Great comparison. I liked the arrangement of presentation. Points were crisp, language is easier to follow for non tech ppl and video duration is sufficient neither too short nor too long. 👍
Good morning Mark. One small quibble in your otherwise excellent comparison. The base iPhone SE 2020 comes with 64 GB of storage. To match the Pixel 4a’s 128 GB of storage one needs to spend $449 for the iPhone SE 2020 - a significant increase that widens the price comparison in the Pixel 4a’s advantage. Regards. Gene
honestly i was hardcore debating whether to get the se, nord, or 4a. eventually i settled with the SE (i know everyone is going to hate me here) but the battery life and resolution isn’t really that much of an issue for me. i rarely pass 3 hours of screen time each day and my usage is only social media and calling, not gaming and intensive stuff. what i cared more about was support. i had the 6s for the longest time and it is STILL supported on the lastest ios version. with the a13 chip, i have full confidence that it will hold up to the test of time for the years to come (4-6) and that’s why i went with it
I feel like Apple specifically made the SE for owners still using the iPhone 6. I loved my 6 too. I would still be using it today if it wasn't for the terrible battery and final drop.
Exactly. So much focus on features and price but hardly any mention of the incredible apple support updates. I did have a major melt down losing a photo collection but overall very apple product I’ve had rarely misses a beat.
Here in india now that both cost the same though yes, 64gb more space in 4a but app optimization is way better in SE. but yeah i can understand why 4a wins. 🤘
The performance of the A13 Bionic can't be exploited to it's full extent on the SE, because the screen, battery, RAM, and storage just don't compliment it enough, so if anybody is really buying it for a powerful chip will be quite disappointed. The RAM and storage are really a kicker when it comes to multi tasking (which is made worse by the tiny screen) and making use of that camera, so most people will have at least spend that extra 50-100 bucks for the added storage which would make it all the more expensive than the 4a The only point of the higher end chip is that it will be compatible with future updates and would give better longevity (4-5 years compared to pixel's 3-4 years) but that is somewhat undercut given that you would want to switch to a 5G phone in the next 2-3 years anyway. And all of this without mentioning the fact that most daily average usage (like social media, emails etc) the difference in chipset wouldn't amount to much. Edit: even though it supports wireless charging and fast charging you don't get it in the box and you'll have to buy those separately for extra cost (along with the extra you will need to pay for added storage). Also, no headphone jack. So another extra for buying wireless headphone or buying those ugly ass dongles. They make you pay more for accessories and milk you in the name of ecosystem. It's an obvious trap.

Clickbait Pro yes. I’m aware companies offer phones with faster adapters than apple’s. But those phones aren’t as smooth, consistent, and sure as hell won’t last as long as the competing iPhone. I’d like to know which $400 android is glass and metal, has wireless charging, has ip certification, has the best video recording, the best processor, and can match the XRs geekbench score. Let me know which $400 android phone can do that and send me a link to it.
Clickbait Pro u call it overpriced... but yet to send a link... 😂😂😂 our LCD screens are the best in class and perfectly color calibrated. What’s the point of a curved oled when it’s not nearly as consistent nor will it last long as the iPhone? The Samsung has this, the one plus has that, the oppo has the other thing, the latest iPhone has it all. Far more well rounded than the fragmented interface of android. But u wouldn’t understand that because u don’t and have never had an iPhone. The best phones out right now are iPhones. Better screen≠better os and user experiences. But again, u wouldn’t know that because u don’t have an iPhone. Check the bench marks for god sake. There’s no snapdragon chip that can beat even the A12 Bionic in single core benchmark, not factoring in the A13 Bionic, or the upcoming a14 bionic which is 40% more powerful than the a13. Wake up. But again, that’s not something u can fully comprehend because u don’t have an iphone. And “people don’t use those things for $400” isn’t a valid gripe as y miss out on those things simply because u feel your budget can’t support it? I wasn’t talking about the SE reguardless, I’m talking about the XR, which is the #1 best seller on Amazon renewed and has better cost to performance ratio than ANY android. And until u send a link proving me wrong that’s a fact u can’t talk your way out of. “Smooth and consistent” aren’t “off topic” as that greatly impacts the end user experience. A much more “off topic” example would be u referencing the included adapter wattage. I mean come on dude, split hairs much? If a compact form factor, seamlessly constructed of Premium glass and metal water sealed tight is a “crappy design” to u, then ur priorities are all sorts of fucked up. I’d take the best LCD and gestures a phone can offer over a cheap, bottom of the barrel oled panel with shitty color output and even shittier quality control any day. And a glass and metal phone in a plastic case feels MUCH, MUCH MUCH better than a plastic phone in a plastic case. But u wouldn’t know these things, because u don’t have an iPhone. Send the link, btw. I’m still waiting.
One thing for Androids- they don’t get as much update support. He’s reviewing the 2020 iPhone SE, my old 2016 SE is still getting the same new iOS 15 update as my modern iPhone 11. I was really interested in the pixel 4a since it had way more storage and a better screen, but I ended up with the se 2 for $200 with the catch being it had to be activated on a specific service, which I was already on so the $150 in savings was a no-brainer. This video really helped. I was torn between these two phones. But after watching your video I'll go for pixel 4a. After using iphone 7+ for a while I can say the ios atmosphere is overrated. (Except when you're gaming.)
I went for the Pixel 4a after reading and watching many reviews on TH-cam. Most of those reviews talk a lot about how good the camera is but not much else. Well, this phone has a terrible reception and the volume of the ringer is just too low. That plus Google's decision of eliminating the Music Player has made me think about trading it in for something with more substance. Right now I'm back to my old SE and can't see the day when I get rid of the Pixel 41.
Very good and objective review!! I really wanted to buy the 4a, as i am a stock android user my whole life, but i needed urgently a phone and they delayed it so much and dissapointed with the 730 processor. Should have put a 855 in there. The difference will be felt in the next years. Yeah its not a big difference but i prefer no glitches and to do simple tasks as fast as possible. Thats why i bought the Se. It was cheaper for me 300 euro(through mobile operator) and i had to pay 350 for the pixel. Although i really like the screen on the pixel and better camera, my usage is more task related and social media. I am doing a 1.5 -2 hours screen on time per day, so even the battery on se is plenty. Only miss the Oled panel and some + of android, but i get more security and longevity with the Se with its processor and updates. I still have some thoughts to sell it and buy the pixel, but i think it would be the wrong decision based on my usage. Any advice?
It's clear for your use case SE superior. I think speed of the processors creates too much of a difference on day to day use and longevity. I dont use my phone all day so SE is enough for me and slow processor in pixel just creates lags that I cannot accept in a phone above 300euros
@Kato Ist not slow but i saw that it has an occasional lag and overheats when you shoot video for a longer time. The A13 will have longer support as well.

