  • Here are 2 extreme RV Generators. They are extremely similar in output and extremely different in a feature list. The Igen 4500DF has just about every option you could want in a portable generator for an RV and the Igen 4200 is as simple as it comes for an inverter generator. You can check the links for current prices.

    I Used my iGen4500 dual fuel for 18 days boondocking with my trailer, on propane. It worked great. Changing the oil sucks unless you have the extension. I bought it after the first time changing the oil.

    I purchased the 4500df and it has been working great. The remote start is a huge plus. When I first bought this generator I had a few questions on it and their customer service was top notch! One of the reasons I bought this was the fact they are made and supported from Ohio ! Thanks Jared for another great video.

    I have the i4500 and love it. Really low noise level and can barely hear it. Some of the other guys a camp have open frame Champions and those are super loud. Another member is going to buy a i4500 like mine.

    Recently purchased the dual fuel model. A lot of good tips here but also important to acknowledge Westinghouse for including the propane regulator and hose as well as a wrench to tighten the propane fitting and even the oil to be added before using it. Basically everything needed except the propane tank is included. Amazon was running a sale and I was able to get about $250 off the regular price. You do need extension cords because it must sit outside while running. But really nice to have most of the peripheral things provided.

    I have been checking out dual fuel generators and was impressed when the 4500DF was released. There were a few growing pains but it looks like it has become a contender. It's always nice to have some extra power if you need it. A little vague on some details but the important ones were covered. Appreciate the effort. Thanks for posting. Safe Travels.

    Very nice review!
    This info may help others with the generator as I’ve now owned it for about three months
    Note: It doesn’t start very well when the temperature is below about 45F it takes 4-6 tries to get it going.
    At about 180 hours of near constant use my igen4500df just shut off and wouldn’t start.
    I opened it up and noticed the air filter was wet with gas.
    I dried it out - left the filter out and it still wouldn’t start.
    I then manually moved the automatic choke and tried to start it and the choke cycled and it started and has an additional 50 hours without further incident. I ran it most of 2 1/2 weeks and it was extremely fuel efficient (mostly gas)
    I wanted to run it from my RV grill propane, but I found out it needs that black low pressure regulator (a safety) and it is metric. I haven’t located a fitting to convert it to US NPT I will keep looking.
    I got a scooter carrier from harbor freight and 2 30lb propane tanks that all fit nicely together on my campers receiver factory rated for up-to 300lbs reducing my tongue weight substantially. I have found that running the generator on the carrier works well, but dropping the ramp and rolling the generator down the ramp (much easier than dead lifting it) and running it underneath the camper is a better choice by also protecting it from the weather and reducing vibration
    I found the camping world silver universal generator cover meant for the honda 3000 fits this generator very well as well.

    Nice review of the gens, I have thought about the one on propane and one draw back to it is that propane is not that convenient to use or readily available as to gas but it’s nice to have that option, I have two Honda 3000si gens or inverters as they say I run one at a time and they run 25 hours on 3.5 gal of gas no have load and will run 18 hours with A/C on. I have had no major breakdowns on them just the economy switch goes bad over time but it’s a simple fix oh one is 6 years old and the other is 8 years. Thanks for your time and effort it takes to do these videos I enjoy them keep up the good work and y’all have safe travels on your journey. Thank you.

    Good video, but it leaves me with a few questions:
    1) My RV has a removable propane grill outside. Can the iGen4500DF be connected to the propane quick-connect of the grill, so that I can use the RV's propane source and save hauling another tank?
    2) Is the noise level, when running on propane, less or about the same as on gas?
    3) How is the exhaust ported? Could an external, flexible exhaust pipe be added to it so I could run it in a shed, for example?
    4) Lastly, am I the only one who thinks USB power ports on generators are completely stupid? As if I'd actually leave my cell phone, tablet, or other device outside on the generator while I'm inside my RV. Am I missing something there? I must be, because everyone is putting them on there.

    We purchased this generator for a 30amp RV and loved it. Quiet and ran great. We have since upgraded to a new RV and the new one is 50 AMP. We have adapters, but will this generator be able to run our AC (13500 BTU) with a 30 Amp plug connection. Do we need to add or do anything else to be sure everything works properly and nothing goes wrong?

    As far as I know so far, that Westinghouse igen4500df is the most awesome inverter generator available, and it's about the same price as the Honda eu2200ic. That's great idea switch on the fly between fuels. Too bad that's not remote too, it could run a real long long time without getting out of the camper 😂 You didn't show us the safest best smartest ways to shut it off though😢. I have seen some very nasty, unhappy reviews about it, as well as some excellent ones. Is that remote good enough to start and stop the igen4500 while inside the RV at a good distance from the generator? Another important thing is if the battery is nice and easy to replace. 😉 I'm using my 5 year old Honda eu2000i companion at the moment and wouldn't appreciate anything much louder. The main reason I'm researching another generator is so I can run my 13,500 btu rooftop AC. For some reason I'm sold on Hondas, probably because they are everywhere and thinking parts, service help, etc will be easy to attain. I'm just about 100% convinced now that dual fuel is the only way to go. The key thing to help us out is for you to have extensively researched the durability, longevity and reputation of whatever products you show us here on TH-cam. How long has Westinghouse been making generators? Is Westinghouse known for top quality engines and electronics? Etc. I'm an advocate for peaceful living and the quietest generator is what I'm interested in (without having to build a box around it) In fact I'm all for the complete banning of non-inverter generators at campgrounds. Thanks for caring and sharing. Keep it up, we appreciate it. Happy and safe RVing 👍🏼👍🏼

      I have Honda eu2000i & a couple eu2200is. I think the most important thing I did for my ac is I installed a Micro Air soft start on my 13,500 btu ac unit. Now I can start my ac unit with my eu2000i in ECO mode! You really can't run much more but I was dumbfounded when it worked like it was advertised. I installed a Coleman 9,200 btu in front bedroom & put the soft start in that new. The generator hardly works while starting up the ac. Good luck.

