On "My Car Story" we're in the Western Suburbs of Chicago IL on 8-30-22.
We're looking at a 1968 Plymouth GTX Convertible in Mist Green Paint. The car comes with the factory 440 CI V8 “Super Comando” engine, and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Paul Monteith. Paul’s had this car since 2022. He shares he had GTX Hardtop many years ago and kicked himself for not keeping the car. After many years of searching for another, he finally found this one, and this car makes him feel great.
    ENJOY!

I love it,Lou......The GTX was called the Gentlemans' Musclecar. The 440 had plenty of torque and was much more streetable than my old favorite, the HEMI........You know me, "It's a Mopar or No Car". It is a beautiful example of the 60's......Thank you !!!

Another fantastic Mopar! The Plymouth GTX was one fine car, and the Road Runner comes in second. That metallic green was as popular as the plumb crazy purple back in that era. The Plymouth had the 440 Super Commando, and Dodge had the 440 Magnum. This convertible looks great, and the engine sounds healthy. On another note, you really need to invest in a wind guard for your microphone. I like outdoor videos a lot better than indoor car show venues, but there seems to be a lot of wind you have to deal with, especially around the "Windy City" of Chicago and it's suburbs.

My dad back in 1989 had the exact car but triple white, exterior, interior and top and the GTX stripes on the side were red.
We used to go to Old Town in Kissimmee, FL. on Saturday nights and he would let me drive it in the classic car cruise through Old Town with the top down and on Friday nights we would cruise to a few of the Steak And Shakes that would have "car meets" . I felt like I was on top of the world when I would "cruise" through the car meets.. 😢 My "step-mother"/"trophy wife sold it in Feb of 2010, 1 month after my dad passed for 7k😮, exactly. The car was a survivor/very nice driver. I think the only thing major ever replaced was the top and that was in 1999, other than that was just basic maintenance..
Tune ups, fluid changes, brakes, shocks.

    I can dig this :) !
'68, i'm 11 and a shopping mall in Daly City, California opens called Serramonte.
My Mother takes me there when they first opened. Yikes, a Car Show !
All the new offerings for that year. Yes, Mustangs, Sting Rays, etc but the car i remeber most was a black on black GTX.
Can't recall which mill it had but it was sinister killer !
How this convertible has survived with out rusting away is amazing !
Btw, i love the drum beat bit during the idle. I get it.
First guy i think of with a lumpy idle is Ginger Baker.
    Well played, Lou !!!

1 of 3.... Somebody knew it was a rare beast many yrs ago to keep it in Ohio yet not let it rust to the ground, which B converts did even faster than coupes. I always found it interesting that Plymouth never copyrighted "the Boss" nomenclature and Ford stole the name for 69 and did lay legal claim to the name.. The original 'Boss' was the 68 GTX!

Possibly born as an Executive’s car with the way it’s optioned out.. common in the day.

    Nice !!! Now we're talking.
I'd prefer a hemi, that's if it were an option.

That would be my choice !
Had a Cuda with a hemi in it while in high-school.(project car for auto class. It passed everything but a gas station. Mind you back then it was 40 cents a gallon for hightest. Those were the days !!!

Hi, Lou! We're Getting To Xcitement today! The Plymouth win-you-over beat definitely won Paul over, and after all those years of letting his first one get away, he's surely fortunate to have found a convertible, considering only 1,026 were built. I don't think he'll be making that mistake again, especially with the threat of broken bones to face, LOL!
Thank you both for that Super Commando ride, and you'll enjoy this original dealer promo: th-cam.com/video/4QD6rPKyYno/w-d-xo.html.

Those hubcaps are I believe the so called recall wheels by Kelsey Hayes recalled due to poor manufacturing but some turn up and are very pricey

Not hubcaps. Those are the Magnum 500 wheels. I had those on my other 68 GTX. Great wheels and look great on the car.
