  • Sleep is a vital component of overall health and well-being, yet many women experience unique challenges and barriers that affect their sleep quality. The Society for Women’s Health Research estimates that 1 out of every 5 women has sleep apnea. The majority-9 out of 10-are unaware of their condition and, as such, their increased risk for serious health conditions. It’s much more difficult to diagnose a woman with sleep apnea, because they don’t present the same obvious symptoms as a man. The need for sleep education, supplies and resources is one that health plans should have on their radar as they seek to improve the outcomes of their female members.
