LZ 1 - Side 2, LZ II - Side 1, LZ III - Side 2, LZ IV - Side 2, HOTH - Side 1, PG - Side 3, Presence - Side 1, ITTOD - Side 1.
I thought we were going to be eight for eight in disagreeing, but then we ended up being on the same page with the last two. Zep one, like you, How Many More Times is my favorite song on the album. Add in the fact that You Shook Me is maybe my least favorite Led Zeppelin song and it's a no brainer, side two. Zep two was neck and neck, but I like the flow of side two, the sense of spontaneity, so it's the winner for me. III, again side two. Hey, Hey, What Can I Do or Poor Tom instead of Hats Off would have put it over the top, but it still gets the nod by a hair. With IV, I know this is sacrilege, but Stairway to Heaven is my least favorite track on the record. I admire it more than I love it, in other words I can appreciate its greatness, and it has moments of true sublimity, but overall it tends to keep me at arm's length somewhat, whereas you really can't argue with the closing one two punch of Goin' to California and When the Levee Breaks, my all time favorite Led Zeppelin song. Plus Four Sticks is one of their most underrated tracks. So again, side two. Houses is a virtual tie but again I'm going with side two, mostly because No Quarter is my favorite song on the album. Same for Physical Graffiti, my favorite Zep album, because of Trampled Underfoot and Kashmir, both in my top five Zeppelin tracks. We're in agreement for the last two, side one for that overlooked masterpiece Presence, my only side one winner, and two for In Through the Out Door. Also a big fan of I'm Gonna Crawl. Great video, Larry!

Gotta take Carouselambra for what it is. A tasty jam session. I found it refreshing over the 3 minute singles from the first couple of albums. I definitely agree on alot of your side choices, Larry!

Presence: side 1 (side 2 comes close but Achille's last stand is hard to beat)

Houses: hard to choose. It’s my favorite. I’ll go with side 2 since side 1 has The Crunge which I don’t like. Although, it’s hard to go against The Rain Song and Over the Hills.

This was really hard because often outstanding songs were on sides with mediocre songs. I agree with Side 2 of In Through The Out Door. I think I'm Gonna Crawl is the most Zeppelin sounding song on that album. For Physical Graffiti I'd have to go with side 3 because of In the Light and Ten Years Gone. Houses of the Holy I'd have to go with Side 1 because of the Rain Song. The rest are too hard to decide.

Side 1 every album, except: PG (side 2 is best, but it is whisker close battle to side 1), and ITTOD (close, but side 2 is better IMO). Cool video. Interesting how they made the BIG STATEMENT on side 1 of most albums, but were more experimental on side 2. Obviously, they want to draw you in, and get your attention.

Honestly, for III, IV and Houses both sides are equal and they are my three favourite Zeppelin albums. Sides 1 and 2 are also tied for Physical Graffiti but I will never understand the love for the album as a whole - it’s like an album plus bonus tracks…. well, I suppose that’s what it is. Two albums would have been better, but millions and time would prove me wrong… but that’s how I feel.
In almost all these cases, I'll take side 1 although side 4 of Physical Graffiti is real close. LZ 4 and Houses of the Holy are too good all the way through to pick a side. And I definitely think "Hey Hey What Can I Do" should've been included somewhere on LZ 4 instead of being relegated to the B side of the "Immigrant Song" single.
Edit - I mean LZ 3 for "Hey Hey," etc.
