Hi, Thanks for the videos. When I double click on my new track it opens up the piano roll just like you did but , on the left hand side I'm seeing a keyboard and not the blanks where I can import the drum names. What am I doing Wrong? Thanks!
Beautifully explained in noob terms for people like me, nice video resolution good volume and no annoying music in the backgroundg...ohhh my God! Thanks!
This should be the standard on how to make a tutorial. It was so incredibly helpful. I'm not kidding, I was able to record my first drum track immediately after watching this video. All using headphones without disturbing my neighbors. And I've never studied drums before. So thank you so much and all the best!
Hi, thanks for tutorial, just a little feedback - 8:30 when you select to quantize only selected notes, it actually unquantizes your other notes, that you have already quantized (kick, snare).
You’re my new god! I spent so many days reading forums and messing around and could not get my Alesis Strike Pro kit to record on Reaper. Thanks so much for this tutorial. So simple and it’s all working!
GOOD I'm starting and I've seen dozen of videos on HOW TO on your DAW.... This is the first one that actually worked. You get to the point, mention critical things, don't waste time on silly things and don't spend time showing off how cool you are and how awesome and incredible things you can do. Great video. 10 minutes were I actually did learn something.
Finally! I was honestly getting very aggravated trying to figure this out on my own, and most reaper tutorials are kinda annoying and telling me stuff ive already figured out. I subscribed immediately. Thank you.
Thank you very much for the drums tutorial in Reaper. I am coming from Ableton Live 8 to Reaper and I am new to this DAW. So far I love it. Thanks for a great tutorial.
Covered every question I had about setting up drum grooves in Reaper. Very well done. See comment below about the fact that when you quantized the hand claps, you actually "unquantized" the other drums. Something else handy to know is that once you have set up the groove, you can send different notes to different channels and use the Reasampler, Slate Trigger etc. to use different drums sounds for each drum. It takes a bit to set up but once it's done you can reuse it.
Hi there...its 2020 (i know right..!!??!! ) and this video is still extremely useful...just watched it and am going to utilize virtually every single concept mentioned here on Reaper this very night. I hadn't even looked into it yet and i noticed this on the sidebar and thought 'ooh thats timely'....i laughed when i saw the video was 5 years old...it was released just in time for me to find it five years later..... Phew !!! that was lucky...
Hey, thanks very much, I'm a guitarist wanting to get started on recording, but I didn't know where to start on the drums. this was very helpful and easy to understand.
Great tutorial! Tis is the clearest and most useful reaper video i've seen so far. You covered a lot more than just drums. Just migrated to reaper from the built in DAW on my Korg. Now if I could get sorted on replication/repeats I'd be sorted.
I'm currently using a trial version of Reaper and it doesn't appear to have the TTS-1 plugin that supposedly comes with it....I want to purchase Reaper but not unless I can have access to this. Can anyone point me to where I might download this plugin?
Ohhh! I understand. I downloaded a different drum kit and will have to figure out how to use it! I am a beginner with this program and this type of thing in general. Thanks!
+Charlotte Rose just created a new tutorial where I show you how to use the FREE MT Power Drum Kit. Watch that then watch this again. th-cam.com/video/JZe-CKu2G-o/w-d-xo.html
You are most welcome. Is there any chance that you could do a video on how to set up Kontakt Player (i.e., the free version) to play MIDI (drum tracks)?
Your videos are always great! I'm a non-drummer, have been playing with Reaper for a while, got a midi controller, and wanted to learn the most basic of basics with regards to making drum beats. This looks like what I'm looking for. I'll use this as well as the updated video you made for using MT Power Drum Kit. One question for you, not urgent, just if you happen to know off the top of your head: Have you played around with the kit you used for THIS video recently? If so, would be interested to know your thoughts with how the current version compares to the versions (reaper and cakewalk) you used when making this original video. Thanks again for your great content!
An alternative to using the arrow key to scroll to the note you want on the virtual keyboard, is to right click on a particular note. Right-clicking on a note will centre the note on the virtual keyboard, and may bring other, desired notes within easier reach.
Ah, must have Cakewalk TTS-1 because I have a couple of Cakewalk DAWs installed too. My bad. You can get round this if you don't have a Virtual GM instrument by enabling the MS Wavetable Synth in the MIDI settings, and then routing the hardware output of the track to that Synth.
Thanks this worked great for programing drums, but when I recorded my guitar over the drums everything was out of time upon playback. Do you have a video about solving this problem?
I have just recently purchased reaper & found this video which was exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately the instrument Cakewalk TTS-1 does not appear in my list of instruments?

Simply fantastic tutorial! Exactly the stuff you need to avoid hours of headaches just to get going as a beginner!

Agree 100%
Hi, thanks for tutorial, just a little feedback - 8:30 when you select to quantize only selected notes, it actually unquantizes your other notes, that you have already quantized (kick, snare).
This is how a TH-cam video should be done! Great job and thank you for sharing.
