I just got the S10 and love it! I bet that if I turn off the always on display it'll do over 50 hours on a charge easily!! it'll do over 36 hours with he display on all day. I wonder how long it'll last with display off and low power mode on?? generally it doubles the battery life at least, so 100+ hours on a charge sounds awesome!!
apple does give you the option to turn off ambient brightness, you have to go to accessibility and then turn on minimum brightness, with that it wont adjust according to the ambient conditions and will always stay at max brightness
I was debating on upgrading from my series 7 to the 10. Actually going from the 45mm down to the 42mm as I feel it fits my wrist better. Thanks for this video, it looks like the battery is actually improved despite going down in physical size of the watch. Definitely make more of these, the amount of time and effort is greatly appreciated!
I bought the new Apple watch 10 series in the 46mm case with GPS & Cellular. I charged it until it was fully charged then used it like I would use my cell phone plus even more because I tested my heart rate and some of the other health apps. I made calls, text messages, used Siri, listened to music,, changed my settings which used up the battery, etc etc. I was constantly using my series 10 watch especially making and answering phone calls. I did not wear the watch to bed but I did leave the power on to test the batter life to its most extreme usage and to my amazement after 20 hours of heavy usage I still have 33% percent left on my Apple watch 10 series. This is crazy I have this much percentage left after the way and how much I used the watch. I can go another 8 to 10 more hours and perhaps even longer before my watch needs a charge. All I did was turn off the apps I know I wont be using. They are they apps that came loaded with the watch and not the apps that I downloaded. Turning off everything you dont use will save your battery from draining and give you well over 1 full day. This watch is simply amazing from all its features to the amazing battery life. I MUST SAY THAT YOU MADE A GREAT VIDEO AND YOU ARE VERY ACCURATE IN YOUR FINDINGS, GREAT JOB!!!
its really not that insane at all when you consider watches like those made by garmin can have like 13 days with always on display (fenix 8)... its more costly ofcourse but not too much more... the difference is apple keeps their displays at a higher refresh rate in comparison to garmin which is clearly operating at a lower refresh when you do things like scroll. Still with that in mind apple really could extend the battery life significantly more if they gave options to lock refresh rate down but apple being apple you dont really get those options.
Amazing!!! Thanks for this! Battery life on the 46mm S10 being THAT good is shocking but also really intriguing. Makes it a much more appealing purchase. Obviously the Ultra 2 battery life is unmatched, but around 20 hours of screen on time is really phenomenal. Add on the new faster charging, and it should be easy to manage the battery and still wear it all day and overnight too
Can anyone help me understand what’s happening here? I have an Ultra 1 and I was surprised to see that Watch 10 performed almost the same as Ultra 1, although on the Apple website they claim the S10 battery is half of Ultra 1 (18hrs vs 36hrs). Also, why is there a huge performance gap between Ultra 1 and the 2? I suppose they are 36hrs each based on the Apple website. Thank you!!
Apple conducts its battery test by viewing the time 90 times, receiving 90 notifications, and performing a 45-minute workout to determine battery life. This video demonstrates how efficient the battery is on certain models, including improvements in watchOS that help extend battery life. Essentially, this is a stress test, as you’re not likely to use your watch continuously in real-world scenarios.
@@geoffwyatt3991 Thank you Geoff. Since they were tested under the same conditions, it still seems to me that the Watch 10 is much more efficient compared to the Ultra 1. @@FLUFFS 100% true. I saw a steep drop-off on my ultra 1 when I installed watchOS 11. I used to make it 2 full days with 30% left. Now it powers down mid evening on day 2. I hope they fix it soon. I’m convinced this is why it performed so much differently than the ultra 2.

It would be cool if you could make all of the watch faces exactly the same. I know you are using the same face but for example, the Ultra 1 has 4 widgets around the dial and the Ultra 2 only has one. This means more pixels are awake on the Ultra 1 and possibly a little more background activity because it is refreshing the data for those widgets. Great test though. I have the Ultra 1 and I was waiting for the Ultra 3 but it didn't come this year so I think I will just get the Ultra 2 because I really want the faster offline Siri and a bit better battery life.

But now I realize that the runtime of the Series 10 42mm is too close to the SE2 44mm, which costs a little more than half the price of the Series 10 42mm and 46mm.
a lot of people forget that the watch screen was on the whole testing time. through normal use the screen isn't on all the time so the battery is gonna last a lot longer. I got the se2 watch and it lasts me 2 days on average.
