I think what everyone is missing about this is that they now only have to make one Playstation. Disk of no disk doesnt matter for the base system any more. They make one system and then either add a disk or dont. That means they can massively speed up production and a year from now if disk systems are in higher demand than no disk, they just have to make more disks. That could easily be a 20-30% decrease in cost.
Mate, no. I dont think you understand just how bad this "disk" is. It has DRM implemented into it. Which means theyre just completely fazing out physical and simply wont be uploading full games into disks anymore
The Slim isn't for those who already have a phat PS5, idk why there's this "Slim is pointless if you already have a PS5" talk. It's for those who haven't gotten one yet, isn't that obvious?
Yep, totally agree with that, although even if I didn't own a ps5 up until now I would still go buy the OG model. It looks far more premium than the 'slim', which looks like a cheap AliExpress knock off IMO.
You're totally right, everyone is comparing both and acting like they absolutely need the slim if they already have the older model. I'm just looking at them cause I don't own any and I've been waiting for a smaller version cause I know Sony always drop like 2 versions after the main one with more storage/different looks.
I just picked up my spiderman 2 bundle ps5 on Saturday. So far I love it! I had the ps4 since 2013, and to me, this is a huge upgrade. Great video as always, Jake!
I have a PS4 pro and I've seen videos of the graphics of the 5...there is almost no difference in graphics between the 2 except the lighting is a little better on the 5. The biggest difference between the 2 consoles is that the loading times are faster on the PS5. But I wouldn't waste 500 bucks for that
@@UFCMania155I have both the ps5 and the ps4 pro, and there’s one notable differences. 1.the ps4’s sound: when I wanna play god of war, not flight simulator However, there’s something from the ps4 that I wish the ps5 has and that is the themes/wallpaper I love that you can customize your ps4s theme entirely and make it unique to you, the ps5 on the other hand only lets you see that bland grey background.
unlike the jump from ps3 to ps4, the graphics difference were not at all what Sony was focusing on, its purely performance. A ps4 could not run games like spider-man 2 with that size and speed that it runs on while maintaining great graphics and ray tracing @@UFCMania155
For some reason I'm seeing many bitter PS5 owners saying "I'm happy with my original version" and "basically slim isn't better than the original" as if the slim even were meant to be an upgrade. I don't know why people get so defensive when there's new tech. Don't worry, your og PS5 won't suddenly stop working now
The biggest advantage of a slim is the weight and size difference when you travel. As I travel a lot it saves me a 1kg of weight and also space during packing luggage. And even if it doesn't, it still gives you that 180gb extra storage space so it justifies the 50$ extra to OG perfectly
It would be pretty cool if they would release a disk drive for the ps5 that was designed to read Ps2 games. Just swap the drive for the media type you want to play. Surely they could work that into some kind of software that would work with the hardware. They could sell me any number of disk drives if they all did something different.
The problem is not in the disk drive, Playstation 2 was a completely different architecture, it’s like trying to run Windows applications on a Mac. You can download it, but that’s about it.
Me today cause GameStop sent me the wrong ps5 today n it never worked so I went buy a brand new one today and slim tell the pro come might just switch to pc
I only just got my digital PS5 a few days ago so it's nice to hear that the slim version isn't that much better technically. I would have felt a tinge of regret if it was faster and noticeably quieter with much better storage but this really does sound like a bit of a clean up on the original as opposed to a proper upgraded version. And yes, I do indeed have 3 years of catching up to do.
I’ve had every PS except for 5. I got a PC back in 2022 and honestly I have no incentive to get a $500 PS5 when they now add the 1st party games there in a couple of years. I just don’t see the need for me to go and get a console and be able to play primarily single player experiences because thats all sony has prioritized. Single player is awesome don’t get me wrong but they just have not focused on multi-player/playing with friends which i can get on my PC just fine. That and basically paying for internet twice one through your ISP and the other for the right to play online and get 1-4 decent free games a year was getting frustrating. Plus it has gone up in price.
Thank you so much for making this video. Yes, the original PS5 was released and it was a good thing. Remember when PS3 was released it was really big bulky console. During that era having something so big people would think they must be really good product. Nowadays with the technology everything that's more compact. Thank you for sharing.
