The AAX Omni’s sound way, way better! I have an 18” that I use on smaller gigs as a crash ride and it sounds phenomenal. I think they missed the mark with the HHX as well! But these drums sound phenomenal!

Was going to buy a Yamaha shell kit for 570 and a Tama snare, would've run me like 800 after tax. This mapex kit snare is definitely a trade off, but this seems like incredible value. Thanks so much for this video.

Walked into my local music store today saw these very lightly used look brand new no knicks scratches or dents 400 bucks could not say no so tooke em home I still nees some hardware but I have the shells and a highhat stand 400 dollars plus I ordered anothe floor tom to go with it.
Not a bad sound for stock heads.I often think that U T heads are not given a fair chance;all heads need to be 'played in' to some extent before being ripped off and replaced with something more expensive.
I've been thinking about this kit for fathers day, but I just dont like 22inch bass. I want 20 or 24, if 24 I would use the 14 as my rack on a snare stand. It's this or a standard go to Stage Custom kit, but it's a 22 inch kick too. Would you say these are as good of quality and atandard I can expect with a Yamaha stage Custom, which is always a great value and quality?
thought I purchased a standard 5 piece set up. What got shipped was a cross over kit. There is a lump in my throat. I cant find a place to comfortably put the 16" floor tom. I am just bummed out at this point. I play a double pedal and have to turn my body so far clock wise its stupid. I tried placing it on the left side of my hi-hat... just sucks man. I have 3 toms each about a foot and a half away from each other. Cant find a 10" or 13" nightwood black hardware tom for sale anywhere on the internet. I'm just sad man....
I would love to have a Mars series kit, but I can't get around the finishes. Looks like cheap vinyl wrap used on budget speakers. I wish they had other non-"wood" options- sparkles, solids, anything! Plain black or white would even work. I guess I will probably go Stage Custom Birch to get my birch fix, but honestly I would pick this kit before the Yami if I didn't hate the finishes.
For the stand for the rack tom, no. Just got off a chat with guitar center with the same question. Not sure about the tom legs, I would assume so though.
Cody Boone! This kit comes with the mount to attach to a cymbal stand. I would probably use a snare stand though. I don’t like the shaking of the cymbal stand. A 10 inch Tom is also available for this kit. I was seriously considering purchasing this kit. Great sound for the price. Several professional drummers use it. I decided on purchasing the Pearl EXL instead.
***** mapex shipps with emperors and ambassadors... unless they don't do that with the mars line specifically I don't think the heads are to blame but the tuning.

Last i knew the great thing about drumming is your can have your own style i hate when people say tune ur drums 90 percent of drummer tune to the sound they like theres no real way to tune em only to ur liking.
this is true, I been a drummer for 30 years and went through many drumkits in my life. Just saying if you want an affordable kit go for PDP concept. just about the same price and its made by DW. Mapex Mars is poorly made. where as the PDP offers 7ply of maple and has a professional sound especially when recording.
I own this kit in bonewood. Go ahead and click on my face to see it. I whole heartedly disagree. This video was made using the stock heads - trash. Also the stock snare - Trash. With good heads, a quality snare (I play a Pork Pie 13x7 vented Little Squealer), and just a little effort in tuning, this kit sounds *amazing* for the price. There are those of us who like a brighter, tighter punch than maple can provide. Birch provides that with minimal effort. I'll take the Mapex over PDP any day of the week hands down. The notion that these are poorly constructed is all out false. I bought these in February 2017. After a year of beating the shit out of them, they're in the same shape as when I bought them. Honest to god, it still feels like a new kit. Just wanted to make that known. I agree that 7 ply can sound better, but this kit sounds astonishingly good for its price point and specs *with upgrades to the heads and the snare all together. That snare is a hopeless POS, just go ahead and budget for a better snare.
I also have this kit in bloodwood I just got the 18” floor Tom today took seven months to get it pulled out of the box and almost is tuned the way I like, but the single ply head has to go first thing tomorrow I use Evans G2 clear batter heads and an Evans HD dry for the snare. This set came with a decent snare in my opinion the drum set I had when I was a kid was an old coronet five piece sounded like crap compared to these I also had a torque five piece after that one. These drums are made today way better than most drums back then. I got this kit for 600 bucks and it is mint! I bought good hardware to go with it and I am happy! with a tune bot tuner I have been able to get the sound I want from it easier than any other set I have owned. I will splurge for a better snare at another time I am sure for now this set keeps me very happy.
Two things I learned from this video:
1. This should be my next kit.
2. Never buy Sabian HHX Omni cymbals.

I was looking at pearl exports, tama etc. but am starting to change my mind these mapex sound great!
Mapex is awesome! So much good sound for the price. I went with Aquarian dark gloss heads and super kick 2. Massive thunderous sound.

I know it's been said, but just so people are reminded, this is the nightwood finish, not smokewood. Smokewood is gray with chrome rims.

That looks like the Night wood kit to me. the smoke wood is lighter and has chrome hoops

Mapex is known very its thick and quick sound. The tom was probably not tuned very well.
