The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

He'd be good practice for an assassin. Butcher him, re-summon immediately so no one notices, let him go about his day for a little while then hunt him down again. Infinite practice targets and in a city environment.
Now I want to pull up console and spawn a ton of nazeems in whiterun to practice my sniping skills on. Try to butcher each one without making the others hostile. That will be fun.

With the caster trying to do it by the books and the dremora doing all of the interpretive reading and finding every conceivable loophole.
That's why it's the best. Also probably the best school for leaders. A guy that makes demons do his bidding is surely a man that can lead.

Summoning sheogorath is a bit of a gamble, even more so then any other daedra since you know what the other daedra will do, you'll be lucky if all he chooses to do is something small.
It wouldn’t fit Skyrims gameplay style but a mechanic where summons have a small chance to defy or even betray you would be so cool. One of the biggest gaps in the magic system of Skyrim (in my opinion)is the distinct lack of risk when using magic. We see so much lore about the perils of magic yet we never get to feel that same weight. Magic would be so much more interesting if there was some level of challenge to it. Swords being straightforward makes sense so I can get immersed but always casting perfect spells no matter the difficulty or circumstance makes magic feel hollow.
Maybe the next Elder Scrolls could have a mechanic where if you try to cast a spell outside your level it could have a chance of backfiring. A fireball could explode in your hand or a conjured dremora could turn against you.
But you eat the spell book to learn a spell, so you get every possible ounce of knowledge out of it. The people that messed up must've been on a diet lol
I thought of this exactly during a minor CoW quest involving a Sigil Stone (not going to spoil it). It opened my eyes to the incredibly dumb and mechanical use of magic in Skyrim , haha.
That actually exists already. I can't tell you how many times one of my conjured need to entities attacked me or a follower.

As a dremora, I can say, it takes a dremora successfully summon one. But for a mortal, the safest one to summon is one from Sanguine's realm. Just be prepared for some... shall we say... intimate interactions. But at least it won't kill you. (And Sanguine might bind it to you if you start enjoying its advances. He has done that before.)

Remember kids, ward first, then summon. Now a moment for the fallen witches you might find on your way and be weary of the atronach they have let loose in our realm.
What a pity that no TES game manages to actually _show_ these interesting storytelling ideas. The Conjuration system could easily have been changed to enable early players to use powerful spells at the risk of the summoned entity turning against them (AND to have a lot of unique dialogue for these encounters). How fun would it be to get a powerful spell cheaply early on in the game and to learn the hard way the risks involved?
Imagine a level 1 character trying to convince his brand new bound weapon _not_ to attack him. And then running away screaming through the gates of Whiterun with a spectral sword at his heels, trying to keep up before the spell's duration wears off. THIS is what a video game should do in terms of "SHOW, don't tell!". If I wanted to read a book, I'd have bought a novel.

A flying sword would be lame but an uncooperative dremora sounds fun.
Sounds cool on paper, but majority of players would probably encounter something like that once and then forever opt to be above required skill. Uuh.. except some cool RP characters, they would be all over the just out of reach, but almost safe spells.
We do see examples of it in game though, we just can't experience it on our own.
I want the flying sword to yell at you with various deadpool-like taunts just to add to the surprise of "oh my god the sword is attacking me!"

Eh, it’s not as evil as necromancy at least. In terms of evilness, Conjuration is the 3rd worst in my opinion.
Illusion seems to me worse than Conjuration since you can literally make someone kill their spouse or best friends if you cast fury on them.
@@tresended Ye but the thing with illusion is that you can also do some pretty neat stuff, you can use it to just become invisible and so on. But conjuration is always bargaining with deadra, and thats quite bad imo.

They're not in any plane of existence that can be reached by magic though.

