Those little generators are awesome. I have a Honda one like that and it is wonderful. Runs quietly all day on a tank of gas and powers the essentials. Walking around in 100+ degree heat is not for me. It just saps my energy and all I can think of is getting into an AC environment. Even on a motorcycle it's not enough to cool down, as you know. I'm most comfortable in the low 70's. I don't know how people can endure living in that for weeks and months at a time. Loved the pallet house. What a shame people have no more respect for the area and their fellow man than to just dispose of their trash openly like that. Someone actually said "it's all about YOU"? Well, yeh, that's kind of the gist of the channel, is YOUR experiences and sharing them with us. People! He didn't even deserve a reply. It's YOUR channel to do with what YOU want. The Star Wars exhibit is really cool. It amazes me people have the materials, skills and vision to create stuff like that! Great stuff, Mark!
@9:47 ... there's a Naval gunnery range just east of Slab City. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management, it's an 1,100 acre military reservation near the Chocolate Mountains. Air forces from around the world practice live-bombing runs year-round over the restricted area. Squadrons fly out of Naval Air Facility El Centro in the Imperial Valley. Prince Harry's helicopter squadron trained here in 2011. NAFEC is the winter headquarters of the Blue Angels who kickoff the airshow season with a public demonstration in March. The Blue Angels practice over Shade Tree, a military reservation southwest of the Salton Sea. Thousands of snowbirds come down from the northern states and Canada to watch the Blue Angels train. NAFEC was designated the National Parachute Test Range during the space program. Its mission was to test the recovery systems on board the Gemini and Apollo spacecraft. Dummy modules were dropped over the Salton Sea from C-5A aircraft to test the reliability of parachute deployment. In World War II, NAFEC was a Marine Corps airbase. John Glenn and Charles Lindbergh served as flight instructors. Slab City was then a 250,000-acre Marine Corps base called Camp Dunlap. The slabs are a remnant of the former base. When the camp was decommissioned, there was confusion as to who held jurisdiction over the slabs. Was it the county of Imperial, the federal government, the Department of the Navy, or the state of California. Governor Jerry Brown decreed that it basically was no-man's land. Although it is legally an unincorporated area of Imperial County -- local Sheriff make random patrols -- the slabs have long been seen as the last free place in America.
I love seeing the types of things that I'd want to see shown here. I don't care if you are or are not talking to other people. I like these because they are of places that I want to visit, now that I know they exist
@@farzadsharim4355 I stay at the Ponderosa. It is a nice safe place to camp. I would advise camping there for a little while until you get a feel for the slabs meet some people and find your own spot. There are a couple of really great people to talk to for advice out there as well.
