Great Job KM! Tweaking is my favorite color! It’s crazy how all or most formulas are just an approximation to the color. That’s where one comes in to do the tweaking. Again Awesome and thanks for sharing! 👊🏽 “Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.” Vince Lombardi
With Standox, when a color didn’t match, it usually fell in between 2 variants. I would mix 2 ounces of the 2 variants, then slowly add them together, till it matched. During this process, I would notate the calculations of each tint and defiantly keep the spray out. Colors usually were not off, but when they were, it was way off. Only had to tint colors about 5% of the time. Sherwin colors matched pretty decent. PPG Envirobase wasn’t horrible, but Lessonal was the worst!

Bingo ! I tell everyone. REVERSE TINT ! Very Smart. I been doing it this way for around 15 years. It is the best way to do it. I been a painter 28 years and it took me almost half my career to figure this out for myself. He just gave it to you for FREE and saved you alot of time.
@@kandyman5315 your welcome. I never watched your channel because of the name. I figured it was a custom paint channel. Which ive done plenty of but i like repair work and resto work.
Very interesting Kandy Man, it always amazes me how you pros are able to know which tinter to use if the colour is off I assume it's just years of experience, you wouldn't want me doing your colour matching for you as I'm partially colour blind🧐🤓👍John UK
This is so cool! Thanks for sharing. I work in a automotive supply store. We provide ppg as well. (Envirobase, delfleet, deltron, and shop line). We have the same posters and the same computer program!! Which helps! I’m in the process of learning how to tint but some colors can be challenging! Right now I have a color to match that looks off in the paint booth light, but it looks good outside!
Props to you 👏🏽! For taking your time to record & work at the same time !!! Thank you for your tips and tricks!!! And again thank you for your hard working time!
I love the colour matching tweaking vids its i think the most hardest part about painting so looking forward to learning more Thank you for your efforts
Kandyman I love this video . Much help and tips on the PPG line tinting would love to see more of Tinting different colors and what toners purposes they do . God bless you and your team
Thanks KM - love the helpful tips - not a shop guy - just a garage hack. Would love to see the Satin Tricks with base & clear application when you get to it. Great help.😊
I let the camera make the toner adjustments for me.. and I only put one coat of base on.. it’s hard to watch videos now where painters have to spray more than one coat haha
This kind of work is nightmare for the backyard painter. Thanks god there're some really friendly paint shops. I always take a panel with me or cut a piece from discarded panel when going to a paint shop to buy paint.
Complete amateur here looking for some advice as a garden/hobby sprayer.. whenever I start colour tinting I always let it dry down and compare, but I find once wet out with clear it changes colour temperature again, a total nightmare for my factory alpine white panels that I want to match. Could I compare the colours whilst the basecoat is still wet in the pot? That way I have an idea of what it'll be once glossy or does the dry down colour shift a lot more than I'm imagining?
Good job man. Its takes more effort to tint waterbase paint than solvent especially need to dry the paint and clear to see the match. Hope you can explain how to tint the flop as usually i tint it to match the face but the flop is a hard time to get a match.
Hey dude, sorry about the randomness of this question. My shop switched from Autobase to Envirobase, so we're mostly using ppg stuff. As a small shop in the middle of nowhere our Sikkens supplier didn't really care about our orders, and they send us like 20 boxes of the 123 tackrags. Our ppg jobber says that the one choice tacks are better FOR the envirobase, but I kinda think a tack rags a tack rag, do you think it matters? Love your videos, I haven't been able to get to a tinting class and these videos are saving me
When I painted cars back in the 90's we had Dupont paint system...... 7800 ,,7600 clears.... all the color matches had to big of metal in it. .once the metal is too big you cant remove it.. Dupont did this and not by mistake.. so you where forced to blend everything.....I got sick of it and scratched matched every car I painted about 4 a day.. got so good Duport wanted to hire me to match colored....i told them to fuk off
Another great Video, Candy Man. Quick question: Can you tell us if there is some sort of pigment or simple tint product that can be added to adjust (lighten) a 2K Urethane topcoat? I have a gallon of 2K Urethane automotive paint that was supposed to be a dark Charcoal Gray but its actually almost totally black. Just need to lighten it a bit by adding some white but I can't figure out what would be safe to add and, no, I don't have any white 2K paint to add. Any tips on this, guys?
@kandyman5315 What I can't find is any info on what sort of pigment would be correct and not ruin my paint. If it were latex, analine leather dye or lacquer there are all sorts of dye kits but I see nothing that claims to work with a 2K urethane. Any ideas for something other than buying 2k white paint?

Do you try to stick with what’s in the the formula to tint, or do you go outside the formula?
Depends what it needs but yes I will go out side the formula if needed

1.2 base 1.3 clear