Man, I sure hope you lovely boys never stop making TES Lore episodes, somehow they just really relax me if I’m having a bad day or experiencing life’s troubles, I’ll just sit down with a warm cup of coffee, bring up Fudgemuppet and go right to the Elder Scrolls Lore playlist. I guess it’s kind of silly to say, but it’s true. For me, It’s like reading a book by a fireplace in a dimly lit log house, while the snow falls just outside the window, that’s the closest feeling I can compare to as I watch these Fudgemuppet lore videos. Not to mention they renew my nostalgic immersion for TES tenfold every time I watch one! Not even Red Dead Redemption 2 could keep me away from Skyrim for more than a week! Lol, anyways..

I can't help it. When I start a Skyrim play-through I always plan a different build, but always fall back on conjuration to such an extent that it becomes my primary skill.
I love mage builds. I always end up being a Dark Overlord that worships Daedra... sounds far cooler than sneaky archer. 🤷♀️

It's always fun when you get two summons at mastery. By the time an enemy has slain both you've already summoned two fresh. Victory is assured.

what, in my opinion, is missing in conjuration is the presence of good spirits. In the real world there are spells to conjure devils and evil spirits, but there are just as many spells calling for the assistance of angels and benevolent entities. I find weird that in fantasy often only the first kind of summons are present.
These scholarly type videos on this channel are my absolute favorite, with the music combined with the narration, I feel immersed in the world of The Elder Scrolls in seconds.

yea, it's my favorite school too. Honestly, I think if you're going for a pure mage build in skyrim (or any of the other games) you need to have some skills with conjuration. Gots to have dem meat shields. The best part is that, unlike the incredibly stupid companions who stick with you until dismissed, whatever you summoned will just go away on it's own. When the ice atronach you summoned gets itself stuck in a door way, it will disintegrate in 30 seconds, when Lydia gets stuck in a doorway the only way to move her is with a shout.
better yet, atronarchs are immune top their own element, so as long as your choosen destruction spells suit your conjured atronarchs, you don't have to worry about them dying by runing into your line of fire.

Conjuration is a dangerous form of magic. But so are the others. Perhaps aside from restoration depending on how it is used and practiced. Every school of magic has its inherent dangers but only through train can it be made easier. Easier but not perfect. Even the wisest of Mages can fall prey if they make the smallest of errors. The thing about magic is you always have to be careful no matter what spell you use for it can turn on you just as much as your opponent. The same goes with experimentation should you not prepare carefully enough you will most likely die. The wise Mage is ready if not prepared, the unprepared Mage is a dead one.
I would argue Restoration could/should be dangerous too. Those who can restore your health should just as easily be able to take health away from you. Because if you understand how to restore a body you also understand how to damage it.
I'd love to watch Drew present "the dark side of Restoration", showing the evilest spell in Restoration or something
@@ayumikuro3768 a very valid point. It wouldn't be too complicated for a master of restoration to make a drain Health spell or even one from Magicka or Stamina. Would be really interesting to see how would you be used in battle though. If the Spells not quick enough it could be your own undoing. But true it could be a very dangerous School of magic if imagination is used to make it dangerous and not for healing.
@@blackchacha000 hard to say. I do know of mod spells that are dangerous in restoration. I'm not aware of any actual spells that are dangerous to Mortals not including the undead spells
@Hulk GTI I know that. I'm just saying all schools of magic had the potential to be dangerous not which is most. Conjuration definitely would more than likely hold that title. But for me it was just implying all magic could be dangerous if misused.
Thank you for the inspired video, Drew. I rarely conjure. I freely soul trap evil enemies and dangerous creatures, especially the black souls of evil men and mer. Yet, I only summon the willing such as Arniel's Shade and Durnehviir. These entities have given their permission and even requested to be summoned and so are much less likely to cause problems. I have never encountered problems with Arniel's Shade. However, even though Durnehviir has requested to be conjured I still have to be careful where I summon him. Of course he must have enough room to move and fly freely as I am sure you well know. Yet, I made the mistake of summoning him in the Hidden Vale when my party was at a very high altitude. My party of followers became enthralled by rage at the close proximity of the flying necromancer. They were trapped in a non-stop battle with the undead dragon. Both sides refused to back down until Durnehviir's time away from the Soul Cairn had finally expired. Needless to say, I am now even more aware of where I am and who I am with before calling forth such a creature as Durnehviir.
Need light = Flame Atronach.
For lifting = Storm Atronach.
For protection and strong bodyguard = Frost Atronach.
For friendly company in the woods = Familiar.
And if You really need to summon a Dremora You do give him the full respect if you don't wanna become a black soul gem.
The Daedric prince Hermaeus Mora can give you a spirital dremora to carry your heavy items for you. :) Conjuration is freaking awesome!
i think the the conjuration is not only about summoning it bidding the summoned too, the dialogue of dremora call you master. so you dont need to respect those vile demon you enslave them.