@@DatBoyIsAvirgin I would say that's a personal preference. PS2 was very good console. So, many games available. The PS5 has PS VR2. Guess what. The people that be. Will not allow. I would say is more of greed $$. You don't get good quality games anymore like PS2 era.
My fiancé got me a Original disc drive PS5 for my 30th birthday this month. After I opened it, she told me how she overheard me talking with about the slim and was worried I would prefer that one. Needless to say, I would have appreciated either model but after hearing about the disc drive needing to be registered online, I'm glad she got the base model.
Yuck yuck yuck those comments near the end about Sony moving more forwards multiplayer and battle royal stuff. I really really hope they don’t abandon their amazing single player experiences
I think one of the nicer parts of the new “slim” upgrade is the fact it now has dual USB-C ports in the front. PSVR2 requires the one USB-C port on the original PS5, so if you have a USB-C based HDD for PS4 titles you want to plug-in (or any other USB-C devices), you can’t have both plugged in at the same time. I’ve migrated most of my USB gear to USB-C over the last 5 years - so now I’m often at the point where I have to use dongles to plug that gear into the USB-A ports of my PS5 (one of the few modern devices I own that still has a USB-A port on it!). If anything, I just with they had gone farther and put a few USB-C ports on the back as well!
That's a downgrade to me. Not a single device I have runs on USB-C only. Almost everything runs on either USB-A directly (like USB sticks) or A to other formats, mostly micro-B but also a couple of C. Very few devices run on C to C only, so I don't know what is so great about this "upgrade".
I was lucky enough to grab a copy of the original disc drive system about a month after it released from Amazon (remembering how crazy it was to find them back then). Didn't actually get around to playing it much until last year when I changed jobs to something not requiring massive amounts of mandatory overtime; and even more so this year when I rearranged my office and brought all my consoles up from our finished basement and moved them into the office, where they're much more convenient to access. Now, while I certainly don't have the kind of time like when I was growing up, I'm finally getting back into video games again in a big way, and having fun going through some of my huge backlog of games spread across multiple systems.
I worked in a game store in Australia last year and I remember we had like 4 playstations come in every month and then one day I show up and we had 50 in the back room and it was a really small storeroom it was a real hazard 😅😅
@@MysticaliiI think they were wondering how this story is relevant to the new slim model this video is about, because I was too. I just wasn't going to leave a snarky comment about it.
I got the PS5 slim. I'd been holding off buying a ps5, and a few days after I decided to buy one, they announced the slim. So i waited and got it day 1. I really like it. It looks fine. Seems a lot smaller than my friends original ps5. Fits well on my TV stand. Having a little more storage is nice. I'm not the type of gamer to buy an SSD or anything. Definitely not worth getting one if you already have a ps5, but its very nice.
Hey, I have a question. If I buy a Ps5 slim (Disked ) one, will I be able to run games from digital purchase or do I need to buy game disks to play or both ?
the new disc eject button is neat, after 2 years of owning the original console I still sometimes struggle to decide which button is the power button and which the disk eject button
Yea though I never use the buttons on the console lol turn off the ps5 through menu and eject disc through the same way turn on the ps5 by pressing ps logo on controller easier than to get up walk to the console to press a button
I have been waiting for a slim, this is the first console generation where I haven't got the first model straight away. Was hoping it would be more of a significant change, but it will do at this point
I like the idea of making it easier to open up. I'm not super experienced with screw drivers and stuff so I was really scared when I had to open mine lol. That being said, it's just still pretty big, I'll upgrade if they make a third model I think. I prefer small little boxes, in fact I almost went with Xbox this generation because of design lol. But Spider man and Final Fantasy kept me at PlayStation
It seems that the only difference will be size and looks. If you hate the plates there are 3rd party and eventually sony plates that can replace these. I think the slim is a good option.
That's 3 years minimum, and that's IF it comes out. There's already a date for the PS6 which is 2028. By that logic just wait for the PS6, it's only 2 more years than the pro
@momerathsoutgabe-mt1gc no that date is coming from official documents. Sony has not put out an official statement saying PS6 is coming in 2028 for "buzz", the date is from internal documents. Also the lifespan of PS consoles has been 8 years, there is no reason this generation will be any different.