Tbh, as an Apple Watch user, having long battery life just doesn't really matter, you use the watch all day - *and they all last all day*, then just before you go to bed you take it off and put it on the charger.. don't see much use of having insane battery - It doesn't hurt tho
This is exactly what I wanted to find out. I brought an apple watch 10 series and noticed a huge difference between that and the ultra 1. I returned it and brought an ultra 2. Your numbers match my results also.
garmin is untouchable for battery life, but when you use both side by side its pretty easy to see why the apple watch battery cant keep up, i have an ultra 2 and garmin epix side by side and things like the refresh rate are so different, the apple watch is significantly smoother when scrolling. Apple could really lower the refresh rate and extend that battery quite a bit more but they prefer to keep the experience of using it better.
Super useful video! Thank you! My AW7 is barely lasting a round of 18 hole golf with GolfShot app. Recently, it only lasts 9 holes witch is nearly useless. Maybe related to Watch OS update? Tried with 11.01 yesterday and failed, no better than 11.0. I have been considering a new AW10 or Ultra and your video gives great insight to which might work. The larger AW10 might do it. I’ll probably buy one of those to try. If it fails, I might exchange it for the Ultra. Thanks again!
Great video with lots of information. If you decide to revisit this topic, I would be very interested in the time required to recharge the watches. I have a series 7, 45 mm that is now three years old, I wear it 24/7, and it has 83% of it's initial battery capacity. My main use is workouts and sleep tracking, and at this point I'm recharging it twice a day. What I find interesting is the recharge rate varies based on current capacity. If I check at 10 minute intervals I'll see something like, 18%, 44%, 64%, 79%, 88%, 95%, and finally 100% five minutes later. It seems to add capacity very quickly when the battery is low, and very slowly when relatively full. I wonder if that is unique to my watch or pretty standard. I also wonder how long it takes to fully charge the Series 10 from 0% to 100%.
This is pretty standard charging compared to other devices with Li-Ion-Batteries. The battery wants to stay between 20 and 80% capacity and higher or lower is challanging using more power and will speed up the aging process. 50% is the most balanced state and will be adviced for storing or shipping such batteries. My 7 45 last with 88% health nearly 24 hours with sleep tracking and normal use, training with music playback doubling my battery usage.
Nice Test.! Thank you 👍🏻 Everyone talks about poor battery performance of the Apple Watch. What is now Ultra on the Samsung? 😎 I think the Samsung Android users should change their way of thinking, and not spam all the TH-cam comments with false statements about the Apple Watch!
Happy I got the Ultra 2 on discount! Why is it so much better than the Ultra 1? If it is because of the new S9 SiP then the Series 9 should have done a lot better than Series 8
Thank you for this review, I thought the ultra two has only a new color. I think the ultra three can I buy but I’m not sure the man for clocks or something other on my wrist
In your last years test, series 8 was at just above 10 hours mark. In this test it’s crossing 17hours. What could be the possible reason. In fact comparing series 8 and 9 it’s a whole different story.
@@HotshotTek Thanks. Also how long do you think the clicker was off for the 46mm series 10? As it's a large battery life difference between the 9/10 and I'm debating between buying a 9/10.
Another test I would like to see but would take longer is how long does the battery life last on the always on displays. I’ve been using a series three as an activity tracker where I disable anything I think will drain battery except for notifications I care about and that made the watch last what felt like entire day. I recently upgraded to a series 6 but I’m debating on keeping the screen always on or off. I use a Casio f91w to actually tell the time.
I got so tired of the normal apple watch battery life... I went for the ultra 2 with blood oxygen sensor... the battery life is epic... also it's actually not that huge... I'm only 5'8" but it's good
Everyone at Garmin thinking why! I have an Ultra 2 and Epix Pro 51mm and get at best two days of real use out of the Ultra compared to 23 days on the Epix. Also the Epix has an OLED display.
@@nickedwards1445 well you have to remember at it’s very core that the Ultra is a smartwatch, not a fitness tracker so basic WatchOS sure, Garmin is better but remember that the Ultra is a smartwatch so that means it can use third party apps for fitness and there are a lot more third apps that are better than Garmin for fitness. I’d take the Nike running app over Garmin’s tracking and training for running any day, that’s just one of hundreds of apps.
@@nickedwards1445 The Ultra is literally a smartphone on your wrist, Garmin is more of a watch that acts like a watch and a fitness device, don't compare these two cause the Ultra blows the Garmin out of the water with its chip power, functionality and its crazy it can be used as a smartphone without actually needing a smartphone
That's pretty shocking from Samsung's ultra not lasting at least 12 hours. The times when you're traveling or away without a charger for a day does make the apple watch 2 ultra a game changer. Nothing compares to a Garmin but it does not have the apple watch feature that I personally love

I expected the Samsung ultra to hold up way longer since the every day battery usage seems really not too bad!
