All kidding aside, I’ve been coming to this place and Morro Bay my entire life and I’m 66 now. It can definitely be a party spot because of being allowed to drive on the beach, and in all honesty once or twice I would guess that I was part of The party problem… At least in the 80s. I figure the one star reviews put there by people like me that want the public to sort of ignore the fact that this is such a cool spot… And FWIW, here in California, often times camp hosts are brought in in addition to the Rangers that work there and they are not specifically full-time employees state system. And the truth is, those parks that have them, they can be very very variable!
People who feel "unsafe" in Pismo/Oceano basically should not leave their gated communities. They must be so incredibly sheltered that they'd be afraid of the shining afternoon sun.
@@piperreilly97 You might not read good, I wasn't suggesting there are gated communities in Oceano (although there are a few around 5 cities). I was saying the type of person who would be scared to camp out there must be from a gated community, scared of normal people living their life nearby.

One of my family members has been employed with the State Park for over 20 years. There is a park across the freeway that my family member frequently complains about. He said they play loud music and are very loud in general but the Park Service has nothing to do with that camp. Oceano Dunes camping area is going to have people who turn into idiots after drinking alcohol so don't have the expectation that it is ever going to be a quiet campground. On holiday weekends it is such a madhouse that my family member has to grocery shop 3 days prior because the campers wipe out Vons so do most of your shopping before you leave or in a city on the way there. My Mother loved the camp area you are at and took my niece and nephew there frequently when they were little.

Also there were a few homeless walking thru the campground at night. On the last night our neighbor across the way had there generator stolen out there truck. As a Cali Native, my childhood was spent roaming the PNW and Cali beaches. Best 2 ocean camps, imo, Pismo for Southies (who doesn't love clamming & beach bonfires. The Abalone fishing used to be phenomenal) & Patrick's Point for Northies (although I've heard some of the best spots have recently been closed for repairs. You still have amazing deep sea fishing, beautiful hiking trails and rock hounding on Agate Beach. BTW, we loved the campfire sing-a-longs with the rangers as kids. Prob 1 of the best campsnif your kids love the outdoors ). Arguments could be made for the Santa Cruz area, but honestly we only went there to forage mushrooms in the spring, so no RWE for comparison.
Nice you are the first one who has shown the location for the north Pismo Eucalyptus grove where the monarchs spend the winter. I happened to come here in the spring vacation and the were everyplace along an area of HWY 1. It was a glorious surprise. Oh one more think 2 stars the worse think in California campgrounds it the drone of honda generators all night long. I have had the rangers till me to nor play my guitar at night. thats fine but you couldn barely hear it 20 ft away because of the sound of generators. Only the sound PCH traffic at pt Magoo/Bloome beech is worse
Local here 😄 Loved your reviews!! You should come back during monarch season! I live five blocks from the monarch Grove and we can hear the frogs at night, They're hella Loud lol Glad you and your soap survived 😂
I live 30 minutes north of Oceana State Beach. We had our family reunion camp out there one year. In one night everybody got something stolen. With the trail that goes along the inlet and our campsite, that is how the thieves came in and out. Big ice, chest, full of food, lanterns, cookstoves, folding chairs, every campsite had something missing. Never went back!! Which is too bad because it truly is beautiful there. 😞
I spent four months from January to April 2024 in a rental house right across from the campsite you're reviewing. It was only $1100 a month, just a few yards from the beach. It was heavenly. Some loud "fireworks" (which were NOT fireworks) on the beach on the weekends but they always stopped by 11:00. There were homeless people but where in the US isn't homelessness a problem? It was affordable and exactly what I needed at the time. I do think it's a well kept secret and public perception is wildly variable depending on expectations and deeply held prejudice.
I camp in these two campgrounds all the time. Never feel unsafe but there are homeless that cruise thru the campgrounds so I do not leave valuables out or doors unlocked. Oceano campground can get pretty busy and loud late at night but isn't that common these days in most camping spots.
You should have driven up the 1 from there and stay at sunset beach camp. I remember as a kid staying at both camps kid. I think its by Watsonville. I also remember eating amazing cinnamon rolls somewhere in that area.
I lived near there for many years. I can't speak to the campsites but the nature walk and boardwalk are beautiful. There is a train that runs right past the campground but it doesn't run frequently-probably a couple times a day. It can be windy there. It's a popular beach for ATVs. .