I was finally able to get my Mark 1 disc drive PS5 about 6-months ago and love it more than my Series X. I think I'm glad to have the older model over this new one. Haven't had any overheating on mine but I make sure to keep the area around it clean and don't live on it 24/7. Not sure if this new one is more or less prone to heating issues. Also, I AM the biggest Robocop fan and that said as a Gen X old guy that trigger pull feature on FPS games still amazes my old ass. Rogue City is a blast on PS5!
I’m new to PS5, so yesterday, I bought the slim. Last PS I had was the original PS1. Had kids, worked on my career, and now o have some extra time to keep my brain entertained and so my 9 year old can stay entertained during the holidays.
The most important thing- Sidepanels are having hole to feed more air into cooling fan- I have PS5 for 6 days and i see this issue And fact that IO connectors on back side are moved away from hotspot area is good too
My day one PS5 is special to me. When everyone was crying about scalpers or couldn’t find one until recently, I had one on launch. No need to upgrade until the PS5 Pro or PS6
that's kind of joy is irreplaceable. I'm one of the guy who cry about scalpers 😂 it just priced 2 times as much in my country when the scalpers thing happened. but now my ps5 slim is arriving in 2 days, so I guess I can enjoy it now
What’s funny is that the original ps5 is going for more than the actual slim version due to its demand so for me my ps5 will be irreplaceable as well 😂
i was thinking about getting a ps5 when i saw the slim had just come out. i like the look of the slim laying flat on the 2 little legs. as for the stand i like the new one too. cleaner and can be used on both ps 5's. thanks for the video. new subscriber. today.
I was going to pick up the fat one before buying the slim but I actually kind of like the slim better. I know you could customize the big fat one but I think customizability options will be a bit easier. I'm looking forward to adding a fan and a clear plastic cover for mine.
If you're a new buyer now, there's almost no reason to get the fat vs the slim, other than maybe worry of the new disc drive connection thing. Otherwise it's the same console with a bigger hard drive, a second usb port in the front, and it's less bulky.
@@titoniciasg.t.dasilva7115 Slim would be the way to go unless you find the original at a discount. But regarding disc vs digital, it always depends how you're going to use it. I prefer disc because I still sell some new games soon after I finish them. There's also the option of PS4 backwards compatibility on the disc version, and many games automatically run better even when there aren't any patches from the developers.
My biggest concern is the disk drive updates. Could someone ten, twenty years from now buy a PS5 and play physical games on it? Or if they want to sell theirs and unregister the drive that's full of their personal data, can they? Or if Sony decides they're no longer supporting the drive, is it now a brick? It's probably silly to even care, though...because we already know they're going to be doing this from now on. I think there's a lot who are talking about this console who aren't really talking about that aspect or haven't used their clout/been able to use their clout to get answers from Sony about this. I want a physical drive so I can still play physical games but if playing physically is now hampered by something digitally, then the gaming company has gotten their way in the end regardless and we're right back to square one. We're still at risk of games being erased from existence all because the company doesn't want to supoort them anymore (and in this case, possibly a whole console's worth of games might become inaccessible). Is there someone who knows more about how these updates are being pushed/supported by Sony who can answer if this is just the system checking for internet, or if it's specifically a Sony server related update? Edit: I did ultimately get the slim console on Black Friday. The thing just barely fits in the space provided for consoles with my TV stand and I don't want this giant obelisk standing up beside my TV (not that I have any space for it). It sits next to my PS4 Slim and still is bigger than that console in all measurements except maybe width (I'm saying this in case anyone thinks it would be smaller than a slim PS4 now. It's not). The future scrap heap discussion does still concern me, but my hope would be that Sony would release a patch of some kind to no longer require their server authentication whenever they choose to finally stop supporting the console and it's no longer profitable to them. Bricking tons of consoles sounds like a quick way for them to get an EU dressing-down like Apple got regarding their charging cables, so I would hope this doesn't have such blatant planned obselecence. It did have me connect to the internet when I first turned it on but didn't mention at that point if I was connecting to Sony's servers. Maybe it's an internal thing that can validate the console once it's online. I did have a rather long download, however, before the setup was complete, and that of course was given directly by Sony. If I knew how to stream my TV, maybe I would save my gaming progress so far to the cloud and redo my setup to show others (with blurred personal information, of course), but I don't know how to stream like that.
