    High Octane Classics is proud to offer this absolutely stunning 1968 GTX tribute. Shown in yellow gold over a black and gold interior. This B body received a nut and bolt restoration to a high level about 5 years ago. The body on this car is a straight as they come and the paint still looks wet, with no orange peal or nonsense, it is show quality. Everything on this car is either new or refurbished from front to back, leaving no disappointments for the new owner. Powered by the famous 440 SIX PACK engine, the carbs are tuned perfect on this unit. Getting all of this power to the ground is a 727 automatic transmission backed by a gear venders overdrive unit down to sure grip 8 3/4 rear end with 4.10 gears. This car has all the show and all the go! The undercarriage is just as nice with no poor patch work or short cuts, this car is done right.
    We offer financing up to 144 months and world wide shipping options.

      In the 60’s I think the only genera motors car that could beat a mopar in quarter mile drag would be the zl 1 camaro. Otherwise mopar had it all the way.

    I was 18 in 1968 when my brother came home from the Army and bought a slightly used 67 Plymouth GTX. It was an column automatic with stock 3:23 gears and stock 440. There wasn't a GTO around that could beat him. Bone stock with only slicks on it, he won the trophy in his class at ATCO dragway, turning 14.01 @ 105 mph. The car was a beast!

    My next door neighbor as a kid had a 68 383 Road Runner. The GTX and Road Runners were my favorite MOPARS of all time. Also present was a 66 GT350, a 69 SS 396 Camaro and an L87 Corvette. There were others but those were the stand outs.

    The 1968 did not have the cutouts already in the hood for that year. It was all formed steel and closed. That started in 1969 to have the N96 air grabber. Very hard to find an original 68 RR/GTX hood. They are only repopping the 1969 style hood. Which is most likely what got used on this car. Both the 68 & 69 have the same dimensions and bolt pattern for the scoop pieces.

    This one was originally a six-cylinder car with the VIN for the win: R for Belvedere, H for High price class (Satellite in this case), 23 for two door hardtop, B for 225 CID Slant Six with one barrel, aka "Leaning Tower of Power", 8 for 1968 model year, A for Lynch Road, Detroit, MI assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Lynch Road facility closed in April 1981 and last assembled the "R" body cars.
    No tag, can't brag, but possible Yellow Gold exterior paint, code "H".

    A fellow up the street from me had one of these (silver with blue striping and blue interior). I would have bought it from him while I was in high school (early 1980s) but didn't have near the money to do so. By odd chance, some years later I got to drive it when he was moving to a new house, so I can take some satisfaction in that. He later sold the car and I don't know what happened to it, but I suspect it is still in existence...somewhere.

    Another pristine car that will just languish in a garage, maybe do the Saturday night car show too. I've had 10 garage Queens in my life, and that fear of bugs, birds and stone chips sucked the fun out of owning them. It's not worth it!!!!! Buy yourself a car with a killer drivetrain and a worn primer/paint job. Trust me, then you can drive the car without having a heart attack every time you find scratches etc.

      You got the right idea! I’m building a similar to this ‘68 Satellite with the 440 4 speed. It’s satin black like I painted it back in ‘88. I’m building it to drive. It has no “matching numbers” and it’s not factory original. 😁

    Plymouth sold 440 and 340 engines with three two barrel carbs, but they never called them Six Packs; all the Plymouths with three deuces, were called Six Barrels! Any Plymouth sold with three deuces in those days were marketed as Six Barrels. Check it out and you will find out that is what they were.

    I don't have a problem with "tributes" as long as sellers are up front about what the car is and buyers understand what they are getting. Nice car but I wouldn't call it a GTX unless it left the factory that way.

    • @googleusergp
      @googleusergp ปีที่แล้ว

      It didn't. This was a six-cylinder car originally. Mr. Magnante mentions it is a tribute, but the HOC website does not, but the VIN is a giveaway.

    • @vincemajestyk9497
      @vincemajestyk9497 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. Seems like nobody cares anymore and just groups these 'clones' together with genuine 'Super Cars' or 'Muscle Cars'. They're OK to drive and have fun with but not as impressive or command the mystique of an original example. Now it seems these people just want the 'image' because there were NEVER enough of the originals made that survive. Whatever. 'Send in the Clones'.

    Per Chrysler at the time 'GTX' was 'Gran Touring Express'. NOT 'Exterminator'. Where do you people come up with this? BTW, practically all car marques then seemed to have a 'GT' variant. Pontiac's 'GTO' stood for 'Gran Turismo Omologato' which is a racing class and a direct rip off of the Ferrari GTO, which they admitted.
    Not a bad car, would have been nicer if they bothered to remove some of the underhood hardware before spraying everything in sight. And that sure is some kind of janky overdrive switch on the shifter. Makes you wonder about all the other work. Why not switch it with a high-beam/dip switch on the floor? Clean and out of sight. The other thing is those 'Beep Beep' horns get their unique sound from the coils being wound with aluminum wire vs copper as in a typical horn.
