Crazy Overspeeding WDM-2 Patalkot Express firing @120Kmph!!

- Get ready to see one of the deadliest diesel action of IR!!
Date: Tuesday, 11th December 2012.
Time: 2:20 PM.
Location: Barbatpur Station, Central Railways, Madhya Pradesh.
Camera: Canon PowerShot SX160 IS.
Pilot seems to be in a great hurry to reach home, slightly late running 14009 CWA-DEE Patalkot Express comes in with an amazing honking and speed with LHF-running ET WDM-2 #17737 and rips apart a WAG-9 led freight waiting on the loop with the 14 coach load, train passed me in less than 10 seconds!! :o
WAG-9 murmuring itself WTF was that!!
Speed Calculation details:
No of coaches= 14.
Coach length= 22m + Loco length= 20m(approx), Total length= 328m.
Time in which train passed my cam= 9.5 seconds.
Speed= Distance/Time = (328/9.5)x3.6 =124.29Kmph !!! DAFUQ was that! :o - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
My grandfather (maternal) was WDM2 Mail Express LP from one of the earliest batches (fresh from Alco) back in early 1960s. They even had Canadian instructors to conduct the training for steam to diesel conversion in Itarsi and Katni. He used to say the WDM-2 could pile on very good speeds, the tracks were a bigger limitation.
i too length = 330m and time is somewhere between 9.5 sec and 10 sec, so its coming out near 120Kmph approx
It's 110km/h because ICF coaches doesn't support more than 110km/h speed
Classic ALCOs especially WDM 2s were always a big heartthrob be it their mesmerizing dual honk, smoking, chugging or hugging. These were and always be a big treat to rail lovers. The pilots of WAG9 parked on the loop line just had a great show of the day!!
Nice. I dont think Ujjawal has done fast forward. These rakes are fit for 130kph also but for safety purpose 110kph Mps is given. On down gradients with trains like Tapovan express, I had done even speeds of 117kph on khardi split level tracks and 119kph near Lahavit station. The Lp must have got a great firing after doing accidental overspeeding.
Unbelievable speed... I am sure the speed was above 120
Train length=330.546m (0.330546kms) Time=10sec (10/60/60=0.002777hrs) SPEED=(0.330546/0.2777) =119.02kph Hence train was really blasting at approx 120kph

Such stupid comments appeared in my Begampura Express video too. I was slammed as speeding up the video. But bhaiya itni calculation to humein aati nahi ki 110 ki speed ko 120 dikhane ke liye video me kitna speed up karna parega. Aur us time to mere pass editing software bhi nahi tha 2011me

I also treveled with this train from Gwalior to chhindwara ...Its has super speed between itarsi to chhindwara with an incredible views and tunnels...
I had tested the speed of Patalkot Express by speedometer app. The speed was 112kmph.
Yeah, even i had seen such a high speed blast by an ALco for the first time in life :)

We should not forget that early Rajdhani express used to run on ICF rake and were comfortable in marking 130 km/hr. Even I have seen Ranchi Delhi Garib rath express in Gaziabad Aligarh section.So it is not surprising.
WDM 2. Still going strong as ever. That thing is hammering.
This is a proof that if used in right and recommended conditions diesel engines can give performances equalling electric engines.
Absolutely right they can work on every condition just they need proper maintenance.

Diesel locomotives at higher speed looks more monstrous than electric locomotive.
no doubt its over speeding, that too in LHF mode. but how come you calculated its 120 kmph. i worked out on it and the speed doesnt exceed 117 kmph.

Their MPS is 115km/h
Also WDM2 max speed is 160km/h
Their MPS is 105km/h

MPS= Maximum Power Speed (if I am not wrong)

AFAIK even the ICF rakes are tested at much higher speeds before putting them in service of 110Kmph MPS, but definitely there must be some risk in overspeeding!

Sir, I totally agree with you but make a fair comparison considering following parameters :
1 track gauge
2 coach weight & size (more capacity, most of the times overcrowded)
3 long trains (22 coaches on an average but 25-27 can be often seen)
4 curvy tracks having large gradient variations at many sections, old bridges.
with these conditions these speeds like 120-140kmph are considered appreciable. While your German trains are short, streamlined, low capacity, light with straight tracks.

ALCO is best diesel locomotive suited for Indian conditions. Main problem is quality spare parts as production is stopped. Fuel injectors and turbochargers are not maintained properly this black smoke ! In America many ALCOs are still in service as quality spares are still available there.