Agree with all that! But one thing to help ease the mind is the original Ps5 with the disc tray built in, there are millions of them sold by now! Probably even more than the total number of Wii Us sold…ever! So at the very least, we have those systems to fall back on down the road. …Hopefully.
I don't know the answer about future owners, but there shouldn't be personal information stored on the disc drive, it just spins the discs and reads them, it's not like a hard drive for storage. You can literally take it out and still use the console as a digital version.
Technically the PS3 is still supported by Sony in a certain way... They put all the software needed on their website so you can download and manually update your console anytime. If you want to change the HDD on PS3 or PS4 you just have to download a file on a usb pen and you're ok!
As a retro collector myself, it's sad that even having physical games won't guarantee me able to play it 25 years from now. These stuff requires updates and such.
Maybe one day we will have a ps5 emulator if they could make a ps3 one I imagine 4 and 5 will be easier. Who knows how many games will enter the abandonware site in the future too.
I have just brought the ps5 slim digital. I love it. I don't buy discs and never will. But if for some reason I had to in the future go to discs, I would just buy the £80 disc drive and install it. It's really simple. Great system😊
I have a 1200 ps5, and it looks great in the living room. I hate that I like this new shell specifically due to it being (more) modular. That was one of my favorite aspects of the xbox 360 back when with the removable hard drive
I got my PS5 earlier this year so it's good to know that the "slim" version isn't better in terms graphics ect. so it's good for the ones who were still waiting to get one and no loss for me.
Yeah slims usually don’t have any graphical or performance upgrades, they’re just meant to be an alternatives for people like me that prefer smaller consoles
Ur videos are always great i havent been able to watch your videos lately but im glad i am able to come back to your channel and still see that great chill content
The download for the drive is most likely to get the encryption keys as the drive can play regular and UHD Blu-ray movies. Yes everything is streaming these days but some people still use their PS5 to play discs.
Late to the party, I know. The download is probably for firmware and drivers. Since I imagine that Sony just makes/does initial setup on digital-only consoles, then adds the disc drive to the consoles that are going into the disc drive boxes. So we have to do the initial setup and software installation ourselves just like if we bought the digital edition and drive separately, otherwise the disc drive literally can’t function in *any* capacity, nevermind for UHD content. It might also be to check that it’s actually a Sony disc drive ay the same time, not something someone tried to Frankenstein onto a digital chassis. Annoying? Yes. Fortunately the download is small, so people in rural areas can probably tether to their phones in the worst case. Found this video today because I’m looking at finally getting a PS5 and wondered if the slim was meaningfully different than a first edition.
From your research the drive update/validation is a one time thing? Not like you need to connect to the internet every 24 hrs or it stops working right?
I still like my launch PS5. I’m in the minority that actually likes how it looks, and my set up has it standing next to my tv, with my Series X on the other side, so the size doesn’t bother me. Now when they release a PS5 Pro- we’ll see. I’m a tech junkie and always want the best tech. It just doesn’t feel like it’s been long enough to have a pro model yet.
I just went ahead and bought the standard (2022) PS5 console and, having seen this video, I'm not regretting it in the slightest. I can totally see why Sony had their reasons for releasing this updated product, but for now the standard disc edition seems great as it is. Now if they end up releasing a proper slim edition in the not too distant future then that's something else entirely.
As someone who's had a ps5 since launch... If you've just got one you missed absolutely nothing because the gaming industry is in the toilet. It made sense for me as i came from a ps4 regular and recently had bought an LG OLED but if that weren't the case i would have never bought it.
