    This is probably my favourite single point in the series. Rand's response to the Aes Sedai shapes the future. Hearing Mazrim Taim roar that command to the Asha'man always sends shivers down my spine, it's such a potent moment. Jordan was an absolute master of his craft.

      I agree. Although there are two others that rank as high for me. When Perrin led the Two rivers folk in defense against the Trollocs and when Mat was in command of one of the later battles. “A good leader commands from the rear. “ One of the memories of a long forgotten general told mat. “A man could get killed in there. “ That was pure Mat Cauthon.

      "Ashaman, kill" is one of my favorite lines/scenes in the series too. Right up there with it, from the same chapter, is "Kneel, or you will be knelt." this was a shadow, the most bitter shadow, of what the reality of war with the one power will be and has been. the most brutal warriors in the world (aiel) are broken to the point of running away as fast as they can, and they still can't get away. this is the first glimpse of what war with the one power is.

    • @Andhaira
      @Andhaira 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There were wars with the One Power before this; the constant battles against Shadowspawn on the borderlands, the Trolloc Wars, the fight against the Seanchen in Book 2, the various sieges of Tar Valon, but this was the most brutal display of it on screen. (the priors were either off screen in the books or more toned down; the Aes Sedai typically used fireballs/lightning and so did the Sul Dam; no one did what the Ashaman did on screen and not to so many masses of people at once)

    When a group of my friends and I went to meet Jordan at Marcon years and years ago, everyone brought the eye of the world for him to sign. I brought Lord of Chaos for him to sign, in large part because of this scene.

      @markdunlap3703 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I also met him at a book signing in the Nashville area and got him to sign a trade paperback of "The Eye of the World."
      I asked him if he had figured out how many books it was going to take to finish the Wheel of Time series.
      His response was that he knew exactly how it was going to end that he had already planned it out, but did not know how many books it would take to get there.
      He also told me that he was thinking of what he would write after he finished TWoT. It was not related to TWoT and that it had its own magic system and history. That's what I remember and think of what we missed when he passed away before finishing TWoT. 😭😭

      @@forsaken7976 Yeah, I CAN NOT stand to watch another minute of the series. Watched a couple episodes thinking I'd give it a try. Few things I had major problems with:
      1. Perrin was married and killed his wife (where were the Luhhan's? what purpose did that story arc have?) [I'm not even going into Perrin's lack of "size" to stay with his character descripton]
      2. Moiraine (I think it was her) said that the Dragon could be a man or a *woman* (WTF???)
      3. Logain sees Nynaeve's weaves when she heals everyone from the damage of his cage exploding, and apparently he now thinks she is the Dragon.
      4. Mat's character is portrayed as too much of a dark 'bad boy.' I always saw him as a likable trickster, not a despicable thief/scoundrel.
      5. The diversity of the Two Rivers jarred me out of the 'suspension of disbelief'. For a village with centuries of separation from the outside world, there was too much disparity in the appearance of the characters. The point of Rand looking different from everyone else was lost. The village looked more like it would have after Perrin returned and lots of different refugees from all over came there. After all, Jordan spent a great deal of the books commenting that people from different areas had certain physical appearances/traits. There were lots of references that certain people were assumed to be from certain areas from their appearance (and usually their clothing); none moreso than Rand being constantly mistaken for Aiel.
      I had to start rereading the series again to clean my palate, but the Taint of the Dark One (i.e Amazon) keeps creeping in and i can't stop seeing the garbage from the show in my mind as read.

But the Lord Dragon still makes the correct decisions. Stay hidden and shield the channelers. Then when Taim comes through he reveals no sentiments for his people, only using the opportunity to inspire the Asha'man. He makes the Aes Sedai submit to men, resetting gender equality to the Age of Legends.

      I think he meant that the show won’t last long enough to get to this scene.
      And if by some crazed miracle (for Amazon) it did make it here...the scene would not play out like this at all.
      Rand would fail to get out of the box, Egwene would show up and secretly sneak Rand and min out of the camp without hurting any of the aes sedai.
      Then when the Shaido caught sight of her she would channel and kill all the men and make the women forget what they’re doing in the area, allowing her to safely whisk Rand away to safety.
      Perrin and his army and such would never have even appeared in the show as Perrin is still in the castle crying about how loial got shanked.

      Seeing how season two ended, I don’t believe they would adapt this or give us that ending of the Aes Sedai kneeling to him

      Yes I edit in the music to add atmosphere to the audio’s, it’s something I always thought was missing from listening to all the audiobooks multiple times over, I can only hope I do them justice by doing this😊🙏

      @@WheelOfTimeAudioClips Yes you did, and then some! Thank you for sharing. Something I thought was always missing. But I do understand that everyone perceives sound and music differently, hence audiobooks usually don't have them, just to keep things neutral. But as you've shown if done well can add so much atmosphere to an already brilliant audiobook. I love Kate and Michael's voices in these. Ty again.

      @@WheelOfTimeAudioClips The audiobooks are great, especially with Michael Kramer and Kate Redding reading it, but the music makes it come alive. Makes it epic.

      You could score films with the choices you have made. To be able to transfer the atmosphere and emotion of a scene is truly an art. You did great justice to these passages.

    Mine's the cleansing of the source 😍 but this is a very very very close second. So many insanely awesome moments on such a long series, cause I just remembered Perrin forging his hammer, aw shoot🥴, which one is my number one now then? 😅

    Im a female, & even i hate Aes Sedai, them know-it-all, stuck up b's on their high horse, they don't even like or get along with each other, they cant stand their own kind. And the Red Ajah is super scary and psycho 😮

      They would just keep rand shielded and make perrin useless cut out the asha'man and replace them with rouge aes sedai and have egwane kill the shaido all by herself