As for SE i guess they have mapped the phone colors along with the Storage. So a 64 GB SE comes in black, Red would be the one with a 128 GB storage while the white one is a 256 Gigs variant. At least that is what i see here on Indian retail portals.....Also, those thick bezels with a too tiny screen, hard to love that setup in 2021 now....

Yes it is cheaper if storage is the only thing that is important to you .... @@jejunamja lol for real mate? I specifically mentioned "as for pricing" to correct that the 4a is more like a $100 cheaper; not $50 cheaper coz 64GB isn't a lot these days. I said "As for pricing". I don't hate either product, and never denied the various features of either phone, and was merely mentioning the price gap. Please don't tell me 350
I put cases on my cell phones plastic, glass, or metal. I also get screen protectors, no one has time to be getting a phone fixed. I liked the colors on the iphone as far as the picture is concerned. How well do both phones function on different apps???
Both are very good devices but the reason why I would go for the SE is purely down to the a13, my a14 is a powerhouse in my 12promax and knowing the a13 is similar, I just don’t think Google’s software alone would give the same smooth experience.
Simply look at versus videos between the two and tell me if the power gap is that big to be turned away by the only weak point (subjectively) of the 4a. Google's optimization made the 730g an amazing chip for everyday tasks but if you play demanding games then go for the iPhone SE but be prepared for a sports car powered phone with the gas tank of an old car.
IP rating matters a lot, especially if you are going to go out shooting videos. But why am I commenting on a such an old review....well because it still matters. More when it comes to discounts!
Depends on how long you will keep your phone as well though, you neglected to mention how long Apple supports their phones for. I hate buying new phone so I choose the cheapest phone that will last me 4+ years. Apple will probably have software updates for 4 years and a further 1 year if security. Not to mention the resale value will just be hands down better for the iPhone SE. I just sold my iPhone 6 which I’ve had for 5 years at a decent price, although an SE won’t have the same resale value it still is an incredibly cheap phone if you go by the formula “phone - resale value divided by number of years kept”
i have the iphone SE, it lasts me an entire day with some battery still remaining. it all goes back to how you use your phone. if you are a light user i dont think battery will be an issue.
Phone snobs must have glass backs. They look great when you put a plastic case on them. Knowing that there's a glass back under that plastic case is soooo reassuring.