I did a swap with my old one with Gamestop cause I had the protection plan and they gave me this one. I'm slightly impressed with it I think it being a lil smaller is better to me and I kind of wish this was the launch console but hey take what you can get right. everything Jake said in this video was right I had no issues pulling off the plates and putting them back on. I have no need to take off the disk drive cause I use some disk games (mostly games on clearance) but yeah I love it so far. and the DISK DRIVE IS QUIETER and I love the cause on I had a launch day PS5 and I popped a disk in and thought to myself after hearing the noise it mad "This shit not gonna last long) so big ups to Sony for that. All in all I like it. Caution: I have not been able to find a stand in any stores so be careful with that
@@fredislazo9444nah you can have it horizontal and the fact that it doesn’t come with the stand on the slim model is like the prefer you have it horizontal I guess
I’ve been thinking of getting a PS5 for myself so I can stop using my family’s console. I think the Slim is pretty perfect for me. I used to think the fat looked better, but the “slim”’s design is really growing on me and that extra 200-ish GB is very appealing lol On a side note, that’s an awesome Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty shirt! I just started Peace Walker the other day in my PSP and it’s actually really good! It’s definitely not better than MGS3 though lol
@@NM-mf7vm I would highly recommend both the Slim and the Metal Gear games! I haven’t personally played the Legacy collection a whole lot, but it seems like it would be pretty decent since they pretty much just copy and pasted the PS3 versions. If you do get the Legacy Collection I do want to say that with MGS1 I’d recommend turning off smoothing, turn on pixel perfect, and keep the screen size at standard as I think it looks best with those settings. Have fun!
I still have my PS4 and almost so far all PS5 games played on PS4, so I didn't miss that much. I've had from PS1 to PS4 and all of them revolutionized the industry, I don't see PS5 has some to offer. Waiting for PS6😊
Hardcore pc gamer here. Been using pc since i was in i guess 4th grade. I just bought the my first ps5 and its the slim one. It will arrive in three days. Cant wait to get my hands on it.
Just got it today. First time to buy a ps5. I think I just went with the latest version because I expected it to be better and YES the size did matter also, something you didn’t mention is its weight. It seems lighter to me than the last one. Nothing more to say. I’m a big fan of your - Before you buy - videos and keep it up. You saved my life once or twice ✌🏻
I hate shiny plastic, but that white gloss does look surprisingly good. The black? Not so good within 5 seconds of unboxing… They should’ve made all the white panels glossy, and the central black bit matt.
Very grateful & happy i could afford the OG ps5 back in August.. been loving the powerhouse console. Its been a great experience & i have no need for the slim model even though i can see the appeal of it to some people.
I've had the series x for 2 years and finally decided to also get a ps5. I got the slim with the disk drive and I'm finally catching up on lots of playstation exclusives. Couldn't be happier
After more than 3 years, I was able to scrape some cash together and pick up the PS5 Slim Disk version Spider-Man 2 bundle. No complaints so far. I picked one up in preparation for EA Sports College Football 25 in July.
@@Force-Multiplier Yeah, this generation according to Xbox leaks is only supposed to be 8 years long. We're already 3 years in. I'm really considering buying one. I've been waiting to buy one since before its release and my PS4 blew up years before the release in lightning strike. So many stories to catch up on but I really struggle with spending money on myself, even though plenty of money and debt-free. I keep looking for used ones in the marketplace but they're all between 300-400 too.
I had my Xbox Series X for over 3 years, finally picked up a slim with the disc drive included. It's been awhile since I had touched PlayStation, 2019 with my ol' PS4.
I am a huge believer that launch models are the way. I had PS4 vanilla and PS5 vanilla and both still work great. Makes me wish I would’ve gotten the old PS3 phatboi.
Eehh, I don't think you would've wanted the original PS3. My brother had an 80GB first gen PS3 while I treated myself to a PS3 slim for my birthday about a year later. His console was very LOUD. And he absolutely had to play it either with his window AC on or a fan pointing at the console as it heated up way too easily. After about a year, it died (now, admittedly it was a second-hand console he bought from what might have been a crackhead who sold it to him for $20. Yes, you read that right 😂. He's a braver person than me, but his investment paid off pretty damn well to get a year of use from the console for just $20. My societal obligation PSA: Don't roll the dice buying $20 consoles from random people 😅. My sibling got VERY lucky. And the console may have been stolen to begin with, so...yikes). Anyways, once it died, he took over with playing mine since I play video games less than him. Still, the complaints of that version of the console were quite numerous, so I don't think there was anything abnormal about the one he had. The OG PS3 was just awful.
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley idk because at a certain point the PS3 no longer had the capability to play ps1/ps2 games via disk. That upset a lot of people who were really into backwards compatibility and a huge reason why they tried to remedy this issue with the ps5 (albeit a limited “backwards compatibility”). Still the phat PS3 was released with way less issues internally than its competitors (Xbox 360) and even though those issues like the jet engine sound were addressed in later versions, the OG models, if kept in good condition, were arguably the best version of the console.
