I love this recipe!! The cake is moist and delicious and the icing is yummy. I just pulled the cake out and waiting to frost it. Everyone needs this recipe in their toolbox! It surely does feed a crowd. Thanks Noreen!!
Ran across ur channel and haven't had a good Texas sheetcake in forever... Made one 5 days ago that was gone in one night and had to make another today! Thanks for the giggles and the awesome cake!
That was my mother-in-law's recipe. Yes, we're from Texas. And when I make it everyone comes a running; from my great niece to my husband. Mother, my past mother-in-law, past the recipe down to me for future generations. I pray the future continue the traditions.
I made the peanut butter sheet cake 2 days ago and there is only 2 pieces left. It is so GOOD!!! I am going to try the chocolate one and if everybody like it, (how could they not) then I will make it for my daughters birthday this month. Thanks for sharing it with us!!
Yes! This is delicious icing. Technically it is not ganache' but something called poured fondant. The same type of icing that donuts are traditionally dipped in.
thanks so much for the recipe! you mentioned bacon syrup, that is something you could flavor powdered sugar frosting with and spread on french toast, it is different but very good.
Noreen Chile... Your Easy to follow Recipe is MORE DELICIOUS than I could Hope!!! Moist to the 10th power!!! That Chocolate sang through. Thanks So much for sharing. Texas came to our Tenn Thanksgiving )
I looked this episode up because I wanted to make the coke cola cake. I have found a mexican sugar version of coke and I would like to try the cake with it in it.
This is a from scratch recipe. A box cake mix will not turn out the same. It will just be chocolate cake. This is very dense and moist. I doubt you will get the same result by simply baking a cake mix in a sheet pan.
Nope, this recipe calls for baking soda. It also has buttermilk in it. That is why baking soda is needed to make the cake rise. The acid in the buttermilk mixed with the baking soda cause the cake to rise. Baking powder is just 2 parts baking soda to 1 part cream of tartar. No problem.
WOW!!! Looks so good... good job, Noreen!!! Now did you say you use the full sheet cake pan or half sheet cake pan, can't remember? Would love to try this cake, we did the peanutbutter cake and it was delissshh!!! YUM!!! We have 1/4 sheet pans and one a little smaller. Have a blessed day, Candy :-)
Rebecca Skillman you're right. This was posted long before I had a website. This is one of those recipes I ask people to get a pen and paper and write down the recipe. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Darn, I made this when you posted the pb sheet cake but used a chocolate recipe from the internet with your pb icing. It was delicious, but I really wish I woulda done the coffee!! This gives me an excuse to make another one right? Right?!
Glad I could help! I have a Facebook fan page called "What's for Dinner?" I stopped adding people to my personal Facebook page. I am reserving that for family and close friends. : )
Thank you for this recipe, Noreen! My mother was famous for her Texas Sheet Cake when I was growing up, and somehow I lost the recipe through the years. I remember some of the technique, as I watched my Mom make this recipe when I was just a very young girl. Thank you for bringing back a lovely memory for me. I'm going to make this today, in memory of my Mom.
No, we don't have, nor have we ever had a rat terrier. We have had a terrier mix in the past, but she passed away several years ago. We also have a hound mix and two beagles.

I think this would be super good as a snicker bar topping (peanuts and caramel drizzle) Oh nummuy!!
I know I love those. My mom would beat the icing for hours but she could have done it this way. I could also eat nothing but the icing. yummy.

This would be fabulous with chopped pecans in the frosting, which I believe true Texas sheet cake has.

Yes. I didn't know you could get sweetened cocoa powder. I thought all cocoa powder was unsweetened. Especially for baking.
Yes Candy! Half Sheet pan. The full sheets won't fit in a home oven.
I have got to make this!

Is this recipe written anywhere?
yummy ..can i use box cake mix ?
My few recipes for this cake asks for 4 cups of icing sugar at the end. Yours is very loose. Will it thicken?
It’s a glaze. It gets a crust as it cools. This isn’t like a frosting.
Best stirrer!
This looks really REALLY Time consuming, but it looks Fricken Tasty!!!
I ues pink salt for cooking and eating to for a few now ...yummy. I buy bottles to put my milk in because I love the look.....

Can you bang that spoon a little more?
You bet! I'll remember that for my next video!

This great demo including stories about your ex-husband and an untrained camera operator - otherwise good tips. keep going.
And I thought you wouldn't use Coca Cola because you live in New Bern, NC, the birthplace of Pepsi Cola!
We actually hardly ever drink soda. Mostly because we don’t drink chemicals.
you will have to halve the recipe.