Honestly, I'd love to try IOS one day so would love an SE, but I just can't live without google photos. All of the photos I've taken for a span of two years are on there and I've heard how bad IOS photo storage can be.
Love the video of NL. I will be buying the 4a. It is not the absolute best phone but for the price it is as macklemore says " a hell of a deal". The camera itself is one of the best from my research but this is done through amazing software and not the older hardware. Just imagine what google could do if they updated the actual camera hardware. The other downside as mentioned in the video is an older chipset but for any really intensive computing I will use my computer. Also I will take a plastic phone over a glass phone every time.
not always, i would buy pixel in a heartbeat but pixel phone service in my country is more than horrible. so im forced to get iphone se, i wanted a phone that i can keep for 3-5 years and my budget is $400 max
Actually the main selling point of the SE is that it's the last high end regular sized smartphone to be made. Sony haven't made one since 2018 and everyone else switched to only making plus phones and phablets years ago.

Hi, I have 2 questions: 1. Someone who is not after a flagship should go for the SE? I love iPhones, I had a 5s until 2018 (bought refurbished in 2015) and I have no bad word to say about that phone. Simply the best phone I've ever owned. Is the SE reliable? Can I use it without the constant angst that my battery will die when I'll need it the most? 2. If I go for Pixel (which I'm seriously considering, I'm currently comparing OnePlus Nords, Pixel 4a, and iPhone SE 2020), how do I get the same wallpaper and icons as the pixel in this video? The video is great, but I want some users' opinions also. Thank you!
I had the pixel 3a and it was really good until it got updated and it got laggy which is what I guess what will happen to the 4a as it used A lower level processor . If you want to keep a phone a while the SE is better deal.

@@TarunSharma-ro8xk I think it's a matter of personal preference. For me, OP Nord has just 1 useable camera (rest of those are pretty useless in most of the time). I've not used 90Hz as of yet so that feature don't appeal to my need. And I'm used to stock Android experience. Add to that is Google's feature drops and priority updates for 3 years. Just got a Pixel 4a. Wanted something as similar as possible to the OG Pixel I broke, and this is perfect to be honest. The same software, slightly better specs overall, and a more modern display. It's even pretty much identical in terms of size and button layout. Even to the point of my OG pixel case almost fitting the 4a if not for the camera cutout on the back being different.

I wish reviewers would point out that the performance of the two handsets in the moment is of course the same, but with performance overhead in mind for the long run, one will continue to perform better down the road than the other.
Well said brother
@@TheNkkalita Its just so ironic to me that people have a habit of being so hyper focused on the performance of Android handsets, down to the last benchmark digit, in the moment, but they never spark up a conversation about this trend of Android handsets not having respectable fluidity & speed in the long run. Like, its ok to address these things. That's how they get tackled.
@@anthonybrazzle yeah right, been using Android since 2014, but haven't seen a super stable os in Android space since date, always has one or another bug, and it annoys at the most important time.even with many many custom ROMs and kernels I've tried.
The key point is one wants just a stable device that does all the things correctly and we have to spend less time on fixing anything for long run
@@TheNkkalita Yes, I absolutely agree. As hard as other Android users would probably push against this notion, I REALLY wish Google would adopt a "Set It In Stone, And MAKE SURE TO SET IT IN STONE AS PERFECTLY AS POSSIBLE" attitude, much like (dare I said it) Apple 🤷🏾♂️ it would even be nice if they could adopt their knack for attention to small details, but whether they'll do that at any point in time is neither here nor there.

Regards. Gene
Yep, true!
honestly i was hardcore debating whether to get the se, nord, or 4a. eventually i settled with the SE (i know everyone is going to hate me here) but the battery life and resolution isn’t really that much of an issue for me. i rarely pass 3 hours of screen time each day and my usage is only social media and calling, not gaming and intensive stuff. what i cared more about was support. i had the 6s for the longest time and it is STILL supported on the lastest ios version. with the a13 chip, i have full confidence that it will hold up to the test of time for the years to come (4-6) and that’s why i went with it
Any reason why you didn’t go for the Xr or 11
@@aarushlal3702 im a college student and poor LOL
The RAM and storage are really a kicker when it comes to multi tasking (which is made worse by the tiny screen) and making use of that camera, so most people will have at least spend that extra 50-100 bucks for the added storage which would make it all the more expensive than the 4a
The only point of the higher end chip is that it will be compatible with future updates and would give better longevity (4-5 years compared to pixel's 3-4 years) but that is somewhat undercut given that you would want to switch to a 5G phone in the next 2-3 years anyway.
@Sshsh HHshsh not sure where you live, but here we are starting to rollout 5G. And that is the case for large parts of Europe.
5G won’t be mainstream for another 5 years or so, I agree. I live 15min from NYC and if they don’t have 5G, you know it’s gonna be awhile lol
@@ZkyHi 5 years is a bit of a stretch, 2 or may be 3 years is a better time frame at least in Europe, may be it's not the case for North America.
Anyway you really don't want to hang on to such an outdated phone for another 5 years unless you are really struggling to find alternatives (which isn't really a problem in Europe and Asia)
ashlinmario sequeira I think it’s different in Europe. In the US we’ve got every cell company saying they offer 5G but the only places I’ve seen it work are in Atlanta and LA

Javed Alikhan the Nord isn’t available in the states. If u want to watch a foreign comparison you’re not on ur right channel...
Clickbait Pro if the included adapter wattage is the only thing u have to argue with, you’ve already lost.

