i have heard so many negative comments about Westinghouse generators, and even worse comments about their customer support, guess you must have gotten a good one.
I have had one since January and it has been nothing but problems. When its running, it runs like a champ! Powers the a/c and everything else we need it to. Getting it to start, that's a whole other thing. If its above 65 degrees, it will usually start after the 3rd or 4th time pushing the button. If its below 65 degrees, forget it. In cool or cold temps, I have to pull the screws on the side cover and manually hold the choke closed to get it to start. I sent a video of the auto choke operation to Westinghouse and they say its working as designed. Well.....if its working properly, why won't it start?? I bought the jet kit for the carb since we are at a higher altitude. It runs better now but still won't start on its own. Westinghouse has no answer and no solution. So now its a giant $1,000 paper weight that I can't use or even sell. I should have just sucked it up and bought the Yamaha to begin with. Now I'm out the price of the Yamaha, AND a Westinghouse that never starts.
@@generatorpower7744 anywhere from 3500ft-6000ft depending on where we are staying. When you initially hit the start button, the choke moves to full choke, HOWEVER, it only stays on full choke for about half a second and then opens. Ive tried to explain to them that it needs more time at full choke to start when its cold but they insist that its working "as designed". If I manually hold it on full choke, it usually starts after 2-3 times cranking over.
If it did break, you know it would be because you didnt change the oil after a few hours of operation for first oil change. Terrible idea...First oil change is the most important oil change, super important. Gets all the initial metal shavings from the factory process out.
Thanks for your reviews. Just picked up the igen4500 at home depot for $776. I couldn't believe they dropped it that low. It must have been a mistake because it didnt last long at that price.
Hello, I have owned one for a little over a year now. About 450 hours. I have had no issues whatsoever until last trip the Electric remote start would not work. I charged the battery via the charging port and it started up again no problem. However the battery doesn’t seem to hold a charge. Because a couple days later and nada. Is this something you would do a video on troubleshooting? Changing the battery? I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before this will become regular service and maintenance. Thanks!
Generator Power hey so the Bluetooth works fine. It’s the electric push button on the gen that doesn’t work anymore. If I charge the battery it will start it up for a couple days but doesn’t hold a charge. Need to figure out what battery and where to get one to replace
Im ball-parking here but we used it quite a bit on our cross country trip. I would say 300+ hours. Of that, 60% of the time I would say we were operating at 20-30% output because AC was not necessary.
@@generatorpower7744 Thank you for the prompt reply. I've watched many of your other videos (you do a great job by the way), and unless I missed it somewhere, do you plan on switching to the duel fuel option?
I will probably stick with the original 4500 as I have already scratched and banged it up from traveling across the US. It functions the same as the DF. I also want to see if the original WH encounters any problems.
Hey guys - having trouble finding a clear answer to something. Can you shut off the fuel on this one and let the carb run dry, or does moving the fuel knob to off immediately kill the engine?
Thank you I have an off the grid camp in up state NY it gets cold I have read some bad thinks about cold weather start up even spoke to the company and they confirmed it was just curious thanks again 👍
@@anthonydimoe Hey Anthony, I read about this similar issue online that others have reported. Did you figure out a fix or a work around to get it started in colder weather?
I have the igen4500df and have started it in 20 degree weather (Buffalo NY area) it takes between 4-6 starting attempts or 2-3 starter button presses. I did reach out to support and they are aware of it and say they are working on a fix
Don't get fooled people! These things are garbage! I own one, Igen4500DF, biggest waste of money ever and Westinghouse customer service is a joke. BEWARE!!

Great video. I purchased this generator a few months ago and only put 10 hours on it. Going on a 3 week trip next week with it.
Awesome, let us know how it works out! I hope you're somewhere warm.

Hey Andreen, what altitude are you at? When you say the choke is properly working you can see it engaging and disengaging?

Awesome! Every once in a while you can find a steal like that. Well done. Enjoy your 4500!
got mine for the same price, picked up today and looked on website, price is up to 949. Glad I picked it up when I did.
Run my duel fuel all day every day for almost 4 months in the rain and heat with no problems so far. Just change the oil when it tells you.
Thank you for sharing this information! Good to hear you're getting similar results.
Nice I like hearing about good reliable gensets. Im curious how many hrs of run time per tank of fuel and what size is the fuel tank??
We have that info in this video: th-cam.com/video/IrldGnjm1Qg/w-d-xo.html
Thnx bigtime for the update..
No problem.

Have you checked the battery in the remote? Ours died and we had to replace it, and you can also reprogram the remote. Have you tried either?

I'm not sure of your location, but I believe I found a similar battery at Rural King. You might want to start there.
So roughly how many hours do you have on your 4500? Also, do you plan on switching to the 4500DF? Thanks!

will the power drop hurt a a/c unit I seen it went down to about 75 volts I am thinking about this one for my rv I have a15000 a/c
I haven't noticed an issue. It's pretty common across all inverter generators to initially drop when a load is engaged.
Hey guys - having trouble finding a clear answer to something. Can you shut off the fuel on this one and let the carb run dry, or does moving the fuel knob to off immediately kill the engine?
Turn the fuel off and it will run until the fuel is too low in the carb to operate. Mine doesnt run more than a minute after shutting fuel off.
can you use it in the rain if it is not in a covered area
I always cover mine. You can use one of these, not fully extended, but just a few feet above the generator: amzn.to/35n8gQW
What do you do about the wet weather when using it?
I have seen some people use"EZ Ups" as a shelter. Check it out here: amzn.to/2SIH0ah Most lower the top down to a few feet above the generators.
Sad thing is it doesn't hold enough gasoline to run an rv ac unit all night if it's hot out. You'd have to set up an extended run setup.
I think you should get through the night if you filled it up before bed.
Hello have you been in the cold weather with the generator and have had problems starting it with the auto choke thanks
We haven't been in extremely cold weather, but we have been 32-40° and used it to run our electric fireplace/hot water heater.
