I like Dot. I have a lot of friends who are something like her. I would get stressed out having so much stuff though. I like keeping things to a minimum. I don't want to own anything that I don't use on a regular basis.

Been waiting for this one! That whole place fascinates me. Everything about it fascinates, and also baffles me.
You answered my first question right off the bat - no law enforcement whatsoever. So these people can possess or take as much of whatever mind-altering substances they want without fear, and I assume in anti-gun California, there are plenty of guns in there in violation of local and state laws. Yet, with all the illegal activity, I imagine the place is pretty trauma-free. Funny how that works.
I could tell Dot was a free spirit as soon as she started talking. But of course it comes with the territory.
Taxidermy dinner party. Zombie apocalypse. Archive. The Fonz. Chickens crapping all over every surface of her home. How does one acquire a junked 1951 Greyhound? A boutique dress shop. James Brown. A gift shop. Unicorn seahorse. A skeletorium. I never even knew there was an actual place called East Jesus! I've heard people say something was in East Jesus but always thought it was just a colloquialism for the middle of nowhere. Who knew! I could spend all DAY in her place just exploring the intricacies and asking questions. I bet it's an interesting library.
I have endless questions:
Do people exist there rent/tax-free? And can they take up as much space as they want? Can someone just decide to move there and no one stops them?
How do they get a shower? How do they go to the bathroom? How do they get electricity?
Where do they get food and necessities?
How do these people BUY what they need - are they all trust fund recipients? And if so, where do they keep their money?
How does one accumulate such a collection of oddities? Obviously she is not mobile with all that stuff and is pretty much stuck there unless she wants to just abandon it all.
What is her story? How she got there and how she lives.
What do they do for medical/dental care?
I have so many questions, I don't even know what ones to ask! That place and its people are a real study, and ever since "Into the Wild", I have had endless curiosity about it. It's hard to believe a place like that exists. I will have to explore her sites.
Thank you for revisiting this spot and one of its denizens! I hope you'll go back again for another one. This was on par on the cool factor with Alien guy! I think you should have a "Dot's Place" sticker on your windshield too!
I just got a neat new custom made accessory for my bike, which no one else in the whole country has at this time, and I will make a video about it shortly. I had a guy in Australia make it for me and it took a month of multinational Customs and shipping time to get here. We're supposed to have some nice weather this week here in Virginia. 😎🏍👌🏍🏍🏍😜👍👉👉🕶👽🛸

They can get water delivered. You can make an outhouse. You can get solar energy with panels. Solar lights are cheap. You get groceries in town. People who are retired get Social Security payments and Medicare.
I suppose you could take up as much space as you can defend.

Here in Missouri, we get 2 heatwaves per season, each lasting about a solid week. Anyway, I have to buy water or catch rainwater and I’m actually going to buying myself a “pool”… just a large horse trough…that is out from under the trees because trees plus water equals messy…but yeah, I want to just let rain fill my “pool” and use that to keep cool .

A place like this, I'd imagine vernacular building would be helpful. Like making adobe houses. I'd have to bring a compass with me so that I can put the smaller windows at the south and larger windows at the north to allow cooler air.
I wonder if there's clay deposits near Slab City that can be used to make fired tiles for the floor.
Sounds like you have the know how to build quite the place out there. Perhaps I will be able to make a Grumpy BunBun video one day. :-)

I have so many questions…. What do they do when they get sick? Do they see doctors? Do they have outhouses? Do the people smell bad? Do they or can they afford medicine? Do they refrigerate their food? Wow
All that stuff seems so overwhelming, nowadays you can call anything art. Reflection of our material world. Too much stuff! However, amazing how Dot can live with all of this.

Interesting question however they would need construction equipment and builders and such. This is more of a place to head to and bug out.
Pretty easy to have dug out earth collapse on you -- deadly. Takes some skill + knowledge.

I think most of them use composting toilets but not 100% sure. There are a few porta potties out there as well. Perhaps a resident will read this and have a better answer. Sorry you didnt watch the video. Dot is a very interesting character.