  • @BillUtah
    @BillUtah 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks for the video. I’m leaning towards the igen 4200 due that it seems to be easier to work on, no frills and of course price.
    I know it will power my trailer but the only thing that I’m concerned about is noise. We would run it only to charge the batteries, run the AC and when we are in a place if we want to run the tv, we would run it. Is it really that loud in comparison to other invertor type generators?
    Boondocking I’m not worried about, it’s when I’m in a campground and semi close to others.
    Thanks for the response in advance. Bill

      @kerplunk38880 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      BillUtah You cannot work on this at all. Even if you could you cannot buy parts for it. It is a disposable generator. Should work fine for a cheap, short-term unit. But don’t expect to keep it for years and have it work trouble-free for you. If you do need warranty service you won’t be able to find a service center that actually knows anything about them.

    I love your review of these gensets. I just got my first RV and researching Generators. My RV has 2 15K Air cond. and I want enough power to run at least one AC and have enough watts left to power othe items.
    I have looked at one bigger unit like the iGen 4500DF and also 2 parallel smaller gens.
    It is a hard decision. The large single unit is heavy , but again it is not as easily stolen.
    Then 2 units are light, easily mobile, can be carried away and you have 2 engines to maintain...
    Since I am a newbie... do you have any additional views or pros/cons to help a newbie?
    appreciated.

      I purchased the iGen 4500 this past Feb/Mar and used it for 40 days straight while camping in State Parks and BLM though out New Mexico during Mar/April. I found it to be an excellent generator. In the high mountains I had no reason to run the AC, but while we were down by the board we used the AC daily. It is fairly heavy, however I placed it in front of the 5th wheel hitch and tied it down with a cable and lock for when I was going into the various towns.

  • @david_sdiego
    @david_sdiego 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You're better off connecting a couple smaller gens together. With a big one, you're locked in to hefty gas consumption even when you only have a light load.

    • @Brian-Outdoors
      @Brian-Outdoors 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Neal West not true. Even a bigger engine idling will use more gas than a small one idling but depending on loads the small one may need to run higher RPMs using the same amount of gas as the big one that can still idle to produce the needed power. Generally I would expect the big one to use more gas.

    • @david_sdiego
      @david_sdiego 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I lean towards the champion as preference only because the electric start has been a little more reliable for me but both have worked very well for me. I'm looking at the Westinghouse iGen4500DF but have a couple questions I REALLY HOPE YOU OR YOUR SUBSCRIBERS CAN ANSWER. 1. Is it true that with this inverter generator I can safely run my new 65"sony t.v? 2. Do theese inverters or standard generators need to be grounded to a 3ft rod in the ground? And last.... 3. The generator has 4500 watts with only 2- 120v outlets is it true that's not enough to use the 4500 watts and is there a way to convert the RV-Ready Tt-30 30 Amp Outlet to another standard 120v outlet? Or is that A.not possible or even B. Cant be used at the same time the 2 standard 120v outlets are being used? THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE TO YOU OR YOUR SUBSCRIBERS FOR ANY HELP YOUS CAN PROVIDE

    SHOULD THE FACTORY GASOLINE RESIDUE BE REMOVED FROM THE CARBURETOR? As you probably know, these generators are tested at the factory using gasoline. I will ONLY be using propane in this generator. Because of the sticking choke issues and possible carburetor issues I'm wondering if the carburetor should be cleaned out in some way to remove any gasoline residue. The only way I know to do this, which may not totally work, is to run the generator with gasoline until it is exhausted. Suggestions welcome.

    I have noticed that the iGen4200 is significantly less expensive than inverters of comparable wattage. Is this because it is open frame and potentially louder or is there something else that make it less expensive?

    • @AllAboutRVs
      @AllAboutRVs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the lack of features and the open frame is what makes is cheaper. It is significantly louder than the other inverter generators but considerably quieter than construction generators.

    I just wanted to let everyone know that Westinghouse had nothing to do with the production of this generator. Westinghouse consumer products no longer exist as an entity except in a trademark that anyone (including you if you have enough money) can license and use. All consumer products with Westinghouse name on it is used under license. Westinghouse consumer products died in the 1970's. It's the same with other well-known US manufacturers such as RCA and GE. The names are used under license and the products are made by the Chinese. General Electric washers dryers and refrigerators are now owned by the Chinese. Some are still made in Louisville Kentucky. I foresee that production being shipped to China sometime in the future.

    • @kerplunk38880
      @kerplunk38880 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Randy AB9GO Exactly correct. In no way are these bad generators. However, when you do have an issue with them you will not find parts, or a service center who can actually repair them. I know because I bought a Westinghouse Dual Fuel and it will not run properly on propane. I had to drive 3 hours one way to drop it off at a service center. They had it for two weeks only to call and tell me they couldn’t identify the source of the issue after randomly replacing the control board, the carburetor, and trying different regulators. I am now stuck with a blue boat anchor. Should have never sold my 17 year old Honda which was still running fine just for the dual fuel option. I just purchased another Honda which is on backorder. Will never, again, go cheap on a generator. It’ll be Honda for me.

    Please don't sugar coat open frame generators for RV use. NOBODY wants one in a campground.
    I'm sure i-Gen is made in China, but so are most nowadays, and that's not condemning them.
    A big factor in choosing one should be service. "If I have a problem, where is the nearest service?" That's where Honda and Yamaha shine.