When Ive gone camping usually the men in groups take turns staying awake until late or early morning and we travel with our guns and knifes incase. A group of people always stay behing in the camp grounds and take turns while the other group go out and get wet and fun. Until the last day when were all packed we all leave together for fun and come back just to drive off. Dont travel without weapons
Booyah 👊🏽 😁 👍🏽 🇺🇸 I love Oceano, and grover beach. SLO is the best. You usually need a six months or more reservations. Oceano campground is safe. Bathrooms and Showers are the best I have seen in a California State camp grounds. It the go to. Its a seven hour drive for me. 🌟⭐️🌟 🌟 🌟
Aloha, I literally used to live across the street from the butterfly park. The Monarch Park used to walk across the street worked overnight and I go sleep in the dunes in the morning. Make me really miss Pismo quite a bit. Thanks for the great video and content good luck on your journey.
Fun fact... Many notable chefs have actually recommended cooking steaks from frozen and as a fellow meat freezer myself, I can vouch for them on the suggestion, They cook perfectly well... or, perfectly rare... or, ...you get the point... on the grill or in the pan.
Ive camped there twice and go back next month no issues. Either people give negative reviews sibpepple dont go there or have overly high expectations of a state campground
Its a seasonal problem. When a bunch of campers decend on the park for a holiday weekend. The cleaning can't keep up. Bad behavior abounds, and the camp hosts and rangers get cranky while not being able to keep behavior under control. It's not a site specific problem, but beaches and lakes are bigger draws than other locations.
Check out local attractions maybe interact with other campers ask there opinions on the campground ask if they recommend other spots maybe compare 1 star vs 5 star idk I hope your channel grows.
First time visitor & new subscriber to the channel. Thanks for the video ! I suspect that some of the negative reviews were from campers who believed they were entitled to treat the gate attendants or hosts as supplicants. They might be able to get away with that at retail and service businesses but State employees don't have to lay down and endure that sort of crap. You were pleasant and respectful and the woman reciprocated. I sort of selfishly appreciate the bad reviews because they might result in the unpleasant jerks going somewhere else where the staff is expected to bow and scrape before the obnoxious and uncouth class of folks. 😃 PS, keep telling the dad jokes, they're fun !
I live in grover beach and love it. Grew up here, moved away, came back and so glad i did. If any one camps where he's staying you can walk their to the Monarch Grove between like Nov-Feb or to the Pismo Pier. My kid and I walked their last week and watched humpback whales feed and birds dive down like bombers to feed too. It was miraculous.
We stay at Pacific Coast Village right next door every year for 15 years but we do have family that stay where your at and they have had some theft issues there. Generator two years ago and two bikes last year.
When I was a Kid way back when, my family would come over here every other year & camp out with our little Trailer right up next to the Lagoon. The ducks were always there to greet us & my Sister & I would always have a ball feeding them. Back then the whole campground was much smaller (& Cruder) & simpler, if I remember correctly. Bonus - the biggest thrill for me on one of the trips : during the day we went over next door, to "Grover City" & checked out this little Thriftstore in a quonset hut next to the railroad tracks. It was there where I found a childhood treasure : a slightly used 10-cent issue of Batman featuring "Batman & Robin battle the Rainbow Monster". That made my whole trip & I was thoroughly entertained for the rest of our stay (along with the butterscotch "windy beach sanded" hard candies from the Pier liqour store down the street). Very fond Memories.
I love when my hometown makes it onto a review video. Five cities is great except for housing prices and healthcare provider selection, but that is almost every coastal California area.
This is my 1st video of yours that I watched. I LOL'ed numerous times! You a funny dude! New subscriber now! I'll go check out the rest of your vids. Thank you for your "work"!
Lived in arroyo grande all my life and I’m 30. It’s always the pretentious people always putting the place down. “It’s camping” and people are on vacation and life still happens when you are on the edge of a town that has an active train station. If you’re an easygoing person this place is the most chill place to be , if you’re a snob, you’ll feel out of place 💕😬. Plain and simple.
Subscribed. Good editing. We camped here a couple years ago and were afraid to leave anything unlocked because in the dunes was a homeless encampment. Friend and I stayed up late drinking and sitting by the fire. A homeless guy kept making rounds on his bike and whistling to his homies to signal people were still awake we assumed. We had expensive mountain bikes and definitely locked them up along with our Blackstone grill. Nothing got stolen but the camp hosts told us about the theft of valuables happening quite often. Other than that everything was great. Looks like from your video it’s been maintained better and hopefully the homeless problem was taken care of.