I got a fat when they dropped. Hasn’t worked in over 10 years. They’re golden if they work, but they’re more or less designed to fail. If you got several hundred dollars lying around there’s a couple folks out there that’ll take the gpu (at least i think it’s the gpu) out a slim or super slim and put it on your fat motherboard. Have your machine running quiet and quick like it’s new. An actual long term solution. It barely sounds real but apparently it’s feasible for a professional
You hit on a good video idea. Some people will finally get PS’s this holiday. You should do a quick top 10, 15, 20 or whatever games to catch up on if you’re finally getting a PS
Jake, you are one awesome reviewer and everyone at Gameranx is appreciated! The community here is awesome too. We all learn something from one another. I think I might just get this one too. At 64 I'm still a kid at heart. The collector in me. Thanks again Jake!
Since when is $30 refered to as a couple of bucks? The removable disk drive is nice, though. Being able to replace it for $80 is much better than purchasing a new system.
I'm 3 years behind just ordered a ps5 slim finally getting my hands on one along with God of war never played it on ps4 along with Ragnarok and DMC5 can't wait.
I am just sticking with the series x until they put out the ps5 pro. I’ve always missed the console updates as I was in early usually. Will be nice to come back to the upgrade this time
Im a huge Sony and Playstation fan boy. I had the Playstation 1 when it came out and have fallen in love with Sony ever since. The only Sony console I didn't have was the Playstation 3 since I wanted to give the Xbox 360 a try. I will never make the mistake of getting an Xbox over a Playstation again. I currently have the Playstation 5 Slim Disc Version and I just pre-ordered the Playstation 5 Pro as well. So I'll now have two Playstation 5s in my setup now.
Thank you for this information. I'm going to be getting a PS5 with my tax refund, i was opting for the disc drive so i could still play physical media if i desired (i mix digital and physical games). I noticed that most shops only offer the slim version, and this video helped alleviate my concern over if its less powerful or anything like that. It is a relief to see its just a smaller console with a bigger storage.
Essentially Sony reduced the size of the side panels on the new slim version but the main body is pretty much remained the same size... I'll stick with my OG PS5 🤭
I was waiting for the slim to release before purchasing a PS5, but the whole disc drive pairing thing turned me off (I know it’s not a huge deal, but it rubbed me the wrong way). Guy looked at me weird when I requested the big boi model, but I’ve got no regrets.
I'm with you man I just found out about this hard requirement and possibility of not being able to update the hard drive in the future......I'm conflicted on getting the old model or wait for the pro
@@okthen5566 It’s gonna sound cheesy, but listen to your gut! If you’re in no rush to get one, might as well wait for the PS5 pro (although it’s just a rumour as of now), but if you were planning on purchasing one today, there are still plenty of old models left. That said, unless the potential drop of support for the disc drive is a deal breaker, I would actually go for the slim. You get a bit more storage, a less bulky console, and if your disc drive shits the bed for some reason, you can easily replace it.
Hey guys, I’ve never had a PS5 and have been really wanting to try spider man, god of war & horizon etc. Do you guys think this release warrants the purchase? Or do I just go for the cheaper original? It would be great to hear any opinions on what I should do too!
In my opinion you will be extremely happy with the purchase. If you are using a ps4 or any other older console, the ps5 really does allow the games to be even more immersive and fun the play.
I'm playing Playstation since 1998. I have an original Playstation 1, a PS2 slim, and a PS3 slim. I skipped the PS4 for some reason, but I was always very excited for the PS5 since launch but didn't buy one yet (I bought an XBox Series S, though). I hope I will finally start playing Playstation again this year, but I think it's still quite expensive if you want a black PS5 with a bigger SSD like me 🤔
Not in a major rush to upgrade from the original PS5 but is there any news on the manufacturing faults, specifically the liquid metal issue that happens if you stand the console up vertically?
Besides PS5’s being hard to come by until recently, I purposefully waited for a slim version because the original’s gargantuan size disgusted me. It’s unfortunate that this really isn’t all that different. I’m honestly wondering if it’s even worth buying considering it has a single digit number of games you can’t play on PS4, and I’m not a graphics person.
