      I have to set up one too. I just find it annoying that things cant be simple with turn tables. Got to do so much work. Miss the old days when you can just plug and go. I had a cheap one that was like that but it started wobbling badly so wound up getting a more expensive one and i went to set up and boom nadda. needed to go back to get the amplifer and speakers and stero wire. Need to wait for the speakers to come in but im hoping i dont start a fire or blow anything up. lol

    I implore your viewers not to make my mistake. It's VITAL to ensure not even ONE strand is near the opposite pole when using binding posts, leading to a short circuit! It's remarkably easily done: at 06:24 you'll see what I mean, at the middle of the picture. It's a good idea to tuck the protruding wire around the post in the same direction as you turn the nut so it winds itself in and is less prone to splaying out. (This also usefully increases the contact area, giving better sound).
    I missed a single strand once. It contacted and made a short circuit to the opposite pole. The amp gradually overheated but I didn't know until I smelt it on the other side of the room, by which time its rubber feet were sliding off in their own goo. You may be luckier and have a fuse blow. Better just to check! :-D

    The reason for two screws on the pin connector, or on some banana plugs, is something you defeated by stripping the cable too far down. The top screw is to hold the wire while the bottom screw is to hold the cable covering/casing. So you only should strip the wire far enough to allow the bottom screw to engage that casing. It makes for a much more secure and long lasting connection, especially when you pull the plug out multiple times to move the speaker or receiver.

    If you hook up 9 speakers (5.1.4) to an AV receiver, that would be 36 times pulling the rubber and plastic casing off the copper. So go and buy a wire stripper, its worth it.

      Jan Reinhardt what about the subwoofer? Doesn’t it needs the speaker wires too? (Im new to this speaker/home theater scene) by my math you only counted the 3 front speakers 2 surrounds and the 4 cieling speakers in the setup u were talking about. Which would add up to 9x4=36 which doesn’t include the subwoofer

    Thank you for another great video. I’ve a question: I think you’ve connected the ‘Pins’ not right; you use both screws for the kabel without the rubber, but you have to screw the frontscrew to make contact with the blank wire (you can fold the blank wire to make a better grip) and screw the backscrew with the rubber!. With this connection it holds longer without the chance to break it. Second question: did you know that you can also put the bananaplug into most receiver-connectors by onscrewing them first and put the plug into the hole for the blank wire? On this way the plugs won’t unplug when you’re moving the receiver.(I’m Dutch, so sorry for my english....)

    I just purchased 12 outdoor 5 and 1/4 Pyle speakers. What should I do for a head unit I'm also thinking about adding for rock as in fake rocks I'm pulling two wires around the whole entire so I can't miss the what a diagram would be along with a suggestion for a good head unit

    So the spade connector cannot be used on the Yamaha/denon that had the red binding post. I did not see u put the spade connector on that ?

    • @TechnoDad
      @TechnoDad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, the spade connection won’t work on the avr side, you’ll need either bare wire or bananas.

    What about using pa or powered speaker with av receiver for movies outside on a projector? Would you just cut of the connector from the speaker and just use copper end into receiver?

    The little "hehe" after you said "just a quick little snip of the tip" made me laugh.
    Thank you so much for dumbing this down for people like me, this helped me sooo much! Down to the amazon recommendations/option.
    My brother bought me a turn-table for my birthday last year, and then a few bookshelf speakers for another occasion. It seems like he was as clueless as me, because he didn't buy anything else. Finally, I got tired of staring at them in a corner, so I bought the amp but was still lost on how to connect the cables. I watched a couple of other vids of "how to" but they didn't actually break it down this much and I was getting so frustrated.
    Liked and subscribed! :)

    Use proper wire strippers when preparing speaker cables. One strand of copper falls into the top of your receiver and you are done. Prepare speaker cables away from the electronics, don't get strands on your sleeves or beard. Copper the silent killer.

    • @ViviennesComfort
      @ViviennesComfort 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm a noob- why does copper cause such harm?

    • @nukesaway4806
      @nukesaway4806 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ViviennesComfort Copper strands touch the electronic circuitry creating short circuits. It can start a fire or it could do some minor damage that degrades the system over time.

  • @babymaker13th

    The last hook up was a waste of connectors lol its better to use the striped wires direct ,and please don't promote MONSTER cables they don't even answer their phones anymore and they don't even honor their warranty on their cables anymore I've waited over 3 yrs for my cables that wS damaged and they never agnoledged me even with proof of delivery !!

    Great Video! Thanks. I do have a question though. Can you please, in a future video, explain how to set up a 7.2.4 using something like a Yamaha RX-A3070BL and a Emotiva XPA-3 Gen3? Those are the components I chose, and this whole home theater set up is my first venture into higher end AV. I know I will need the external amp to do the 11 channels, so I decided to go with the XPA-3 Gen3. I'm just a little confused on how to connect the external amp and front 3 speakers, to the A3070. Full disclosure, I am in Afghanistan so my set up is being pieced together(some new, some used) and I hope to have it all ready for install when I get home. That won't be until June, so I have time to learn/educate myself before hand. Thanks again!
    My proposed set up:
    Klipsch RF-7 II Floor Speaker x 2
    Klipsch RC-64 II Center x 1
    Klipsch RS-62 II Surround Speakers x 2
    Klipsch CDT-5800-C x 4 Ceiling Speakers
    Klipsch RB-81 II x 2 Bookshelf Speakers
    PSA V3601 x 2
    Emotiva Audio XPA-3 Gen3
    Yamaha RX-A3070BL