@@karrpoollane I have no idea how or if they cleaned up the homeless camp. It was the dunes near the entrance of the campground and the beach. Wife and I walked a path to get to the beach and couldn’t believe all the trash and homeless people. We turned around and found a trail further down towards the end of the campground that led to the beach. Another thing, all that bird shit is from the cormorants sleeping in the trees, not ducks😂
Super funny and likable guy. How can you not subscribe to his channel? I love the entire central California coast. It’s so beautiful. Thanks for a fun and entertaining post! ✌🏻👍🏻✌🏻
We stayed here last summer. I saw you walk by where we stayed, near that walking/bike path. We felt fairly safe but logically you don't leave your stuff out. I can attest to the trains lol. Not a big deal. I didn't sleep well but it wasn't because I didn't feel safe. Had a great time with the family. Walking to the Butterfly place was cool. Just relax and enjoy yourself. 😊
Personally, I don't doubt people's experiences. They must have arrived at peak times or on a holiday to encounter so many people. General rule is not to leave your stuff unsecure at all even in a campground. Stuff gets stolen, people abuse the camping, bathrooms get dirty. IT seems you came at a time when school isn't out yet and there are no holidays to bring people in. Sounds like bad timing.
Those bad reviews were probably during holidays, specifically 7/4! We try to be there every 7/4 just south where your 1st campsite across the lil bridge past the Elks club campsite, i think that's the name. We call it the horseshoe, a great secluded area!
I liked your video, but how do you manage to get a spot? I want to start solo Motorcycle camping and EVERY time I look for sites up and down the coast they are ALL booked. I can't plan six months in advance. Sometimes I just want to hop on the bike and go (in a perfect world, ride half a day or so, find a spot to camp, and do it again the next day, and the next for a few days to a week). I realize there are a certain number of spots that are first come first serve, but I can't load everything up and ride for hours on the off chance of getting one. I'd be fine dispersed camping if any is available and somewhat secluded along the coast (tent camping). All that being said, I have very fond memories camping with my parents and siblings at Pismo and Bass Lake (they had a membership, same owners had both places) back in the late 80's-90's.
I haven’t had much of an issue finding spots as long as it’s not a holiday. But I know what you mean. Just pick the worst campgrounds and hope they have a spot.

That’s awesome. RIP Grandma Shirley.
Thanks for the video, lots of memories of Grover beach and Oceano. Don’t forget to stop at old Juan’s!
Same. I love it over there. Missed out on Old Juan’s this last time but I had it again about 2 months ago
when i was a kid in the early 80's i saw a snake show at that little stage area - forever memory
I am really enjoying this series of 1 star camp ground reviews. More please. I love your positive authenticity. Subscribed.
Thank you for saying this and for watching & subscribing. More coming soon 😌
😂 - we camp at Oceano multiple times a year. Your review is spot ON!
Thank you
I love this!! The complaints about ducks pooping 😂 and lack of butterflies after a known disaster. Thanks for a fun review.
Thank you 🙏
Nice you are the first one who has shown the location for the north Pismo Eucalyptus grove where the monarchs spend the winter.
Can you get rid of the frogs so I can go back?
I am from that area and yes, it is a party campground for the locals.
Awww man. That sucks
1st time for this channel. LOVE IT. this guy is AWESOME
needed a great laugh today. Thx for your humor!
Thanks for laughing with or at me. I appreciate it. 😊
That lady Megan was awesome! That is the perfect example of great customer service care! Kudos to her!
She’s the best
I spent four months from January to April 2024 in a rental house right across from the campsite you're reviewing. It was only $1100 a month, just a few yards from the beach. It was heavenly. Some loud "fireworks" (which were NOT fireworks) on the beach on the weekends but they always stopped by 11:00. There were homeless people but where in the US isn't homelessness a problem? It was affordable and exactly what I needed at the time. I do think it's a well kept secret and public perception is wildly variable depending on expectations and deeply held prejudice.
That’s a great price for a rental house!
@@karrpoollaneIt was a furnished place that rents to traveling nurses. I wasn’t working while I was there but glad I’m a nurse!
Oh yeah! There’s the cinnamon roll place called old west or something. It’s sooo good.
I lived near there for many years. I can't speak to the campsites but the nature walk and boardwalk are beautiful. There is a train that runs right past the campground but it doesn't run frequently-probably a couple times a day. It can be windy there. It's a popular beach for ATVs. .
Yeah you can actually hear the train when I’m reading the second review I think.
Booyah 👊🏽 😁 👍🏽 🇺🇸
I love Oceano, and grover beach.
SLO is the best.
You usually need a six months or more reservations.
Oceano campground is safe.
Bathrooms and Showers are the best I have seen in a California State camp grounds. It the go to. Its a seven hour drive for me. 🌟⭐️🌟 🌟 🌟
That pronunciation of “Palm-Olive” was wild 😂
So close 😂
@@karrpoollane 😂 I had to make sure I haven’t been pronouncing it wrong this whole time. First time coming across your content; subscribed!
Palm alive 😂
Watching your hometown being reviewed is absolutely funny too me 😂
I used to live in Pismo and I miss it so much. Great video! You are hysterical 😭 great sense of humor. Thank you for the laughs. Following for more!