I was at a pawn shop a few months ago and got to see a PS5 in person finally. Actually, they had a LOT of them 😅. Now that I think about it, might go to one and get one of them (the warranty policy from a pawn shop though gives me pause). But yes, they are massive and weird. You would think in this day and age that we'd moved past such bulky things, but I guess not.
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley To be honest my biggest concern is the lack of good exclusive games. If that wasn’t an issue, I could work around everything else.
@@thedude8153 My PS4 has a 2TB hard drive, so loading isn’t really an issue for me. Literally the only thing I like about 5 more than 4 is the controller. Like I mentioned with the other person, my one supreme gripe with the console is the single-digit number of exclusives that aren’t on PS4 (maybe it’s gotten above 10 by now but that’s still abysmal for 3 years into the console’s lifespan.)

I love that you can customize your ps4s theme entirely and make it unique to you, the ps5 on the other hand only lets you see that bland grey background.

The PS5 being larger has a functional reason behind it so I'm not surprised the slim version isn't as tiny as a slim PS2.
It isn't the slim. This is just like when the second gen ps3 came out. The slim came out after that. That's what's happening here.
It's physically not possible to achieve a very slim design with the recommended hardware to deliver the type of power a ps5 would give.

That's what I'm saying 😂
They are trying to convince themselves that they did not regret buying the OG. But I know deep down they want the Slimmer version hahahaa
That would be amazing!
The problem is not in the disk drive, Playstation 2 was a completely different architecture, it’s like trying to run Windows applications on a Mac. You can download it, but that’s about it.

The old ps5 has 2 usb c ports, one the front and one on the back.
you’ll get that on PS5 pro 😂
That's a downgrade to me. Not a single device I have runs on USB-C only. Almost everything runs on either USB-A directly (like USB sticks) or A to other formats, mostly micro-B but also a couple of C. Very few devices run on C to C only, so I don't know what is so great about this "upgrade".
why would you need anything besides usb-c?
@@lyaslabs As I said, all devices I have are USB-A in one end and something else in the other. C to C is still a pretty unusual situation.

If you're a new buyer now, there's almost no reason to get the fat vs the slim, other than maybe worry of the new disc drive connection thing. Otherwise it's the same console with a bigger hard drive, a second usb port in the front, and it's less bulky.
@@SharkWithFreakinLaserBeamthis will be my first ever ps5, does it matter which one I get? And should I get with disc option or no disc?
@@titoniciasg.t.dasilva7115 Slim would be the way to go unless you find the original at a discount. But regarding disc vs digital, it always depends how you're going to use it. I prefer disc because I still sell some new games soon after I finish them. There's also the option of PS4 backwards compatibility on the disc version, and many games automatically run better even when there aren't any patches from the developers.
Stealing this idea I like the clear skeleton look

Me 2 got mine earlier this month couldn’t be happier
Who's here after the ps5 pro reveal?😂
It’s exspensive I ordered a ps5 from Best Buy it’s coming tomorrow
I'm getting the ps5 slim
@@MKPwdd im thinking about it
Finally bought the PS5 after years of waiting and it was the new slim for only $330 from Walmart. Excited for the new slate of games coming in 2025!
After more than 3 years, I was able to scrape some cash together and pick up the PS5 Slim Disk version Spider-Man 2 bundle. No complaints so far. I picked one up in preparation for EA Sports College Football 25 in July.
I just got my slim digital version. It’s starting to get boring need more games
Can’t wait to get it in about 2 or so years.
PS5 Pro will be out by then
If it really takes that long you might want to wait the extra year and get a PS6 lol
@@Force-Multiplier Yeah, this generation according to Xbox leaks is only supposed to be 8 years long.
We're already 3 years in. Waiting another 2 or 3 years means you'll only own your PS5 for 2-3 years before the PS6 releases.
There's already a lot of great PS5 games that have released, there's really no point in waiting to get a PS5 at this point.
@@ThwipThwipBoomMost of those games are cross-gen. PS5 exclusives are few and not that great. Especially compared to 3 years in the previous generation. Faster loading is nice for games that utilize the SSD, but there's still no reason to upgrade unless you're a diehard PS fan. I almost regret upgrading from my PS4 Pro. Almost.