Aren’t wolf familiars summoned from aetherius? One of the hint things in the loading screens says that a blue cloud forms when you summon from aetherius and a purple cloud from oblivion. Are there any other summons that use the blue one?

I remember reading a book in skyrim about the inner thoughts of a summoned dremora, it was entertaining.
Presenting a woman with a dress enchanted with her son's soul could be a great plot twist in one of the Elder Scrolls books about an act of revenge. The ultimate evil shit.
In elder scrolls lore, has there been conjuration of something from divine origin?
not sure if it counts as conjuration, but we have that one time in oblivion when Martin became the avatar of Akatosh.
Mabye the ability to summon an ayelid? It's proven Daedra and Ayelid are opposites by needing a Great Sigil Stone and a Great Welkynd stone in the main quest of Oblivion, all of the items are opposites, the blood of a daedra and the blood of a god etc, so mabye summoning an ayelid would be something only extremely powerful mages could accomplish.
Hmmmmm... the Aedra are part of the Mundus, so they don’t need magic to get there. It’s the Daedra, who exist outside Akatosh’s barriers, that need mortals to let them in.
Cool idea, though.
So, every being you summon comes from somewhere on the aurbic wheel, where do familiars come from? If they were daedra then they wouldn't just be ghostly, they'd be like bound weapons. Or like Atronachs.

I always loved having two dremora lords as pets, they will always alert you to potential danger and fearlessly go after your enemies. Good times!
I always thought the more prominent magics should have fails, "I didn't expect that" or even fireballs, shocks that don't go they just happen right there on the player, conjures turning especially at low levels. These would drop lower and lower as the players skill rises and they gain levels but those first few times could be.... suspenseful. It's magic it should be a bit "Difficult" to start.

It would be cool if in Redfall, novice conjurers had no control of their summoned daedra, and they were hostile to the caster as well as the caster’s enemies, similar to how the frenzy spell works.

Conjuration is no joke. I play with some modded spells and i once went into the basement of that old witch lady in the cabin. Think her name is "Anise". When i went in there the first time she followed me down, summoned a flame atronach and absolutely destroyed me because all i had was flames and conjure familiar. My last save was just before you fight the boss in bleak falls barrow. I learned the unrelenting force word again, killed the draugr, stole all of his shit and in the chest next to him was a summon bear totem scroll. This was obviously modded as i had never seen it before. I left, went to the old lady's cabin again and this time it was my turn to get revenge. I used the scroll to summon the bear totem and in front of me appeared a massive spirit bear. I started to burn the old lady which wasn't doing much damage and in came the bear who two tapped her. It was amazing. I looked at her corpse to see what she had and all she had was an orcish dagger so i reloaded my save that i made just before i summoned the bear because it was a waste of an awesome scroll. I then walked to riverwood, saved and logged off.
Conjuration is some dope shit i tell ya, especially with mods.
I love Conjuration magic. There is something that pleases me about summoning Daedra and other creatures.
Question, how do the Ash Guardians and Ash Spawn work? Are they too bound Daedra? Or are they their own living entity due to how heart stones work?

