Channel: Homestead Heart has a big series of canning videos, including things I've never seen other people can before. She's funny, but also a good teacher.
Thank you for your video. We raise our own meat and veggies. Out of 2-5lb Cornish crosses, 7 c of carrots, 2-15 oz cans of corn, 5 med onions,1 bunch of celery I was able to create 25 pts of soup starter and bone broth from my fresh chickens.
It looks SO GOOD!!! Thank you for showing us “how to”! Hope you all feel better and please thank your daughter for her service - from one military family to another! (We are retired Army and our son and daughter are both currently serving!!)
I have been canning like a mad woman these last few weeks. I LOVE your channel and your wonderful attitude and canning videos. Thank you for your hard work in all these.
This looks really good. And I like the versatility of having quick and easy meals for when you're feeling under the weather or just don't feel like cooking a big meal. Thanks for sharing.
This is the first time I have seen your daughters! You look the same age! How blessed you are personally, with your husband and through them. They are beautiful and I thank your daughter for her service.
Looks yummy!!!! My first time pressure canning was with many 910 AA. I was a nervous wreck also. I finally found someone to come over and teach me. All your canning videos helped me to get there and to understand what I was being taught. Thanks for all you do!
Came across this video today. I've been watching you for almost 2 years. I think I may attempt this one this fall. I am a big soup eater, year round. It's my go-to when I'm just not filling "it". I've started putting more and more complete meals up. This is my third year canning, and I'm self-taught.
Appreciate the emphasis on a basic recipe that can be used in several different ways. Over the years, I've found that I prefer to either can individual items separately or, as you did, work with basic concepts. Planning to adapt your recipe to use with a chicken soup that I make using "McLib's Country Dumplings". (Modified from their recipe!) Since I keep a goodly supply of these noodles, canning up chicken base, as you did, will make for some quick & easy meals. Also like the ability to can both pints and quarts. Usually, the only time I make this is when I'm taking it to a church potluck or family is coming for a visit. (I can't make a small pot of soup...... ) Thanks for sharing. God Bless.
Our daughter went Navy, too! One of the first few Bosun's Mates on USS Abraham Lincoln, in very early 80's! GI Bill took care of her college, and she now owns her own company. Tell your daughter thank you for her service! Looks like delicious soup!
I bought my first All American canner in 1974, and it was stolen in the 90's. I finally bought another All American in 2010. I have used other canners but did not like them. I love my All American and wanted to buy a second one but with the shortage of canning lids I have decided to wait and see if the supply of lids rebounds. So I find I'm doing a lot more dehydrating now instead of canning. I normally can my chicken and broth separate from my vegies but I like your idea of putting them together. Will be harvesting some of my chickens the end of this month so I will be trying this.
I started using almost all TATTLER’s this year. I found the learning curve more difficult than I had imagined. The only time I ever had a TATTLER lid dome up was when I had tightened the ring too tight so that the air could not properly evacuate during the canning process. ❤️🙏❤️. The soup looks super yummy. Thank you so much for sharing
You guys are so amazing. I would love to spend a day canning in the kitchen with you. I really appreciate your channel, you make things easy to understand. I just have to say you have so much light and goodness in you.
I’m going to try this! I stocked up on mason jars and bought a pressure canner and I’m looking forward to learning and canning things other than jams and pickles!
God Bless Your daughter for serving out county! ♥️ I am new to your channel & canning. Your canning skills are amazing! Thank You for all your video’s & keeping it real!
Just made up sixteen pints for us and am so thrilled. I use thighs because right now they're .99 a pound. I have yet to convince my husband to cull chickens. So it's layers for now. I pour off the juices from cooking them into a pot and add the onion and herbs de Provence and lots of salt. The broth was so good. I filled all the jars and had one pint of schmaltz and half gallon of broth left for the next round of just chicken in pints with broth. Then starting bone broth from all the bone, when all is done I should have ten pints of chicken and four gallons of broth, I'm tired just thinking about having to do it. Trying to can everyday and get more things done this month before the harvest really comes in.
I love your channel, you make everything look so easy! I'm new to canning and like you I learn better from watching a video than just reading a recipe from a book. Thank you for what you do and for inspiring me to learn this new skill. A big thank you to your daughter for serving our country 🇺🇸
I had never thought to use my home canned chicken soup for pot pie filling! That is my husbands favorite meal. He smoked chickens for me so now I'm making stock and canning it into soup. My kitchen smells heavenly.
One thing I've learned when using Tattler lids, is that when they come out of the canner, I always tighten them down. then don't touch them at all for 24 hrs. . once that's done, I can remove the rings, and it's very rarely I get a lid that doesn't seal. . I learned the hard way that it works! . . lol. . Congrats on your new stuff to try! One day, I'm going to invest in an All American canner. . the REALLY tall one so I can double stack quarts. . lol. .
In retrospect... this video was quasi pre-Covid. Your instincts were spot on. I like how you layered the ingredients and cooking methods. I would imagine... if you cooked/drained/dehydrated rice or pasta and dry sealed those.... they would be perfect to rehydrate into one of those in about 8 minutes. I make and use my own "minute rice" ...such a time saver. probably one of my most used prepped foods.
I like your comments, and chatter, you have a nice humble attitude which is necessary for us to feel relaxed around, so we can learn and just enjoy, I do better watching the canning instructional video as well, also rather than just reading the recipe. Good luck and God Bless You and your family. BIG investment in the AllAmerican canner, 😁 we’re happy for you, nice to see hubby in the kitchen supporting you in your efforts. Keep up the videos, we like them, ok?
I have my mother-in-law’s All American canner from 1960 that I do all my pressure canning in and I love it! Definitely thinking out another one so I can do a double stack. Thank you for the soup idea.
may i point out that this video dropped on 2/25/20 , it is now 5/5/20 , there are zero dislikes, i feel that is impressive, and i could listen to the both of you speak for days ,
Great idea for some of our chickens in the freezer. I love my American canners yes I have 2 one was not enough. Also my son was in the Navy stationed in San Diego for 5 years and he was on the USS Carl Vinson .. I’ll keep your family in my prayers.
Thank you, headed out to Hawaii on Friday to visit my son serving in the Navy out there. Hopefully Abigail gets stationed some cool like that 🌈. Thank you for your families service and sacrifice.
I am still not comfortable with it after a batch of soup, chicken and broth. Can't even open the lid by myself yet. Time to do some strength training, lol

Looking good woman ❤and I have lots to learn 😊
-knob of butter- carrots peas frozen cut onions- garlic powder Celery seeds- pepper- salt. 10 cups of chicken 8 cups of broth heated up-
I love my all American! Can’t wait to hear how the lids did. I have some but haven’t tried them yet.
We've been reusing lids for a while here and never had problems with them. Unless they're dented or the seal is broken, you can easily reuse them.
I love your glasses! And soups
Great meal plan! I want to try this soon! Thanks!
Enjoy!