I used to live there too! I love it. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
I’ve camped there, north beach and at the KOA Avila. There isn’t a bad campground in the pismo area. I give Oceano 5 stars anyway of the week.
I agree
Aloha, I literally used to live across the street from the butterfly park. The Monarch Park used to walk across the street worked overnight and I go sleep in the dunes in the morning. Make me really miss Pismo quite a bit. Thanks for the great video and content good luck on your journey.
I love pismo so much. Thanks for watching
I used to live across the street and the tracks from monarch butterfly give too! I miss it so much!!!
Fun fact...
Many notable chefs have actually recommended cooking steaks from frozen and as a fellow meat freezer myself, I can vouch for them on the suggestion,
They cook perfectly well... or, perfectly rare... or, ...you get the point... on the grill or in the pan.
Ohhh good to know. I probably would have messed it up, especially on my janky grill.
Morro bay more family oriented, same with Montana deoro, pismo more of a rowdier area with beach access for ATV
Ive camped there twice and go back next month no issues. Either people give negative reviews sibpepple dont go there or have overly high expectations of a state campground
Your vision of the gargantuan frog- toad was lovely 🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸 & eye ballers fish was a one ⭐️ certainly 😮
Awesome video! Production quality, content, A+. Where do you get your music for these?!
Thanks for watching! I get my music from artlist
Where do I get one of those beautiful table top mini fireplaces you had?!!
I got mine at overland expo I think. But I believe they have the one I have on Amazon.
@@karrpoollane thanks for replying! I was looking on Amazon and I can't find one. I'll adjust my search terms and keep looking. It's really lovely :)
Back in the 50s we used to go there with the trailer during clamming season, have nothing but good memory's.
It’s a beautiful place
Love Oceano. Trailer camp there 2-3 times per year. Different Campground nearby.
Check out local attractions maybe interact with other campers ask there opinions on the campground ask if they recommend other spots maybe compare 1 star vs 5 star idk I hope your channel grows.
Thanks man. I’m planning on doing that. I think it would be good to interview campers.
I grew up in morro bay and those areas camping has always been a hapoy experience since 1960, sometimes its just your preception, never had problems

Ha! I’m usually out of service when lit, too.
I like Oceano State Park (in the RV portion) BUT our dog got ticks (yuck!). North Beach is great!! We love it there.
Excellent video. Love the comments, right on. Go Megan!
Megan rocks!
This must be the 6th video of this channel I've watched tonight. The Temu video was funny. Subscribed today.
PS, keep telling the dad jokes, they're fun !
I agree. Thanks for watching and subscribing and extra thanks for encouraging the dad jokes! 😂
Just found your channel on my feed…so enjoyed it thanks for sharing…we love to camp too
Thanks for enjoying it!
No early check in is common in California State Parks. Some won't even let you in to wait unless you pay the day use fee.
We stay at Pacific Coast Village right next door every year for 15 years but we do have family that stay where your at and they have had some theft issues there. Generator two years ago and two bikes last year.
Aw man. That sucks
Best 1 star place!
You are funny lol
I laughed just at the video title as a frequenter knowing exactly which campground this is. Went exactly as expected.
😂
Dude that’s a cleanest campground bathroom I’ve ever seen!
I agreeeee.
Thank you for watching and for the kind comment. Welcome to the channel!
Dude you're dry humor had me and my wife busting up good video!!!
Oh no way. Thats scary. Thats good that the camp host warned you at the time.
2nd video of yours im watching as a frequent ca coastal camper.
Pretty funny bro. Good work.
Thank you! And thanks for watching
Hahaha frogs are cool dude!!! This place seems like a great spot, and Meghan was the best!! Thanks for the review! ❤
Super funny and likable guy. How can you not subscribe to his channel? I love the entire central California coast. It’s so beautiful. Thanks for a fun and entertaining post!

Thanks for the kind words and subscribing. I appreciate it a lotta bit!
You're hilarious. 😂😂 And these videos are informative.... Great shots. 😊
@8:06 "Bohemian Grove sacrificial stage" 😂
Am I wrong 😂??
That FJ and trailer set up is nice
It was very nice! 👍🏾
Thank you for watching. Glad to hear you didn’t have a horrible experience
At 25.50, there's an ostrich on your shirt 😂 I found your hidden talent "shadowgraphy" 😂😂😂
Nice little Easter egg 😂
Personally, I don't doubt people's experiences. They must have arrived at peak times or on a holiday to encounter so many people. General rule is not to leave your stuff unsecure at all even in a campground. Stuff gets stolen, people abuse the camping, bathrooms get dirty.
IT seems you came at a time when school isn't out yet and there are no holidays to bring people in. Sounds like bad timing.
Just went camping at the OC one and one of the best campgrounds I've been to. I left the good soap out and no one took it either lol