I conjure all the time to Sommun stuff and raise the dead building an army to rule of all of Nirn.
Its easy to tune out his voice but he says some really interesting things, great visuals too. Its always worth rewatching to see how much i overlooked. 'Love your work, mate.
Nice video mate :) , now when we are on a subject of conjuration i'm curious if you would like to do a little what if scenario video, we know that necromancy is a big taboo in both TES universe and Witcher universe but just what if someone like Manimarco ended up in a witcher world, what kind of a reaction would there be and just how powerful Manimarco would be as a mage in witcher 3 world, we have seen that Yennefer had great trouble keeping one reanimated dead in life for some small period of time even with help of a magic garden and Yen is considered to be very powerfull sorceress.
Conjuration is so deep and intense in the lore but in gameplay it’s just the only school of magic that actually helps
I love Conjuration Magic.
Being able to watch some low key bandits try to take on my Summoned Dremora Lord, only for their head to roll around on the ground after he decapitates them XD. And Soul Trapping my enemies and sending their remnants to the Soul Cairn.

The way Magic has been categorized in Skyrim really is amazing and I hope they continue this in the future, possibly adding a few more schools, if needed.
Never summon what you can’t banish. In most Magic schools they it’s a requirement to learn banishment first before conjuration.

I feel like the Elder Scrolls magic schools and lore is a guide to real life. Kind of like the Bible, or the Bagavad Gita.
Your content is both relaxing as it is addicting for a lover of the elderscrolls series since morrowind. I now find myself unable to play as much an read the rich lore within and you let me do that while I work thank you so much for all that you do.

i love the conjuration school the most; it's always nice to have company when bored, and there is power in numbers, i just like how it feels to summon stuff!
Two schools I always have a hard time seeing the line between (both in Elder Scrolls and DnD) are Alteration (Transmutation) and Conjuration (....Conjuration). For both, they visually create something from nothing. In Elder scrolls, the way to tell the difference is 'are you creating an object with sentience? If so, then its conjuration. If not, Alteration. With DnD it the question seems to be 'where is it coming from?" If it came from around you, Transmutation. If it came from jack dittly squat, Conjuration.

It's too bad they never laid out a concrete list of stipulations. The one in A Tragedy in Black is the only example ever given, but it would make sense for there to be more. I suppose the rest will have to come from common sense and creative license.
As an aside, it bothers me so much that the boy in that book is about eighteen, but talks like he's about six. I get that it underscores his youth and naivete, but still. Eighteen is a long way off from being six. "I'm gonna be a wizard someday! Maybe even archmage! My favorite color is green!"

I LOVE the school of conjuration the books about it the reading aspect the different stubbins and rituals love it but if I had to chose a school of magic to have in my real life it would be restoration healing is the most useful school of magic in my eyes

I kinda wish they did this with Skyrim. Using new spells like this has a chance to mess up until you perfect the art and study. Imagine fighting a bunch of bandits and just summon a daedra and run for your life hoping they all take each-other out lol
Conjuration lore: you have to be perfectly aware of the geography of the universe & forces that shape, in order to succeed
Conjuration gameplay: haha soul trap on dead crab go brrrr
I am playing in Legendary to force myself to develop combat skill. Problem is Conjuration makes it too easy. I end up just summoning a flame atronach and running around till the enemy is dead. The only thing this didn't work on was the 2 gargoyle ambush in Awakening, because gargoyles absorb health faster than the damage I could manage in Legendary difficulty.
A interesting game mechanic would be to have low level conjurers randomly attached by what ever they summoned. Make it so higher levels of Conjuration is required to prevent that. Like a Master Conjurer won't get attacked, but a novice will get attacked after a while if there's no enemies around.
So, as I was saying, the first thing to understand is that magic is, by its very nature, volatile and dangerous. Unless you can control it, it can and will destroy you.