Top notch comparison!
Great vid!!!
Great video, my Garmin currently has 29 days battery left 😅
garmin is untouchable for battery life, but when you use both side by side its pretty easy to see why the apple watch battery cant keep up, i have an ultra 2 and garmin epix side by side and things like the refresh rate are so different, the apple watch is significantly smoother when scrolling.
Thanks again!
wow SS ultra watch is trash lol
Coming from a Series 7, getting a 42% battery increase is crazy
Would've loved to see some Garmin competitors there, but then you'd have to wait for 2 weeks until some run out 😂
Great comparison thank you
Great job bro. Thanks
The hero we need!
Nice Test.! Thank you 👍🏻
Everyone talks about poor battery performance of the Apple Watch. What is now Ultra on the Samsung? 😎
I think the Samsung Android users should change their way of thinking, and not spam all the TH-cam comments with false statements about the Apple Watch!
Happy I got the Ultra 2 on discount! Why is it so much better than the Ultra 1? If it is because of the new S9 SiP then the Series 9 should have done a lot better than Series 8
I’m not sure which watch to upgrade to from my series 3 should I go all out with the series 10
Yes
Yes, I can't stand the lag of my Series 3. The Series 9 is a very good value right now, in my opinion.
Yes unless you are a runner or Tri athlete if you are go for the ultra 2
@@anguspackwood1238 i still use a series 1 and my goal is 10 years of use
@@JJCA82 If youre a runner you probably dont want such a heavy watch
Maybe a 42mm S10? (its much lighter than the ultra)
I hope battery life gets so good that the battery life testers need a week of testing
Thank you for this review, I thought the ultra two has only a new color. I think the ultra three can I buy but I’m not sure the man for clocks or something other on my wrist
How does your ultra 1 battery last long
just bought a 9 after my 5 for a good price, 5th place sounds great
if you put the watch on the flashlight mode, the screen does not turn off
In your last years test, series 8 was at just above 10 hours mark. In this test it’s crossing 17hours. What could be the possible reason.
In fact comparing series 8 and 9 it’s a whole different story.
Différence between ultra 1 and ultra 2 is surprising ! It was not a such difference last year ?
What sized watch was used for the series 7/8/9? 41/42 or 45/46?
All the large models. 45/46
@@HotshotTek Thanks. Also how long do you think the clicker was off for the 46mm series 10? As it's a large battery life difference between the 9/10 and I'm debating between buying a 9/10.
should i get se2 44mm or series 10 46mm
Great video... Keep going on that bro 👏... Can u do the same test but on iphone
Great video
Another test I would like to see but would take longer is how long does the battery life last on the always on displays. I’ve been using a series three as an activity tracker where I disable anything I think will drain battery except for notifications I care about and that made the watch last what felt like entire day. I recently upgraded to a series 6 but I’m debating on keeping the screen always on or off.
I use a Casio f91w to actually tell the time.
the AWU1 and AWU2 battery difference is really something, i hope i could upgrade my AWU1 to 2
Wow people still have the first gen one working still?
Thank you. Much appreciated.
i love this. wish i could make bets like a horse race on how long they last.
I got so tired of the normal apple watch battery life... I went for the ultra 2 with blood oxygen sensor... the battery life is epic... also it's actually not that huge... I'm only 5'8" but it's good
Inthink perhaps there were fewer complications on the longer lasting ones. The simple faces lasts 1½days on my samsung watch6 classic.
Everyone at Garmin thinking why! I have an Ultra 2 and Epix Pro 51mm and get at best two days of real use out of the Ultra compared to 23 days on the Epix. Also the Epix has an OLED display.
Ultra has a much more complex and power draining chip, Garmin has less functions so it has a simpler less power hungry chip.
@@superiortoall22 Sorry but for activity and sports the Garmin blows the Ultra out of the park for functions.
Thanks for justifying my s10 46mm
Good to know i have the 8
My series 7 already lasts about 2 days, going off this the ultra 2 should be able to go about 4-5 days between chargers
My Series 3 is doing very well.
That's pretty shocking from Samsung's ultra not lasting at least 12 hours. The times when you're traveling or away without a charger for a day does make the apple watch 2 ultra a game changer. Nothing compares to a Garmin but it does not have the apple watch feature that I personally love
I impressed that series 8 just lost to ultra and series 10 46mm 😯😯
I thought the Ultra 2 Was supposed to have a better battery life then the Ultra 1, I’m still mind blown how short the Samsung watch was though.