Concise , precise review.

Simply look at versus videos between the two and tell me if the power gap is that big to be turned away by the only weak point (subjectively) of the 4a.

Most of the android users in these comments are foreigners who 1 lack access to iPhones and 2 live in a region where iPhones are rare. They have a preset bias towards Apple and will disregard better performance in favor of screen resolution as that’s all they know. They are blind to the benefits of iPhones as the more consistent interface as they’ve never experienced it first hand. 83% of young adults in the states use iPhones, which explains y the XR and 11 were the 2 consecutive best selling phones of 2018-19. It’s just that most iPhone users don’t watch these videos because they are fully aware of what theIr iPhones offer, they know it’s smooth and reliable. Only the savviest iPhone users have had their experience with both and can actually attest to what they witness. iOS is simply the fluid more consistent os no matter u look at it.
@@bigredii2253 I live in Europe. IPhones are mainly used here by people who prefer a more controlled experience. iMessage is not used, airdrop is barely used. Plus iPhones have a big markup in price here as well. I am an Android user, who helps my mom with her iPhone constantly. I just plainly don't like IOS an I don't like Apple's anti-consumer practices.
And don't overgeneralize. For most people, both camps of phones offer enough performance to not slow down in 3-4 years guaranteed. Some people just want to spend the minimum on their phone. Almost no one needs the full performance of an Apple CPU. So a mid-range chip is perfectly suitable. Consider what the other side says as well.

Aleksandr Trohhatsov Most of the android users in these comments are foreigners who 1 lack access to iPhones and 2 live in a region where iPhones are rare. They have a preset bias towards Apple and will disregard better performance in favor of screen resolution as that’s all they know. They are blind to the benefits of iPhones as the more consistent interface as they’ve never experienced it first hand.
@@bigredii2253 are you literally copy pasting stuff?)
I used to love android but once I got my iPhone se I never looked back👌🏾
What’s the biggest (most important) difference for you?
@@daryl14rabe software updates , security , faster performance etc
Can I ask what's your icon pack for pixel phone? Hahaha thanks! 😁
Great video, could someone tell which icon pack is he using in the pixel?
Thanks in advance
What theme are you using at 2:05 for the pixel 4a? It looks amazing.
Thanks! It's Nova Launcher in combination with the Crayon icon pack and some random wallpaper I found on Zedge.
How in the world did you get such good screen on time on the 4a? On mine I could only get 5 hours if I was lucky. And one huge thing noticeable on the 4a too is how dim the brightness was compared to the SE.
One thing you forgot to mention: the Pixel 4a comes with 128GB, while the base iPhone SE has 64GB. This gives the Pixel much more storage, and if you want a 128GB iPhone SE, you have to pay an extra 50 dollars, which draws away from the appeal of a $400 dollar iPhone.
Pixel 3a user here. If you are looking for advices, Pixel phones seem to put user experiences and value for money at it center rather than spec numbers.
"The se is the winner when it comes to stabilization" you have to enable stabilization in the pixels camera app and it's just flawless
no 60 fps tho
Yep, it seems people are overlooking this.
Once again even though I don’t own either of these phones I still greatly enjoyed the video. Not being technically knowledgeable I gain a lot of information and know how from watching these. Very detailed and quite enjoyable to watch. you have a friend in Columbus Ohio
Really love your reviews man ❤️ Keep going! 💪
Main problems of se: display and battery
Can't compromise these two. Specially battery.
honestly i would not recommend the iphone to anyone that plans on actually using their phone. with that batterylife, you'll be stuck to the wall charger at all times or carry some battery packs with you.
Yep, plus the display is trash. This is like comparing a phone from 2015 to 2020. Google wins this one for sure.
How did u changed the icons in Pixel?? Please share . Thanks.
Been waiting for this comparison. And I love your videos. Keep up the good work. 🔥🔥🔥
Had the og pixel. It was good for 1.5 years then performance went downhill. Battery life fell off. I pushed forward with it until they stopped doing security updates at year three. I switched to an iPhone 6s at that point because even though it was a year older then my pixel apple still kept it updated and while battery sucked the performance was better then the pixel. I just a couple weeks ago got the se because it’s the true budget phone. With the a13 chip I’ll still be using this phone 5 years from now.
After using the 4a for a few months I can say without a doubt you notice the lack of power. It is slow.
