano roll piano plays a piano sound. -__- Pulling my hair out.

  • @afreen5058
    @afreen5058 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This video sucks, there's no mention of the MIDI events not being read by the controller even if you can play and hear sound, it doesn't register as saved MIDI events on the piano roll