You gotta treat yourself, we’re all going to die one day
@@alexjavier664 I got one and regret nothing! I mean, there's a pretty strong probability we might die one day so why not.
I want to say I’m waiting for the Pro version but I can barely afford Lunchables
I had my Xbox Series X for over 3 years, finally picked up a slim with the disc drive included. It's been awhile since I had touched PlayStation, 2019 with my ol' PS4.
Having owned a day 1 PS5, I've been happy with my big boy. However I might be looking to replace it with the next big boy, the PS5 Pro.
I have a ps3 is it worth the upgrade?😊
100%
The fact that we always watch it after we buy it
I used to, that's how I found the channel but I've gotten into the habit of actually watching BEFORE you buy 😂
Just bought one anyway. Sold my OG one after 3 years of service and a good clean out to my bro. Had every slim.
You hit on a good video idea. Some people will finally get PS’s this holiday. You should do a quick top 10, 15, 20 or whatever games to catch up on if you’re finally getting a PS
Thanks for the video guys. Finally gonna be able to buy one this winter, and I am gonna have to catch up on three years of games haha
There's like 3 games on it that are actually interesting for the console 😅. Demon Souls, Spiderman 2... I'm having trouble thinking of a third 😭
@@KevinNijmeijerghost of Tsushima hits different on ps5
@@KevinNijmeijerwhat about horizon forbidden west, GOW 5, and ratchet and clank rift apart? 🫣
you’re pathetic. I’ve had my PS5 since it’s release in 2020
Kiss ass
Jake, you are one awesome reviewer and everyone at Gameranx is appreciated! The community here is awesome too. We all learn something from one another. I think I might just get this one too. At 64 I'm still a kid at heart. The collector in me. Thanks again Jake!
Since when is $30 refered to as a couple of bucks? The removable disk drive is nice, though. Being able to replace it for $80 is much better than purchasing a new system.
This is coming in tomorrow. So many games I need to catch up on
I'm 3 years behind just ordered a ps5 slim finally getting my hands on one along with God of war never played it on ps4 along with Ragnarok and DMC5 can't wait.
I am just sticking with the series x until they put out the ps5 pro. I’ve always missed the console updates as I was in early usually. Will be nice to come back to the upgrade this time
Watching the video after having already bought the ps5 Slim and waiting delivery 😂
So how does it run is it bad or good did u regret buying slim version
@@albakingztv684 it's perfect, I love it
It must be really dope that yall can run out to the store grab a news ps5 and write it off as a work expense.
Definitely getting a slim. I never get the initial production units anymore. Ever since RRD on Xbox.
It’s the same thing
Essentially Sony reduced the size of the side panels on the new slim version but the main body is pretty much remained the same size... I'll stick with my OG PS5 🤭
So glad I just bought my PS5 a few months ago so Sony could put out a smaller better version and basically tell me to go fug myself. Love it...
I feel your pain brother
Love the Metal Gear Solid 2 shirt! That's all I've been playing since the Master Collection dropped. One of my favorite games of all time!
About the stand thing, Xbox should make a video called: “How to put Series X vertically”, a bit of a backfire to the how to play games on ps4 vid.
@@bri2112. yeah but I can't get around that updating the hard drive bs. I might just get the first one
Is this really the ps5 slim. I have a feeling Sony going to release the actual slim later on
Hey guys, I’ve never had a PS5 and have been really wanting to try spider man, god of war & horizon etc.
I really do think u should buy a ps5
It really is worth it
As for either the slim or the og
Idk really
Get the slim version.
@amoretpax199 I agree, if you are to just now get your first ps5 I would get the slim. Personally, I am waiting for the ps5 pro
OG is on sale now + Black Friday is near . If I were you. I'll buy OG and save money for buying games or PS plus.
I’m one of those people that that still have not got their hands on a ps5 so I’m excited for this. I think I’ll be getting one
I was asking same thing cause I’m on my second fat ps5 console
I think its worth it to get a ps5 even if you only play ps4 games just for the massively improved loading times
@@morsecode980 I wasnt talking about capacity. I meant loading times, which are dramatically improved because of the ssd in the ps5
